By the end of the bout, he was punched out
Fists capsized, muscles shouting
Deeper down
He felt the insult of a kiss

Deeper still than we can go
Further out than triremes row
Drowning slow
His memories persist

Out beyond the telescope's pry
Up above the tallest Dutch dope high
He realized
This mystery is his

Underneath the ocean floor
A part of who we are we don't explore
I adore the meaninglessness of the this
We can't express

By the end of the bout, he was punched out
Fists capsized, muscles shouting
Deeper down
He felt the comfort of a kiss

I like Wilco a lot, but Jeff Tweedy's voice is nothing like the lead The National - Fake Empire Matt Berninger's deep, incredible voice, so following up on him forces an emphasis on Jeff's voice sounding very weak.  Not the best segue unless to make Wilco sound not so good.

You're confusing the nuances of Tweedy's voice with weakness.  Others might confuse the monotone nature of Beninger's vocal delivery with boredom.   One man's...

Ooooooh!

These guys and their earlier band (Tupelo) were once a powerhouse of a R n R band. Born in the town of Belleville, IL...home to Stag Beer and full of midwest heartbreak and goofiness.

How about some of the earlier stuff?

I love the sense of drama in this song. Aurally rich and tender. Yum!
Very nice

You say it like it's a bad thing!   I at first thought it was Andrew Bird.  I like it.

sounds like Wilco and Radiohead

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is the most amazing album this band has ever made, and everything they do must measured against that.  I remember dancing around the room putting my first baby boy asleep to Jesus, Etc.  He slept soundly.

Just love this, and Summerteeth, but actually all of them. And they are my homies!

I actually like Being There a little bit better than A.M. And Kicking Television is an excellent live compilation as well..

Love Echo...abhor Wilco...

London slang: to 'get the hump' is to be annoyed/pissed off/grumpy/sulky. As in 'I told him to do the washing-up and now he's got the hump' (or 'ump as Londoners say as h's are often dropped).

Answer: Droll enough to be Wilco.

Also acceptable: meh, eh, uhh and nah.

Like a long string of song endings strung together. Just wierd.{#Confused}

I could never get my wife or kids to listen to Wilco.  My wife called it "nails on a chalk board", which is also her standard comment for Neil Young.  Then I put Jesus, Etc., Either Way & Impossible Germany (and some Neil Young Harvest Moon cuts) on a sleep playlist that my kids listen too at night in bed.  Now their all big fans.  My daughter's favorite is Jesus, Etc.  My son's is Impossible Germany.  I can't pick a favorite Wilco song, but I think Sky Blue Sky is my favorite record.  They are truly amazing live.

I would have to agree. That's my favorite as well. Although I have to say that it came out at a pretty difficult time my life and listening to it really helped me keep my sanity.

However, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is probably the better album/cd per se when the personal associations I have with SBS are removed. Being there, which has been mentioned is very good too, as is Summerteeth. You can't go wrong with any of those (and the live album Kicking Television is worth checking out too).

They have one hell of a strong catalog! I really like this song, it reminds me of songs on Sky Blue Sky or A Ghost is Born. {#Music}

CBC radio's arts and pop culture magazine program 'Q', named this Wilco disc the top album of 2009.

Cline's meandering whirly sounds evoke Hackett circa Foxtrot (not Y.H.)

Very nuggy

That pretty much sums it up for me as well.  Thanks for saving me key strokes.

I second that. My English is not very good, so I generally listen to music only; from that point of view I can say that Sky Blue Sky for me is a lot more interesting than others. Last one was a bit of disappointment, I still can't love it...

Being There was my first Wilco album and remains my favorite.  Although all the others but the latest are a close second.

Wilco's stuff is very inconsistent.  Some of it makes me cringe like an elementary school talent show.  Some of it rocks.  This is nearer the former.

That's what makes Tweedy so great...the ability to move seemlessly from the acoustic, melodic to the dissonant, disjointed hard-edged and back and forth....one great song after another...all in one cd.

They rocked the house at the Wiltern last month...WILCO (in their current form) is THE best band in the world today!

This has kind of a retro feel to it but can't decide if I really like it as yet.....

Not happy about this yet. I'm worried about the quality of Wilco releases after A Ghost Is Born.

I'll open with a 6, but I bet it'll go higher.

I am convinced that sooner or later these guys are going to achieve the kind of success they deserve.

June 30th is the release date.  In the mean time, you can pre-order and listen to the whole record here:

I can't wait either - I love Wilco - one of first bands that RP introduced me to. They always put me in a good mood. Saw them live at the Florida Theatre (beautiful venue) in Jacksonville a few years ago and would gladly pay to see them again.
