Listen to me sister, I got news from the governor
And he's heard people shouting from the towers in the city
While their babies grow in test tubes over night.

Run and fetch the priest, 'cause there's a light on in the building
And there's sounds blowin' out in the music of the night
And we should try to get the people out alive.

Movin' 'cross the ocean with the flag of death a-flyin'
And the demon butcher pointin' out the message on the tide
And the demon light a-sailin' by his side.

Stormin' down the airwaves comes the protest and the prayin'
And the love that shone down from the sun to the world
No longer could support the life it gave.

Not a fan favorite on RP, apparently.

If you read the iTunes review of this album from 1973, you'll understand why it isn't the best ELO stuff. Jeff Lynne was just starting to figure out the band's direction and sound. The synthesizer technology of that time seems pretty limited to my ears as well.

Hey, look: a lot of ELO's most popular tracks got played to death on FM. This track shows you what the band was up to in its early stages. It's little woollier and more frenetically chaotic than the polished sound of later years but it's a nice change of pace and a bit of a history lesson to boot. I give it a 6, although I'll lower that rating if I hear this song too much—feels too much like a jam session that should have been kept on the shelf or shortened.

Nice, nice segue from this to "Good Cop Bad" by Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet.

bill, are you just testing to see if we are all really listening?  this is bad.
Had to leave suddenly ... is it safe now ..?
Hadn't heard this one in a long while.
I thought it was over there for a second... momentary happiness was obliterated shortly thereafter.

The options for rating need a 0.
At least it gives us a chance to see the color assigned to "3"s on the playlist.....  Never seen so many "1"s and while I'm one of them, I'm glad Bill completely ignores the RP masses from time to time.

So it looks like the voting has no bearing on if a song this unpopular gets played again or not...

Wasn't familiar with this one.  I kinda like it.

Busy.

But I can readily understand why it irritates the hell out of even ELO's most appreciative fans. hehe

This song sucks.

There are SO many better songs of theirs you could be playing. And a big slap up-side the head for whatever idiot uploaded it.

I'm a pretty big ELO fan, though not as much as I used to be back in the day, and I agree completely - this is one of their worst ever, and the 3.4 rating doesn't surprise me. Why not some of their better songs like Mr Blue Sky (always puts a smile on my chops :o)) or the 10538 Overture or even Horace Wimp. A sad 2 from the Nottingham jury :(

The trend continues...  Some sort of auto programming of lists?  Or just a cruel Joke.

And thanks for he warning that this is 8 minutes long so I can take a stretch break.

Are we paying attention, or  What ?...ok. Got the joke, stop this.

Don't worry it won't be the last time. Bill has been playing it on and off since april 2007.
That was not funny.

{#Crashcomp} Awful.....
No. 1? Seems like number two to me.

When does this end??????????????

Seriously.  What is going on?  This hurts my ears.  {#Crashcomp}

no surprise there then.

Far, faaar from their best stuff... {#Arrowd}
Wow, that was ... bad. I know these guys can play, but that was just ... bad. Very bad. It lacked in artistry, and it tried to make up for it in bombast. You know what that adds up to? It adds up to bad.
I wasn't really listening, but all of a sudden I heard a sound that made me think I'd left the tea kettle on. I don't think tea kettles should rate higher than oh, a 2.

lol, yeah well I like it. Gets a 10 from me.
ELO rules!
I can't believe I gave this a 7!!! It really is a ponderous piece of garbage. 1 and that's being generous.
Judging by the comments, this gets played once a month. Judging by the ratings, that's still way too much.
In this case (if not others), ELO = Excruciatingly Lame and Obnoxious.
ARGH!

For those of us with pets, how many of you have played with their heads? We are RP's pets, let's acknowledge the joke and hopefully Bill will move on...
I have found that ELO is either a love or hate thing. I hadn't heard this in ages, so I just bought it from amazon. I guess I love it.
As an ELO fan, I'll say there were a lot of bad songs on ELO's first couple of albums, but I like this one, and I haven't listened to it in a while, because I only have this album on vinyl. Thanks, Bill.
FYI - this song is over 8 minutes long so you might want to take this time to walk the dog, etc. and come back for better music just trying to be helpful
At least it's not Radiohead!
I flipped over to Radioio Eclectic 10 seconds into that song until it was safe to come back to RP ;)
Horrendous. What a mess!
Hey Jeff, throw in a cowbell, a double bassoon, a ukelele, and I think we've got it!
Horrible.
Very inventive symphonic sort of thing. Reminds me of Rhapsody in Blue. I'll bet Gershwin received the same kind of comments. Oh, and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring -- folks not only walked out of the premiere performance but they rioted in the aisles. To each his own .. every cat has his rat, etc.
there has to be better songs from ELO. doesn't there? if i could give this a negative number i would.
Ouch. Is this a record low rating for RP?
My ears are bleeding
I even dissed this one! And I'm a "Golden Oldie"! I used to love ELO!

The best part of this song is the "boogie woogie" piano riffs. Agree that even though I like (liked?) ELO, this song sucks. BILL, find another cut!!
There is better ELO out there. This is just a mediocre synth-happy Beatlesque noise experiment.
No, this doesn't go well at all with anyhing I might possible ever be doing.

There was a short time in the seventies, when I really liked the album Eldorado, but after a while I came to my senses and absolutely hated it. For this song it took me considerably less time to hate it (about the duration of the song)
I'm a bit of an ELO fan, so I guess I have a pretty high tolerance factor for their more outlandish escapades. This being one of them. The overall set is pretty crap but the Boogie part cracks me up! =)
And to think Jeff Lynne once said that ELO was continuing the work the Beatles started. *cough*
Stop the madness...I'll confess to anything

Wow those guys put out some trippy music. I didn't think you could work piano and violins into the same song like that!
Jusy hearing Conquistadore - Procul Harum following this one. If you are going to play ELO before it then it has to be Across The Border from Out of the Blue - A perfect segue in my opinion anyway.

Good to hear ELO but have to agree - Jeff Lynne and the boys did manymany songs better than this. About time we heard something from Out of the Blue, Discovery or Time. Alternatively the full legth version of Roll Over Beethoven

Just never really appreciated the whole premise of this band. Maybe my limits, especially during the teenage years when I encountered them.
