Manu Chao reminds me a lot of the Clash back in the day. To many Rock n Roll purists in the late 70s, the Clash was just noise. But they used the sounds of the streets, with a political message. Manu Chao is also using the sounds of the streets, and a political message. The fact that the sounds of the streets are a lot more "pop crap" is our own fault.

Quite a different way to make a "protest song". Very catchy tune - and (my opinion) great lyrics. saw them at a show. thought they were mellow, but are REALLY hard core. a little too much for me. kinda like a punk concert.
