Snide trash.  Palsy?  On what scale of sensitivity is that? How about sucko barfo? 
Oldfield made some remarkable music in the '80s and '90s.  Try Taurus, Celt, Discovery and other collections.  And the terrific music for the Academy award nominated-and-winning movie The Killing Fields.

This has little or nothing in common with Yanni, whose style is not up to or near Oldfield's synthesis of genres. Oldfield's pieces often cross hybrid into a solid genre all its own, and have been exceptional. I'm not overly familiar with Yanni, beyond a few sound bites or portions of some PBS tv concerts; tell me I'm wrong, but I think he may seldom go past a credible melding of romantic electronica, sort of like that noodler Kenny G did with his "jazz." For instance, just because we hear Coltrane and Miles here does not mean Kenny G has anything in common with them.

I have mixed feelings. I like Mike, but if we give him airtime, why don't we give some to Yanni? Same genre to me. And I don't think I want hear Yanni here.

I agree Ommadawn is very deep and beautiful. But there are many good Mike Oldfield Albums imo. Early good stuff beside Tubular Bells is "Hergest Ridge", "Five Miles Out" and "Crises (best 80ies synthesizer part ever) , the later album "Songs of Distant Earth" is also a milestone. Not to forget the vocalist songs with the singer "Maggie Reilly".

Dull and noodly.  Original TB was ground-breaking.  MO is a bit mad and reclusive these days with little interest in music (he hates it)' according to recent Q Magazine interview.  Retired like David Bowie?  If that is case, good on him, better than becoming a pantomine dame like Elton John and Mick Jagger.

It is not only the same composer, but it is a reworked version of the same music.  Tubular Bells was the first album by English musician Mike Oldfield and the opening theme was used in The Exorcist.

I like Mike Oldfield just fine. He was one of my early influences into different types of music. But I must say, rarely someone has milked a single song as much as Mike has milked TB - or made quite so many variations of the same thing.
He has othet stuff, and I know he can play different music, so enough already with Tubular Bells!
