He's a man in his glory a boy in his dreams
And he's living his life in between
Tomorrow will answer yesterdays Dreams
While today he is living in between

Beware oh brother beware don't you listen to the words
(The tender lies)
Beware oh brother beware don't you listen to the words

He rejoices in wedlock with a lover unseen
And he's living his life in between
He thinks of the sorrow his conscience will bring
And he's living his life in between

Beware oh brother beware don't you listen to the words
The tender lies
Beware oh brother beware don't you listen to the words

He measures his wisdom from sorrow he leaves
He's living his life in between
The pathway to glory is a long road it seems
And he's living his life in between

Beware oh brother beware don't you listen to the words
(The tender lies)
Beware oh brother beware don't you listen to the words

Oh, if only Loggins would stay quiet and let the musician - Messina - play to his heart’s content (and mine too).

Hippies forever
Interesting.  I'd never have guessed Loggins and Messina.  A decent 7.
Make it STOP!
I'm not religious but if there is a hell I'm sure this is getting played there at least once a day.
You got it...a good jam!
Argonauts between Scylla and Charybdis.
Good jam.
Spank that compressed Tele  !!!
Been a longtime listener and I've never seen 10 songs in a row with ratings less than 7 and 13 of the last 14............{#Ask}
Is this from the danger zone?  I'd heard of them but had no idea what sort of music they were offering.
Pathway to boring.
Sweet.... haven't heard this in a long time.  Too long!
Good music like this should be played no matter the era or how deep the track is on the album. Keep up the good work RP
There was a log of good music on this album.
THANKS BILL......... SWEET don't listen to the haters ... WE LOVE IT!!!  THANKS L&M ARE AWESOME... Glad I caught the 30 day play...

These two were hugely popular in 74, 75 and I don't have an explanation why? I wasn't even smoking dope then.

Sorry, mining this from the early 70's doesn't enhance RP's cred.  Let it go...

Disagree; I don't think Bill's too concerned about what's "cool".
He just plays an incredibly varied assortment of music, including the odd curve ball like this.
It's the eclectic mix that brings me back.

I think it was a very cool jam and can't remember hearing this more than a few times ever. I guess Foot would rather hear only the most popular tracks per album? What a drag. Keep up the mining Bill ;^ )

This song is awesome. It's going on my next collection of lost gems. I saw them in Reading, PA in the early 70s and like the other old fan was surprised by how rockin' and complex their live sound was.

Saw them around the same time.  Awesome show.  Mike Hamilton was playing with them then.  Amazing.

Very much not my cup of tea.
Passable, though the heavy voice vibrato nails this on in its period. Overstays its welcome, though - as Joe Strummer would have said, f*ckin' long, innit?
Nearly unlistenable, completely laughable. One can only guess at how wasted they were when they wrote or performed this. Wow.
Played 10 times and I missed all of them !{#Cry}

In the early '70s, my girlfriend at the time loved Loggins and Messina, mostly the cutesy, folksy stuff they did.  So I took her to see them one night at the Capital Theatre in Passaic, NJ.  I will NEVER forget that show. I expected to hear 2 hours of cutesy soft rock/folk.  What I ended up experiencing was 3 hours of some of the most ass-kickin' rock I'd ever heard!  Vahevela must have gone on for a 1/2 hour of improvisation.  It was a stoners paradise for sure.  I have since been an avid Loggins and Messina fan, and even had the pleasure of seeing them on their reunion tour in Melbourne, FL a few years back.  They still kick ass.

Pathway to Glory has always been one of my favorite tracks by them, although I've never had the pleasure of hearing them do this live.  Maybe one day...

I thought the same thing, till I saw them in 77 when they were touring with Fleetwood Mac on thier Rumurs tour.
They were quite good.

Good post... I too think they're under-appreciated. Hearing the live version of Angry Eyes gives me a good idea what you experienced. BTW, some silly spoofage of these guys is available on Yacht Rock on the Youtubes.

