I like Jane's Addiction's cover better, but this one is just fine.

So we disagree with you. That's means we live in 'little boxes'? And WE'RE the closed-minded ones?!

Think before you type, dude.
I agree with some posters that this is a lonnnngggg jam, but I just happen to really like it. Must be awesome live.

Okay. 7 turned to 5, because endlessness has it's limits too...

Unsurprisingly, I disagree with you —- I think the jam band genre is underrepresented on RP and although I'm not a big Phish Phan (ahem) this is getting it done for me this morning.

Yeah, haven't had time to post much these days - I'll bet you didn't even miss me. . .

Wow sounds like armed robbery was perpetrated upon the Phish Phans in Hampton.  Lets see, $1.2 million at about $500/joint (Law enforcement standard overestimation) still amounts to quite a bit of contraband.  But only $68,000 was confiscated from 75,000 fans.  Thats less than $1/head.  I'm pretty sure our brave policemen managed to collect at least $10/head.  That leaves only $682,000 unaccounted for.  $682,000/200 officers is about  $3,410/officer.  When combined with the resale of confiscated drugs, and they overtime pay for working the show, these guys had a pretty good weekend.   treatment_bound wrote:

Police seize more than $1 million in drugs from Phish fans

3/10/09—HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Some Phish fans are leaving Hampton a little lighter than when they arrived for the band's weekend reunion.

Police said Monday they confiscated about $1.2 million in illegal drugs and more than $68,000 in cash from concertgoers. Authorities also arrested 194 Phish fans during the three-night celebration of the band's return to the stage after a nearly five-year absence.

Most of the arrests were for drug possession, use and distribution, police said.

Tourism officials had estimated 75,000 fans would be coming to the coastal Virginia city. Nearly 200 law enforcement officers worked the weekend event, with the Vermont-based band picking up the tab.

This is a terrific jam by one of my favorite bands - I've seen them close to 100 times - but this jam is NOT ideal for RP at all.  It is way to free-form and experimental, and it frankly misses the mark.  There are other Phish jams that would make way more sense... or just fade this one out after the actual song.

I feel it's especially unfortunate because playing a jam like this when most listeners are on RP for more "finished" music understandably turns people off from this great band.

I don't care for Lou Reed or the original version of this track, but Phish's jam is quite nice. And I can tolerate the singing much more than I ever could LR and the VG. And if it were up to me, I'd fade Phish in AFTER the vocals.

Understand that I also like the Dead's Dark Star and many of their other extended jams, so there you have it.

There's more nostalgia in this than talent.
Jerry's Kids.
Oh FFS, hurry up and finish! There have been a good few cadences which made me think that at least this interminable jam had come to an end, but no, they fooled me, and the damn thing just kept going and going and going. A bit like mountain climbing and false summits. This was a passable 4 for the first, ooh I dunno, 5 minutes, but it's really outstaying its welcome.
OMG make it end. Enough all ready.

Outstanding.
Always enjoyed The Velvets and Lou Reed. What I dont understand...Why does it say "Phish" as the artist?{#Innocent}
  {#Bananapiano}   {#Bananajam}{#Bananajam} {#Drummer}       ...AND IT WAS ALRIGHT...

I prefer Mitch Ryder's version, although this one has its merits.
Nice!!!!  The Hampton Shows were sick!!! {#Dancingbanana}{#Bananajam}{#Drummer}{#Bananapiano}

A nice treat to hear something from the current tour! Phish always choose good covers...

you lost me.
@treatment_bound

so glad law enforcement is protecting people from themselves rather than dealing with real crimes
oh wait... stoned ass hippies don't shoot back like crack heads and meth cookers do

Nice! Thanks, B & R.
These guys are the best rock group alive and touring right now. Hands down.{#Bananajam}{#Drummer}{#Bananapiano}={#Dancingbanana}

LONG LIVE PHISH!!

Europe next spring?

Great show! Great song. I was there this weekend. Thanks for playing this.
{#Good-vibes}

A personal favorite.  Love the extended performance.
all you closed minded fools - get back in the little boxes that you live in...  this jam was very nice.
I'm a long time Phish fan.  Been all over the country and a little bit of Europe seeing these guys play live.  They have NEVER sounded better than they did at Hampton 2009 and I'm blown away Bill would feature a live track from one of the 3 shows so soon and at all really.  All 3 shows are available as free downloads at www.livephish.com  Check them out.  There's magic there...
I just love how this bunch of metally challenged idiots of very questionable sexual orientation post up comments before the song is even done being played.
Here's a clue: GTFO .

why is this still going? I can't go any lower than a 1
I like phish, but their extended jam sessions sometimes get to me...
They stopped singing........move 1 to a 4

Good jam!
Is someone choking a cat?

Wow, this is long enough for 2 1's
I don't know... Never much liked Lou Reed's "singing", but it fit the song. Somehow trying to sing in tune misses the point, doesn't it? That said, I am liking the instrumentals better as I hear it. Maybe I should avoid jumping to conclusions?
I personally like this cover...
should have stayed "retired"... oh, yeah Trey had to pay for his drug charge defense... that's it.

More live music!!!!   9
Pretty anemic version of a great song, but I've heard worse. (Trying not to think of the Marky Mark cover of "Walk On the Wild Side"; uh-oh, too late).
Please just play the original. Phish is just a bunch of hippie wannabes. {#Puke}

yes, first-view, liked, their musical improvisation, extended jam sessions, exploration of music between genres

** 6 / 7 **

Although it's pretty cool that Bill's got a song from this past Saturday's show on here already. Sound quality's pretty good too.
Damn it, I knew I knew this riff from somewhere....
