Seems to me this album was full of 8's and 9's, but overall it was and is still a 10 to me. Somehow, it just all came together and flowed so well. And now, sadly, 60% of the original band is no longer with us.

At first listen, most of this song is kind of ho-hum to me, but the chorus is killer. The song gives me hints that I would REALLY like the album. The influences on the Glam period to come are obvious, and that alone makes me want to pick up this album and give it a serious listen. Plus, there's the whole Bauhaus tie-in. Thanks for playing this, guys. It's a reminder that I've needed for a long time.

In '68 Spirit was backed on tour by Led Zeppelin. Many accounts cite that, in creating Stairway To Heaven, the Zep's Jimmy Page borrowed the key riff from Spirit's Taurus—charges that Page denies. California ultimately penned all of Spirit's hits, including I Got A Line On You, 1984 and Nature's Way.

Got to see Spirit on tour for this album at the North Miami Beach Jai Lai Fronton winter of 1970.  The Allman Bros opened.  One of the best concerts I have ever been to.  And what a venue, the acoustics were so different from anyplace indoors I had been before.

I won't dispute their talent as performers or the importance of their influence on other bands but to my ear Spirit has not aged as well as others.  From that era, give me Traffic or CCR any day.  I listened to them in the '70s (I'm 50) but Spirit sounds like self indulgent hippie music to me now.
