Oh, a storm is threatening
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Oh, see the fire sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away, shot away

Oh the floods are threatening
My very life today
Come on gimme shelter
Else I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away, it's just a shot away, it's just a shot away

Tell me you love, sister, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away, it's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away

Love, it's just a kiss away
Just a kiss away
Love, oh love
Love, love, love

Love

I REALLY like this rendition. Go Angélique!

I like AK quite a bit, but this remake is way too whitewashed devoid of the urgency and emotion of the original, which is what the song is all about.
This is one brutally sawed song in the ratings department :)
I kinda like it
Ms Stone is responsible for some very dicey stuff - "Super Heavy" being some of it.  I assume that might be the Jagger connection here.  Unfortunately, this track was so bad it crashed the app and I couldn't reload it for a little while.  Never mind.
Three seconds in I was thinking oh my god no, but as it went on . . . .well, I kept listening.  It's just that covering this song is such an uphill battle. Still, gotta give her credit for trying.  A for effort, not so bad in the end.

miss.
amazing song (originally), unbelievable talent in these two artists, but in unfortunate rendering of this classic. Bouncy upbeat music doesn't work with a song about the agony of war and rape. My first 3 on RP in a long time.
Crikey, that was truly awful
Awesome.

Exactly!     ('cept I'll give it an 8 )
damn, why not?  {#Dancingbanana}

I'm not crazy about this, but it did remind me of my favorite documentary, Twenty Feet from Stardom, so that's good I guess. I might re-watch it tonight.
I was in such shock for a minute or two that my brain didn't even make it to the idea of hitting the PSD button.

I've been a Kidjo fan for a while, too. Saw her in concert long ago (before she was cool!).
No.

Early feelings were positive. Ears perked up. I hear Merry Clayton's backup vocals in my head, and expect this version to really to build in a new interpretation. And then... nothing It couldn't end soon enough. Don't play this again please Bill.
First thought "Why the hell is the lady from 'Lost in Translation' now singing on RP....?" Not too keen on this one.....
It shocks me to see all the negative comments. I am jam'n here!! This song rocks.
this is one of my few 1s and I really like Joss so this deeply saddens me you both can do better shame on you
I have to say, I really try not to say anything negative, but this song marks the first time I feel compelled to say..."Wow, I really do NOT enjoy this take on a song I like."
I'll give it a 2 since Joss Stone at least sings on key.
This is a mistake, right?
....Hmm? I agree!!... ProfessorFrink wrote:
An unlistenable cover version of one of my top 25 favorite songs of all time. Ugh. Y'know that "just a shot away"? Please point it at my head.

this was terrible. I had to shut it off. Joss Stone has a great voice but this was awful.
Someone should do some serious time, you know where!!
That Joss is too, too hyper. Can it be she tries too hard? Too close to Britney or Christina. 1.
Not my favorite from this album. Saw Angelique in concert a couple of months ago. She's definitely a must see if you get the chance. Her energy and attitude are awesome.
Esto no es bueno y siento el strutt de la necesidad mi cosa cobarde del vómito
so ... conflicted ...

lol
Not even close to the original. Do the world a favor and shut it.
This one is a rare 5 for me. I prefer the original, but it's an interesting take. Nothing I'd want in the mp3 player, but as an occasional diversion it has merit.
kidjo is all right, but joss is laying it on a bit too thick... which i guess is what she does. *shrug*
I was going to boo this one, not being my favorite song, or cover....but then I saw it was Angelique Kidjo, whom I think is very good and so its passable.....
joss stone channels tom jones channeling mick jagger?!
I was going to give it a 3 until I realized that would have brought up the average rating!

I justs figured out what this reminds me of: Those overdone, overorchestrated and overwrought live performances at awards shows like the Grammys that make you wish they'd just let the damn band play the song the way it was recorded.
Thanks for putting into words what I couldn't even describe in my head. I keep expecting to hear Carol Channing or Enrique join in for the Vocal Gymnastics competition.

ditto sir.
Interesting. Don't know if I like it or not.
I'll reserve final judgment, but my initial impulse is that this is awful. Definitely a different interpretation of the song than that givem to it by the Stones, though.

OMIGOD!!! I ALMOST can't bvelieve the detractors. I hear an even GREATER sense of urgency than the Stones had in their original. IMNSHO their best was on the live GET YOUR YA-YAS OUT or HOT ROCKS
No, this is bad. I don't care if it's a cover or not, it's bad.
um, NO! Make it stop....
No. This is way too Eighties. Sounds like it should have been in the soundtrack of The Mighty Quinn.
Ouch!
...just a shot away...
am I on a crappy cruise ship?
God, I think I hate this!
What a horrible rape and murder of one of Rock's best songs. Please make it stop.
SARKO BARFO!
Joss Stone? She can sing but reeks of Volvo or Coca Cola or something. Not sure exactly what.
Not too shabby. I'm just not in the mood for something like this right now...
OUT-FREAKIN'-STANDING!!!
I'd like to hear Joss Stone get down on this tune on her own. This version seems to "sweet."
this is pretty cool!
What a GAS!