I have a new name for my husband's playlist.
Good tune.  I just have no idea how this could be rated 5.7.
Not too bad - it's a long way from "My Music" and "Your Momma Don't Dance" so it gets a few points for that.

Gotta be a 9 just for the memories/time/place
This song would be tolerable if they dropped the vocals.
It's just painful.
When Reagan was in office, Captain and Tennille actually performed Muskrat Love at the White House for Queen Elizabeth.  Pretty sad — for Queen Elizabeth.

"Muskrat Love": quite possibly the most evil, soul-sucking piece of pop ever created. Just...cannot describe the awfulness.

This L&M song went on a bit too long, but it's interesting to hear something more of the group than the known hits. I always get them confused with Seals and Croft, so what do I know...

The live version of Angry Eyes, for sure!

Angry Eyes - a nice tune, that one!

WAH! NOOOO! It's Loggins and Messina! Quick! Hit the mute before it gets stuck in my head!

Why do I remember things like this so easily, and not Spanish verbs?

I always thought L&M were pretty sappy. Reminds me of a college roommate, sometime girlfriend who listened a lot to this and to things like Muskrat Love. But the album cover is pretty funny, very '70s.

Wow, what an odd piece. Never was a big fan of L & M. Geez, there's bits of talent and improvisation in here.
I used to be a fan 25+ years ago, but this track does nothing for me. I didn't find the instrumental changes noteworthy at all. Rather, the whole thing just dragged.
Pleasantly surprised to hear this song come up. Thanks Bill.
These guys absolutel do not belong on this playlist!  How do I enter a number below 1?
Ok, first time I've ever heard this... remember the scene in the movie Spinal Tap when they started out as folk singers... Not to take anything away from Loggins & Messina, but seriously.

If not yacht, schooner or later, yawl.

Okay, this is the first time I've ever heard this song on the airwaves. It's always gripped me with its smooth transitions from one instrument to the other across the solos. Then Messina's plucky guitar solo to wrap it up. Regardless of how you feel about Loggins & Messina, this is definitely a cool tune in its craftsmanship.

Interesting music - 6 or maybe a 7

When the sing though... three letters come to mind... WTF??

This cover is... stunning :)

Keep it up, Bill.

The live version.

These guys made some great music and put on a great live show until for some reason they feel off the boat. I saw them in Montreal in the 70's and the band was great, lots of extended jamming and Messina's guitar playing was fantastic.
Awesome!

ha ha! looks like somebody in the control booth's got a sense of humor!

wait... this IS a joke isn't it?

come on... it's GOT to be, right?
This is nice... House at Pooh Corner anyone?
Talk about probing the deep dark recesses of my memory. Thanks for taking me on the way back machine!{#Clap}
Yay, "Yacht Rock"! LOL{#Cheers}
Wow, I had no idea they made such cool music.  I never would have heard it if not for RP. Thanks Bill.
A great song from a great album.
Jon Clarke's woodwinds were exceptional.  Great way to end a Sunday afternoon.

Interesting, this must have been the first play for this tune on RP. I'd never heard it before, and was sitting and listening thinking it sounded like a pretty cool throwback tune. Thanks for digging it up Bill!
Hmmm...

  The song goes on for a long time, and just starts to get more and more interesting.

     1 to a 3 for me.

 But then they start to sing again.  3 to 2.
Lots of good memories from this album.
Not my favorite from it.
But as mandolin said... "just for being played"... thanks Bill.

I love early Kenny and Jim, I almost forgot how good this stuff is. I will be adding this to my library soon. Thanks Bill and Rebecca for the push....{#Smile}

You never cease to amaze me, Bill! {#Eek}

Hey — has anybody else here seen Ed Wood?  Just where is Tim Burton (or even Danny Elfman) when you need him?

(Sorry.)

This song has not weathered the passage of time very well in my opinion.

Just wrong.

...huh!..
Wow.
