Lyrics:

Running down around the towns along the shore
When I was sixteen and on my own
No, I couldn't tell you what the hell those brakes were for
I was just trying to hear my song

Jimmy found his own sweet sound and won that free guitar
We'd all get in the van and play
Life became the Paradox, the Bear, the Rouge et Noir
And the stretch of road running to LA

Pages turning
Pages we were years from learning
Straight into the night our hearts were flung
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where I'm from

All the world was shining from those hills
The stars above and the lights below
Among those there to test their fortunes and their wills
I lost track of the score long ago

Pages turning
Pages we were years from learning
Straight into the night our hearts were flung
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where I'm from

Childhood comes for me at night
Voices of my friends
Your face bathing me in light
Hope that never ends

Pages turning
Pages torn and pages burning
Faded pages, open in the sun
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where I'm from
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where I'm from
When are all the negative posters in this thread coming out with solo albums so we can deride them as contrived? {#Stupid}

Good point.  The first thought that comes to my mind is, Why the special treatment?  He had his day in the sun.  Let's hear someone who didn't.

I concur, but lots of people obviously still love the guy.

I'm familiar with Mr. Browne's background - doesn't change my perception of his performance on this piece. . .

Spot on.  Mr Browne's emoting feels forced, unreal, and further blands out an already painfully plain song. . .

Wow, that's right, just curl up in a ball, die and fade away, huh?  Just cuz an artist "had his day" means they are NEVER TO CREATE AGAIN?  wow, is all I have to say

Also, it doesn't mean he's taking away from someone else!  It's a big creative world out there....and he had 3 sold out shows when I saw him last year...I'd say he's still in the sun and should be.

Jackson Browne - one of those rare storytellers that not only allows me a glimpse inside his soul, he reaches
in and touches mine. Brilliant writer.

One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite artists -  he is always so excellent when performing live.
Jackson is one of my all time favourites, no matter what song! Makes me feel melancholic and happy at the same time.
He's doing an Austin City Limits live taping in May (?) at the new venue...be watching for it folks....Mr. Browne is the consumate professional performer....and one of the most personalble performers I've ever had the pleasure of listening to live.
A superb singer/songwriter/performer who pioneered the "unplugged" genre long before there was even a name for it.
One of those rare occasions I feel compelled to write something. Amazing artist and an amazing song. Bill, you've done it again. Thanks.
First thing I heard when I turned on RP this morning. Surprising to hear Jackson Browne on RP. Thanks for picking a nice non commercial tune.
I've got two of his acoustic CDs, and his between-song banter is sometimes even better than the actual song! I've been a fan since "Doctor My Eyes." He got me through high school, a disastrous stint in another city (teenage rebellion), the death of my best friend (her favorite song was "Late For the Sky") and all manner of other typically life-ish events.  There are a few really gifted lyricists - Dylan, Fogelberg, Mitchell, and Browne - and if someone put a gun to my head and demanded I pick one, I'd have to take the bullet.  Still, Jackson Browne was my "first love," even before Joni.  And this CD is absolutely worth the investment.
I dig Jackson Browne, especially that nice acoustic number!

Nice {#Roflol} "puffy shirt"
LOVE JB!{#Guitarist}
Meh. Never cared for Jackson Browne. :P
Nov 30th, Bass Concert Hall, U of Texas campus....what a SET!  What a professional!  And he was soooo connected to the audience....just seems like a humble man...it was like we were in his living room and he was giving us his gift........thanks Mr. Browne
Wow.  This really hit me tonight. Very, very nice.
"Solo Acoustic" made me remember why I was a Jackson Browne fan before he became lost in slick pop song productions and overt political statements.
Going to see his acoustic set in Austin November 30th!!! Can't WAIT!!!!!!!!!
Saw him play acoustically many years ago here at the benefit marking the signing of the treaty banning land mine. Bruce Cockburn hosted the evening and warmed up for JB. Great show and an appreciative crowd. I've never seen him with his band but he pulls off a lot of his tunes and his guitar playing is quite good
Love hearing JB on RP. These live albums are fantastic (imho).

Time for a trip to the eye doc.  For a bit there it looked to me like the song title was "The Barracudas of Heaven", which would be a completely different vibe... {#Shifty}
The song is an 8 regardless of the title.

actually, maybe not...{#Wink}

Nope. Now I'm informed it's on the 30th. At Ravinia in Highland Park, Il. Thanks!

Alway's been a HUUGE JB fan.  Last saw him on Nov 3 2008, the night before the election.  He was with his band that night and didn't do a lot of acoustic stuff, but did this nonetheless.  2 and half hour show - taking requests and yekking it up with the audience - great show.  {#Clap}
Sacred music.
Jackson is holy.
Thank you R P for this version from his sublime live acoustic CD catalog.
JB is simply a god who walks the earth.
Childhood comes for me at night...

Reminds me that I really gotta change the strings on my guitar.
Stopped work to write. This brings back memories of college from 28 years ago. JB really is a very talented guy. He is at his best in this sparse solo acoustic setting. Great stuff.
This is excellent.  Nice to hear him doing the solo acoustic stuff.

{#Roflol} I'll have to note that down in case I urgently need an idea for the lyrics to a song.

Perfect 10

I'm with a previous poster....this is the Jackson Browne I grew to love. Guess I'll have to buy this album. *edit* Vol 2 due out in February!
