I am watching you!

I hope "They Might Be Giants" is next with "Istanbul".

More Klezmer please! As well as Roma music if you can scrounge it up!

Ron Burgundy on flute really makes this tune.
Fantastic!  I will be exploring more of her music.
Listen to the entire album! It's brilliant...

This sounds like the Massive Attack remix of a song from Fiddler on the Roof.  And I like!!  8

Long Live RP!!

I feel like risking a theory: change the sleeve picture to a Windows meadow wallpaper and rename the girl Joyce Lee. Then some people would perhaps rather rate the tune as good music magistrally played, instead of using such surprisingly acrimonious and vindicative comments to 'PSD' it.
I like the lyrics
East Eurpoean, Gypsy, Jewish, Klezmer, or whatever. It's f@#$ing fantastic!

Hi, is this music "Jewish" and if so why ? It reminds one of various movie soundtracks, but surely there is more than that. Not an adverse comment in any way, merely seeking enlightenment. Thx.

Hi Far (which means 'Rat' in Arabic BTW lol)
I thought I heard the same Hebrew sound, in fact I only came to post a comment about how this track sounds like "Fiddler on the Roof" to me, which happens to be my favorite musical  (although there's only a few I like to begin with lol)

Long live RP! my support payment is coming soon, finally got a good steady job again, and the Goldsmiths are next on my list of payments to make.

Solomon teaches klezmer music, which is specific to Ashkenazi Jewish culture, and definitely klezmer music greatly influences her own compositions (this from her Wikipedia page). But only one influence; she's also worked with a wide variety of artists.

According to some people, there's a second alternative. Superstitious people, that is.

Love this lady; I don't know if I discovered here, but I have a couple of her albums and recommend you give them a listen.
I like the entire ambiance of this work...exciting and envigorating...

Love it - the acoustic guitar, the breathy flute, quite apart from the fiddle.  And its on Spotify
This song is gettin' old.
Already a 9, and that's just for the Klezmer fiddle introduction alone!
Not bad! Like this flute and very nice arrangement!

Lord help you if you need to pee when this comes on. Please— move it off heavy rotation.

Lovely, evocative. Also, the album title is making me think of Madeira (the island) and Madeira (the wine). Madeira (the island) is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I had Madeira (the wine) there—which was also lovely. {#Cheers}

This information has now become part of your overall knowledge base. I hope that makes you happier, if only just a sliver. {#Smile} For some reason this tune is really hitting the sweet spot tonight.

My second Sophie Solomon track in two days. I'm not wholly convinced, but I'm open to hearing more.
Wow. This ones totally working for me right now.

Seriously guys.  I've never heard this track and as soon as it started i thought oi va voi.  I like the albums they did with her best of all.
Kewl.
 jagdriver wrote:

I was just reading about her and learned that as well.  Now it makes sense that when this song starts I first think Oi Va Voy but not quite and then I have to come visit RP to figure out who it is and here I am.  Hmm.
I did not know she is/was an Oi Va Voy alum.
Istanbul is where east meets west, exactly where I would imagine a fusion like this to originate. Note to self: I must listen to Bordello.

I feel like Pavlov's dog, except that I really don't want to rip out anyone's jugular for shocking me instead of feeding me.

What a great Middle Eastern fusion song. I'm really tempted to bump it to 10.

{#Music}
Reminds me of Morocco.  In a very good way!
Reminds me of Boiled In Lead.
Every time I hear the start of this I think you're going to play https://www.youtube.com/user/goayandi - check it out.
Wonderful musician and smokin' hot too boot!{#Hearteyes}
Fans of this may enjoy discovering Duojalal — the lovely Kathyrn Lockwood on viola and Yousif Sheronick, percussion — Dervishes by Inessa Zaretsky-Scherzo in a similar vein, but you'll also find they do really interesting Phillip Glass, Klezmer, and much more ...

Sweet, full of passion.

Has a kind of gypsy sound to me.  But I like it.  Great wake up music.

So does she play the fiddle or what?

Sounds not unlike Ian Anderson's solo work —- specifically, this would fit right in with his Divinities album.

Yes, a guy through and through. However, you are assuming my attraction is based upon the physical image and not the passion of her music? How young are you?

This track is too predictable, repetitive and long. Is she a boy in make up?

Great Gypsy music, though I think she is Jewish.

Yeah, not bad. Good stuff. If she can play the fiddle like that, I wonder what else she can play?

But Simon le Bon is a pretty guy! And she looks Eastern European to me, which to some can be quite attractive. Think of the Romanovs!

Great Song...

A very up beat way to use these instruments.  Very modern but still has a classic appeal!

where's Loreena?  {#Whisper}

I have GOT to get this album.
Bill, your version of resize running on the cover photos has given sophie a sneer in contrast to the zoned out look she had a couple of months ago...
Love this whole album!  Thanks RP for yet another musical artist that has joined my collection.

Ditto today.

Funny thing happened on the way to the next song.  I went to Sophie's website, and this song started playing immediately, but Bill had started The Who's "Amazing Journey".  I thought he'd started it before "Holy Devil" was done.  They actually sounded pretty good together.  For a while {#Dance}

IMO, they didn't succeed.
This song rulz!

makes me want to put on my gypsy skirt and dance!  dance!  dance!
Fantastic set!!!  Bill, you rule!  (OK, so I know that's an expression that's gone out of style, but it "so works.")

Me too.
Surprisingly, "Of Course" isn't on RP at all... A lot of good Jane's is missing here, in fact.

But this song was a good surprise, after the initial letdown. Love it every time it comes on.

Got to like the dervish girl sound

Love this CD!
so much energy!
Winifred Horan with an Arabian flavor.  I love the fusion here.  Well played!

No not me, but possibly Frater_Kork. I may yet try to upload something of theirs from the album I have, Seventh Trip. If so, it'll be my first upload...not sure how it works precisely.
