It's high now
So low it's high
Like this, check it out yo

Took a trip on a bus that I didn't know
Met a girl sellin' drinks at the disco
Said truth comes back when you let it go
Seems complicated cause it's really so simple
Walkin' down Yonge Street on a Friday
Can't follow them, gotta do it my way
No fast lane, still on a highway
Movin' in and out, no doubt there's a brighter day

[Chorus x2:]
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
Ahh, haa... Check out the crabs in the bucket

It's like this, It's like this...
It's like fly in a room, scream, writing on walls
Swear this clone been havin' a ball
Claimin' themselves just before last call
Tic-a-tic-a-toc tic-a-tic-a-toc
Clock strikes twelve, clock strikes one
Smoking gun put these fools on the run
I know it's not that simple, I know it's not that hard
Where's your goal

[Chorus x2:]
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
Ahh, haa... Check out the crabs in the bucket

Yeah na I mean
Yeah, I heard you man, yo, check, yo, yo

It's a conniption, fit when the microphones lit
I take it higher like a bird on a wire, retire the fire
I'll never cause I'm just moving on up
Choosin' to touch, the unseen, craving the clutch
The most inevitable, legible pyro-mania
Slaying the devil, and send him back to Transylvania
Strangely enough, I avoid that side of the ghetto
From my heavy metal, will settle the puppets like Jepeto
Damm, if mirrors where created by sand
Then I'm looking in the water for reflections of man
Understand the minds above time when it's empty
Emcee, tragically hip, ahead by a century, rrahh

[Chorus x2:]
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
No time to get down cause I'm moving up
Ahh, haa... Check out the crabs in the bucket

Bought this album ten years ago after hearing it on RP.  The whole album is great.
Is this about sexually transmitted lice?
Did somebody say "crabs in the bucket"?

New song for me. Great metaphor!
sucko barfo indeed. amongst the most annoying crap ever played here :-(( puke!!!
Ha Ha already rated Sucko Barfo. This is definitely irritating as hell. And catchy. Well played, Bill.

Yep thought it was Cure...Love Cats. Glad it isn't. VERY GLAD. This is far better.
Thought it was the Lovecats from The Cure

Still, cool song. Where is K-Os now?

And it's not that flattering about Toronto. IIRC, K-Os wrote it about the local arts community dragging people down the way crabs in a bucket pull other crabs down as they attempt to crawl over each other to escape.
doods: y'all need to chill on the Love Cats comments. You're aware that the Cure didn't invent that riff, right? You're aware that it's a jazz "walking bassline" riff, and it's been used in dozens of songs, right? Hit the Road, Jack; Hitchin A Ride; Stray Cat Strut - and that's just off the top of my head. And you're aware that Robert Smiths "solid gone" line is a reference to a Louis Prima line from I Wanna be Like you, from Jungle Book, right? So if the Cure can pay homage, so can K-Os.
As a few mentioned earlier this song builds a rod for it's own back by starting like that and not being Love Cats.
This doesn't pass the sniff test. It's phony.

For years growing up I was highly allergic to sea food.  The idea of something I was allergic to chasing me around the restaurant is frightening.

Also, the tree-hugging bleeding heart liberal in me says that cooking crab and lobster is cruel.  The idea of dropping a living thing in boiling water speaks only of torture, not of cuisine.  However, anything dipped in lemon butter sauce is going to be tasty and if I could eat it, I have no doubt that any moral objections would be quickly overcome by the happiness and security that comes with being on top of the food chain.

Of course, I come from an area that used to be full of dairy and beef farms where the motto has always been "carve off what you want, and ride the rest home!"  And people wonder why I moved.

....I was going to say - I sure hope The Cure are listed in the liner notes - a blatant rip off.....  I can surely do without this song.

Very catchy song. I find it very entertaining. It rate it an 8, which appears to be a bit higher than average. Not every song has to be deep and meaningful..

Putumayo is a department in Colombia along the northern Ecuador border.  It means gushing water in Quechua.  The area has been known for coca leaf growing, for arms trafficking and for the pasta trade.  It continues to host violent and deadly confrontations between the Colombian security forces and the neo-marxist thugs known as FARC.

...lovecats...
"crap in the buckit" hehehehe
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for songs about crabs but...First time I heard this I kinda liked it.  Second time not so much. Karma might be wrong today though.
Oh yeah, crabbing off of the north Oregon coast - trying to get the crabs out of the crabpot and into the bucket without losing any of your important parts. . .

. . . and of course drawn butter. . .

"Not really RP like"  You're kidding, right?  This is exactly what RP is all about.  As a matter of fact I think anything can be on RP and it would be "RP like".   Just my opinion.

Bumped to 8. Dunno - something about this beat and the SNZ-like vibe... (Um, I have a song called "Crablouse," but I doubt it would work in a set with "Crab" as the subject...) {#Lol}

My 9 year old thought this song said, "She got to crap in the bucket."{#Lol}
Oh, that beat. Makes me crave steamed mussels in white wine and garlic. And the ocean.

Me too! I was really surprised when this wasn't Lovecats. & I agree, Lovecats does have a catchier beat. But this is way groovy too!

I suggest Rid®.
This was originally on Joyful Rebellion. Check out B-Boy Stance; you won't be able to keep your butt in your seat.
Geez, anyone can put a record / CD out there nowadays.  Talent? Not necessary!

WOW!  K-OS on RP!!  I haven't heard him playered on here before.  The whole K-OS album this track is on is incredible :) Now if only RP played some Jurassic 5 or Blackalicious we'd really be into the funky counscious hip hop!

Yes ! more rap ! true eclecticism !

everyone here look up immortal technique. I don't care if you've never listened to anything except john fogerty.

Do it now.

Have a nice eternity.
Was that Q-Tip there towards the end?  Sounded a bit like him, though maybe not quite as high.  I like the track alot though.

another Canadian eh...
..is that in the bass line  The Cure's  "Love Cats"?    it is pretty similar I bet.
More handclaps! {#Clap}
I'm from Maryland, and the title of this song just gave me a powerful craving for a bucket of steamed crabs . . . "let's go down the ocean fer a crab feast, hon!"

Sweet tune. 8.
I bought this album after hearing a few songs on RP, The Alice Russell and Cat Empire ones I think. This song was one of my favorites. Everyone I have played it for likes it. I normally don't like these Putumayo types of Albums, but I got some good stuff from this one and found some good new funky artists that I would not normally listen to.
This reminds me of my 3 year old on the beach this summer, when she bent down to look at a sand crab and said, "Hi there, little buddy!" It was a complete opposite from the 9 yr-old who ran screaming when the crab ran at her. hee hee...
Is this sort of Prince-ish or is it just me?

He just saw something cool lying around and stuck it in his pocket when he thought nobody was looking. (click here)
