A friend of mine has a cabin in northern Wisconsin. They have this honky tonk show that plays on Saturday nights. I remember hearing this song there, all half in the bag ... this makes me wish I was up "'dere in nordern' Sconsin", even though I know it would never have been followed by Queens of the Stone Age...

Interesting insights. The chili-cookoff scam sounds typical of that particular event: the one(s) in Terlingua and elsewhere have practically come to violence. Radio station-wise, they play what the widest audience wants, which, sadly, is right down the middle of the road. Which is why we're here at RP! Merle Haggard spent much of his early life in jail: "Mama Tried" is a true story. Obviously his experiences affected his tastes in pools and locomotives. c.

Not the first time I heard this from a Bakersfield local. Whatever praise we can heap on a person for persevering and succeeding in the cutthroat music industry, especially someone from the background of a Buck Owens, once they attain some measure of fame and success, we expect them to back off! Not arguing, just sort of odd on our part.
