I have no idea what she's singing but it seems like a sweet little song.

oh it's growing on me...

Laura is really quite lovely in concert.

Laura Marling is better
Well this is the first Ho-Hum rating I've given... that's because it IS Ho-Hum. Blah.

This isn't doing much for me. Maybe it's just this song. The artist is on a small label out of Portland Oregon and there is a band from Portland Oregon called Charmparticles that I like quite a bit. Bill, you should check them out.

What song plays at the beginning of this song? I seem to recall a music box I had a long time ago playing this but not sure what song it is - it's kind of creepy.

It's from Dr. Zhivago, I think.

Nope.

It is the theme to the movie Love Story, with Ryan O'Neill.

It was in a music box my grandda gave to my grandma.

"Where do you begin to tell the story of how great a love can be..."

Don't forget Ali McGraw as the dying young wife.

Would be nice if I was recovering from the flu and did not want loud noise or bright light around me . . . perhaps?

I am recovering from the flu and this is just not cutting it for me—especially the singing.

Indistinguishable from any number of other similar voices/styles.  The more derivative it gets the more boring and less likable. 5

Like the instrumentation much better than the singing.

hmm, regina spektor sans piano. maybe?
I like this, but as mentioned below the coffeehouse waif singing technique is getting kind of stale,.

Laura Gibson was the exceptional opening act at a show I attended; she entranced the crowd (myself included), just singing and playing her guitar.  I bought her album afterward and have been pleased with the decision.  Thanks, Bill!

The same exact thing happened when I saw her open for Colin Melloy last April! She had the crowd in a frozen silence of goodness... very cool.

Lovely, but not terribly interesting. I think this sort of song has been done enough already. There are scads of other softly lilting female vocalists.
Pleasant surprise :)

a thing that enhances is simplicity, and this is good, later the way to touch the guitar, and this is good, the register of the voice, well is here that some questions are arisen; in a word it "promises";  but necessary to hear its work more than, to define an correct appreciation.
