Don't you go looking so surprised, baby don't you look so stunned
Didn't I tell you that a cold november'd come?
And deliver the leaves from green to red,
To blowing in the wind stone dead

Well I never used to notice this awful quiet, mmmmh
And fall was just the calm before the next spring riot, mmmhh
Of wildflowers and lunatic rivers -
Sweat jumping off of the skin of love givers, mmh (in the park)

Scattered leaves don't lie
Aw' now baby, baby, quit your cryin'
Like everything that ever mattered, scit-scat scattered
Like every love word you heard
But that's just the way when you walk your days
In the beauty of this world
(repeat)

Pretty little disappointments all in a row
Been about a year since you disappeared through my door
And now you come back with your head on straight,
But I got no love or hate left for you, girl

You must be the daughter of the late, late rose - I'm November's son
And I'm here to tell you, honey, ooh what's done is done
Yeah, I been claimed by the wind and the rain
There ain't no going back, naw there ain't no going back again (for us now)

Repeat chorus -- Scattered leaves don't lie...

This seems like Jazz-Folk-Americana all in one. Great song
just upped from 7 to 8 after re-reading the lyrics. It has been awhile since listening to the album and this is a wonderful post-love song...
Totally Cool!!!!

How can that photo be of them?  An old Rambler station wagon, hard sided luggage and vintage clothing.   Is it true?
Fantastic lyricism here and I love the quavering delivery.
It would be nice if there was a "appreciate the talent of the music but just not my cup of tea" level for rating songs.

Wasn't I amazed to learn that this time the voice didn't belong to Nathalie Merchant!

Sorry, but gotta ask, what were you pouring over the document and what's a pen?

Her voice doesn't bother me at all, but I also like Beth Hart and Laura Love and Natalie Merchant.
I have to endure this-UGH! to get to the good stuff on RP {#Stop}
SWEET!
I will admit that her voice takes some getting used to.  But that banjo and the rest of the instrumentation is fabulous.
Might want to see a doctor about that, sounds painful.

Man, this comment had me on the floor...

At least we've got her on the short list of potential replacement singers if Antony and the Johnsons break up.

Scary Good!
just enjoyed it.
ew. not liking this song...
Love her voice.
She has a solo album.

Gotta disagree with the flow here and say i think the voice is great.  The failure to sound like a homogeneous record industry drone is actually quite appealing to some.
I used to like TBGT but the goat thing got to me. Like Natalie Merchant.

You know?!? I just had the same reaction! (But Natalie's OK).  I can't believe I ever rated this song a 2.  ugh. ear pain.

{#High-five}

While she sings like a female Ozzy, I must admit it has grown on me.  3 -> 5.
Why do they always sound like they are singing through a thick, woolen blanket?

Too bad there's no songs by the Roches at RP.  Can you upload?

For anyone considering, this is a lovely album. And you can't beat the Prince cover on the hidden track!
absolutely beautiful...unique vocals. lovely acoustic instrumentation.
wow....they be good them tanyas...

{#Clap}

I have always liked voices with some character and she certainly has it.   9.

I often like Be Good songs, but the singer's voice is so affected here. She's starting to sound like (say it isn't so) Natalie Merchant. Yikes.
{#Puke}
This is very very good and then some you!

I would like to like them more, but her voice annoys me.

Oooo. Cruel, but I also think her voice is a travesty.

Huh, What did she say?

The comments are hilarious. I don't know why she annoys so many people. I just ordered this CD and I'm looking forward to it. I love the voice and vocal style.
Funny thing is that is what attracts me to her sound..ktnsb wrote:
She has an extremely distracting vibrato, or is it a tremolo? Regardless,it is something up with which I'd rather not put.

Awesome!

Is that what the kids are callin' it these days? Dig them BGTs! c.
ah! bliss!
Ugh - how does this empart success onto the band - the lead singer gags the senses
Ohmigod!!! Did she have a stroke?? I think it is very brave of her to keep singing after such a debilitating affliction. Fie on all you naysayers!

Ugh. Her voice seriously makes me nauseated.

S/he doesn't really mean that about Celine, heaven forbid! Just a little Canuck humour, eh? BTW - Have to ask: Are you a Chilliwack fan, middleagedhipster? Now if you uploaded some of that! (click here)
Can't stand the voice, it's like a chainsaw screaming in my brain.

I'm really hoping that one day, the talented part of the band will declare mutiny on the lead singer.
lmao. I can't agree with the sentiment, but that is a brilliant turn of phrase.
Heck, I'll even invite 'em inside. Great tune. middleagedhipster wrote:

Amen. I have to rate this band lower each time I hear them. Music -> good. Singer -> hard to listen to.
Right on target, Liser.

Agreed. She should stick to piano or something. Maybe someone punched her in the throat? Should have called themselves "The Shaky Tanyas"

If it wasn't for RP I would have never heard of 'The Be Good Tanyas' or Neko Case. I love'em! And that more than makes up for Morphine, the yin to their yang.

No doubt about it, Frazey has a unique voice, and usually that means some love it and some hate it (see also: Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Natalie Merchant, John Hyatt, Tom Waits, and many others) There's no accounting for taste. I absolutely adore her voice. Love the Tanyas! To indulge in a cliché, she could sing the phone book and make it sound good. I understand the voice thing is a deal killer for people who don't like it, but there is so much more about this song to love: the groove, the melody, the lyrics.... It's a 10 for me.
Cliché away, my friend. I dig her voice too. c.
Loving it!!
last couple songs have an edge to them

Wow I just rated this song an 8 the other day! And then noticed that I posted this back in july... So within 3 Months of hearing something I wasn't exactly crazy about it has grown on me...Not sure if it is familiarity or if maybe I had a couple of glasses of wine and heard it at home relaxing compared to being in the office.

Reminds me of the coda to "Mind Games"... "I want you to make love, not war..." Did I just compare The Be Good Tanya's to John Lennon?

Agreed. Most people have a narrow spectrum which limits their ability to get past any perceived irritating quality to 'hear' the rewarding parts. Myself included.
