Brown doves on the wire
Do they ever tire
Up in the eggshell sky
I know if it was me
Wings a' take ya far
The burden of flight is our's

Even 'thout the sun in your eyes
Some things are hard to find
You could go the rest of your life
'Till the fountain of youth runs dry

Ever in pursuit of another clue
The sea in response is blue
Take a look around
Have you any doubt
The heart is responding too

Even 'thout the sun in your eyes
Some things are hard to find
You could go the rest of your life
'Till the fountain of youth runs dry

Comes another freeze
All the barren trees
Under the eggshell sky
They may disappear
Splendor of the years
Unknowable without tears

Even 'thout the sun in your eyes
Some things are hard to find
You could go the rest of your life
'Till the fountain of youth runs dry
'Till the fountain of youth runs dry
'Till the fountain of youth runs dry

So, what's wrong with birkenstocks and gingham?  Comfortable, versatile, and just plain fun.  A lot like Grant-Lee Phillips, except that he's got a lot more to offer than just comfort.... Love this song. {#Sunny}

Liked the transition from Bruce Springsteen to Grant-Lee Philips. For some reason there is a flow which brings me to hum the tunes from Jack Johnson "Thicker than Water' cd?

Transition or blatant lift? {#Eyes}

There's an album called Quark, Strangeness and Charm but quarks are known to exist. You know I don't think there are, but I think there are some that would make some good album/band names. The Sleptons has a nice ring to it.

Is this the only album ever named after a hypothetical sub-atomic particle?

I don't know this album, but I have all of Grant Lee Buffalo releases, and 2 or 3 of his solo work - not a bad album in the bunch.

I've always looked on cynicism as a positive attribute. Used in moderation of course.

  Aye, he was.

Nice song - one of my favorite artists, too

Great song.  Thought it was Bruce Springsteen, but that is probably why Bill decided to play it after a Bruce song!
GLP is a national treasure. More songs from his 'Nineteeneighties' album please!!!

Grant Lee Phillips was one of my more pleasant music "discoveries" of last year. I knew about him and had heard all the RP songs, but decided to delve into his catalogue a bit. Great stuff.

Can't understand those who can't understand the positive comments on this song. It's quite nice.

Is this Country? I thought it was jus a nice little Pop song.

I don't know if it's a "nice" anything, but no, it ain't country, neither.

+1 —- reminds me of a lot of different artists in the genre described above.  I hear a little Wallflowers in there too ;)

I love GLP, his music sounds old and familiar and new and freash all at the same time.
My brain immediately said "Josh Rouse". So I learned something today!
Such a great talent. Not his best song, but still pretty good.
I feel like I'm listening to Jack Johnson in the dessert...

I find such comfort in his voice.
I like it... yeah I really like it.. very pleasant. I gave it an 8.

I'm thinking very, very early Collective Soul, as in Allegations and all things left unsaid. But I hear the other comparisons as well. Still, a well crafted song.
Grant-Lee Phillips - Fountain Of Youth Tom Petty - Learning To Fly Jeff Tweedy - Sunken Treasure Béla Fleck - New South Africa What a great radio station!
When I heard this the other day, I thought that Bruce Springsteen might have decided to improve for the first time since 1970-whatever and record a good song. Hear the Jacob Dylan there too ... more clearly than Springsteen. It doesn't sound much like Grant-Lee Phillips to me. Despite that, I like it. EDIT: I see some others heard BS in there as well.
I like it. Yessir. I do. I like it.
Anybody hear Jacob Dylan?
This album's nice and pleasant enough, but I don't know what happened to the mind-blowingly-great Grant-Lee we heard on his "Mobilize" album. Sounds like he's stretching after a long nap.
Hard to believe this is the same guy that did all that phenomenal pseudo-glam music for "Velvet Goldmine". I LOVE that stuff. This... not so much. Just seems sleepy.

I... I think I like this. I think I have a new found liking of "country twang" I guess it is called. More of this and more of Wilco. Hey how bout some Willie or even a little Dwight? Go RP!
Kind of reminds me of Springsteens early stuff, or possibly something you would find on his Tracks CD's...

I'm diggin' the stuff I hear from this album.
"You've got a lot of nerve. . . . "
Second first playing from this album today. This is marginally better than the previous track, but still fairly... mundane or bland. Can't decide which.
Pleasant vocals. Pleasant instrumentation. Like it.
