When all of this makes the news
Will they remember to tell it right
Or will devils make off in the night
Can you tell me why a god so high has us fight

As she lays in bed in her piece of ground
Will they remember her blessed soul
Or just that she lost all control
Can you tell me why she had to die alone

People wake up
People get moving
There's a life waiting here
Wake up
People stop doing
There's a life waiting here

When all our time is spent away
Will we remember the loves of our past
Or just that love never lasts
Can you tell me why
This little life
Goes so fast...

I Agree, completely!  GREAT TUNE!!

So much string noise!
NICE! Great voice! I never heard of her, prior to RP. Now I like several of her tunes. Thank You RP!
I saw her at a tiny venue in Southwark a few years ago - she's a great performer, and much more cheerful and funny than you might think from this song.  I would recommend checking out more of her stuff.
She sounds like Ray Lamontagne.
An underrated singer/songwriter. Always interesting lyrics from a woman's point of view, and interesting melodies. Especially like her 2011 album Chesapeake; great stuff.
Going to break my PSD button if you keep spinning yawners like this. Seems it's just been one after another today. Get out of your funk man!

Again, it has been too long.  Wow, intense.  Thank you.
I thought this was Adele.

Love it when a "downer" song has a exortation to get with it ....And people wake up People get movin Theres a life waitin here Get up People start doin Theres a life waitin here
still very cool...  still love it...
Thank you RP for this; like before, I've been waiting for ages to hear this again.
What did I miss...."Parental Advisory?"
Wow what a voice ......{#Daisy}.....nice
I like how this makes me think of Tom Waits' stylings in many parts...makes me want to dig out "Alice" and play it after this; it's so cool...
This is really cool, haven't heard it before.
Bump... 7 > 8 ... I've been waiting to hear this for quite a while.  Thanks RP.
3..2..1...PSD

edit: scored some Sufjan, "Chicago"..thank you, PSD!

Her and Ray LaMontagne have to get together and do a CD together. They could call it "Pass the Sucrets, please".
Just kidding, just kidding. Actually I like her.

"Sucrets" - I haven't thought of those in years!

I like Rachael, but not this song.

Spill !  I have yet to hear a song of RY I don't like.  relax......it's radio

Just as we know a chick flick when we see one, there are just some artists that only appeal to men.  It is what it is.
To me, this song is like nails on a chalk board.
I like Rachael, but not this song.
I could SO do her! Wait! No I couldn't...she wouldn't want me! But...it DOES sound like she's singing directly to me. I love that!{#Beat}
Makes me STOP and listen. Song and words are BEAUTIFUL
Appropriately, an imploring song of lament and wist to close out a year of lament and wist.  Rachael's rich and heartfelt voice, music and lyrics really are appropriate for this somewhat gloomy New Year's Day here, where I am.  May we all make this and every new year better than the last....

Her lyrics for "Little Life:"

"When all of this makes the news
Will they remember to tell it right
Or will devils make off in the night
Can you tell me why I got so high as I was flying?

As she lays in bed in her piece of ground
Will they remember her blessed soul
Or just that she lost all control
Can you tell me me why she had to die alone?

And people wake up, people get moving
There's a life waiting here
Get up, people start doing
There's a life waiting here

When all our time spent away
We remember the loves of our past
Or just that love never lasts
Can you tell me why this little life goes so fast?"

That's funny. I've always been across the room when this song came on and just assumed it was Ray.

Just now noticed it's the Yam.

She has a duet with Ray on this record. BTW.

Incendiary!
Like her sound, want to hear more of her.

torch song

a popular song concerned with unhappiness or failure in love.

As a matter of fact she easily looks as Japanese as other "half" Japanese do! Believe me, I've seen her up real close like 2 feet away after the show. She's very small, unasuming and friendly and keeps up a good bourbon lubricated conversational raport with the audience between songs...in a small venue!

Whatever happened with Fiona Apple by the way?
I've posted the same exact questions on RP with no response. It's a mystery I guess.

Why are so many female singers belting out these rich, dark, haunting torch songs -and the boys are warbling out so many whiney ditties in weak falsettos?

This is a fantastic song.
Ooo And ejsamuel, I just saw your comment, that was a great mix from a couple weeks ago i think, but the single song, this one...is amazing as hell, more and more
i love this womans voice!

WOW. What a great mixover from Verve's Billie Holiday to this.
Rachael's voice is raspy, deep, sexy and vulnerable. Just a great haunting voice with very little acoustic 'enhancement'....i LOVE her 'confession and her 'thought'...very moving....

Easy on the contrast SuzenJuel!!! {#Cool}

Child of a broken family shuttling between mom in NYC and dad in No. Va. I give her credit, but not for this song.

{#High-five}  spooky...I was going to write the exact same thing!!!

I like a couple of tracks off of this release. This isn't one of them. Thanks for playing, though.

That's what I was thinking, especially in the verse parts. It sounds like that terribly off-key RL song that often plays here.
But then the chorus swoops in, and I suddenly begin enjoying instead of cringing. Although, frankly, it still doesn't make up for the rest of the song.

Is Yamagata Japanese?  If so, is her husband Japanese or, maybe, is she adopted?  She doesn't look Asian, let alone Japanese.
Love her.  Raw honesty.
OK, this is a joke - you guys are trying to get me to think that this song sucking is only in my head, right?  You almost fooled me.  Now, where did I leave those meds.
...god, she's amazing...

Oh dang, I get up to goto the restroom and miss the first part of a new song for RP.
Well I like the sound halfway through lol.

From her new album — very long-anticipated by fans like me.

Check out her first album too for some phenomenal tunes.
Sublime.
