Once you were a straight shot, a shiny quarter in a new slot,
Night would keep the dreams that you got for afternoon.

Then telling the truth got so hard, we were dancing in the backyard,
Once I knew the end and the start, but now that's through.

Now you're broken and you don't understand
What is broken falls into place once again.
Hand of kindness, come and gather me in like a rainstorm,
Again and again and again.

Well morning comes to clean up like nothing happened when your heart stopped,
Like all the lawyers calling all cops to wave days through.

So close your eyes for this long, something's mixed up and something's gone,
Only fingers can you count on, and one leaves two.

Now you're broken and you don't understand
What is broken falls into place once again.
Hand of kindness, come and gather me in like a rainstorm,
Again and again and again.
I think I will break but I mend.

And it's these most loved losses, they are just old coin tosses,
And it's these most loved losses are the hardest to carry.

I wish I were a freeway laid out clearer than a bright day.
I'd run wide open down this causeway like brand new

But I'm broken and I don't understand
What is broken falls into place once again.
Hand of kindness, come and gather me in like a rainstorm,
Again and again

Cause I'm broken and I don't understand
What is broken falls into place once again.
Hand of kindness, come and gather me in like a rainstorm,
Again and again and again
Again and again and again
Again and again and again
I think I will break but I mend.

Didn't we learn this in nursery school? Sorry to be so disparaging but the repetitiveness of the melody, the nothingness of the words, the simpleness of the harmonies, and was that supposed to be a middle 8? Every cliché in the book. To steal someone else's words, it hasn't a single redeeming defect. Has it?
Sweet, catchy little pop song.
Crapola.

"Keep You Happy"....!?     rtrudeau: the choice of songs to represent particular album, a particular artist, is at the discretion subjective of each one and not always the choice of production-rp are the happiest and the songs that most artists can benefit, since they songs are the ones that will run on airplay. For example, in my opinion, i find it very questionable to leave out the most original song of the album: "Keep You Happy ", or even "I Know What I'm Looking for Now".
Btw, and I still think: "songs exist, to the times, that it seems equal to as much others...."

Noooo country!! prissy crappy music!!
I LOVE her voice!

She does have a sweet voice; this song does not well-represent the body of work she's done before her being signed to a larger label.  She's a wonderful live performer as well.

I also like her voice, but I'm a sucker for a sweet voice. Her's goes down like a honey lager....mmmm.

You've got to be kidding.  A 10 for this?
Long lost cousin of the Corrs?
Good stuff. 10!

What I was thinking.
I really like the album cover photo. anyone else seeing dana scully here ?

Tift Merritt also seems to be a very talented photographer.

This song will stay with you and the more I hear it, the more I love it. The CD
"Broken Country" is a fantastic CD and may be the best she's ever produced.

Yeah!  New Tift.  I've been waiting.  Ok, this song is a little bland, but I still love her voice.

{#Bananajam}Lots of fun. Seen her live twice here in her hometown, Raleigh NC. This mix is not feeling well though.

Kind of vapid. Nothing noteworthy to catch my interest.

It's not just the compression.  This is a really bad mix.

It is hard to tell a bad mix accurately if the track is highly compressed.

All popular recordings are highly compressed now. The WSJ just had an article on this problem for audiophiles.

Just a little too country to swallow.  Well done, just not my favorite flavor.
Love this track...glad to hear it on RP....
I'd like to hear more from her.

Nice song.  Too bad the mix has pretty much buried her in it.

Pretty cover. Nothing unusual. Maybe some potential.
There should be a lot more Tift Merritt on here.  Beautiful voice.
