Mory Kante's version is not a remix, it's the original, from 1987 actually.
Great documentary about Alpha Yaya Diallo: https://vimeo.com/139745939
As a former Yembe player I can only appreciate the craftmanship of these players.

More cross-cultural and blending of influences and rhythms.

--> In that case, check out the recordings by African Guitar Summit (of which he's a member)! You'll love them.

MORE LIKE THIS
I've probably already written this, but I Love this song!
Yes! One of my oldtime favourites. Fantastic voice and rythm. Thanks for putting it up{#Laughing}
Love this song!
I knew the version of Mory Kanté, also good!
I love the 'squiggly" string sounds. And when they sing Ye ke Yeke.
Wow! Know this tune from Fatala, a band that visited Seattle in the 1990s. This one has a positively Balkan, on your toes lightness! RP you are something I am grateful for.

You are the very definition of a hater. Not just because of the insufferable witlessness of your comment but because I note that more than half of your song ratings have been a 1. Why are you listening to this station if you rate more songs a 1 than you have voted 2-10 combined? Why even listen to music at all if it brings out such loathing in you?

Boom!  Headshot. {#Notworthy}
I LOVE this song! I have heard it on the radio over the decades but I never knew how to
find its name! Thank you Radio Paradise. I'm going to send you another donation right now!

When will we hear some tunes from "SOO", the new album of HABIB KOITE...?

This interpretation of YEKE YEKE is awesome!
West Guinea has nothing to do with Botswana, but that won't stop me putting in a plug for this delightful book series that I love so much.

I see, so maybe it is racist to have categories in the music store? You guys in the UK have taken the PC route to the extreme lately. BTW, I couldn't care less if somebody in Africa or Europe or wherever called Bruce Springsteen "World Music".

Sure, people would benefit from hearing more music from outside their own country. That's why RP likes to mix it up for those few who might actually like a song like this, but may not have had a forum to hear it. I have no problem with that as long as the core is more in line with RP's target audience. But ultimately people like what they like and then rate it so. Too democratic for ya?

So, you have some crystal ball that's telling only you, I suppose from your statement, just what "RP's target audience" might be?

How special it must be, to be you, diagoro.

Love it! Have discovered so many sounds and music I've never before heard, on RP! Sexy and makes one feel like they are in a different place.

Can't help thinking that some of you guys in the US of A are far too dismissive and unappreciative of music outside of your own culture. And the term "world Music" is so very patronising and inappropriate, bordering on racist IMHO and has fallen way out of favour here in the UK when describing music from other countries/cultures.  it's a bit like someone in Africa describing Bruce Springsteen as World Music. Geddit?

Amen. My favorite three things about RP: 1. exposure and introduction to music I'd otherwise not learn to know, 2. I hear the songs I know and love already, 3. If I hate it, the next song will probably wipe it from memory!

Eastern ?? Guitarist and singer Alpha Yaya Diallo, from Guinea in West Africa, is one of the hottest acts on the current world music scene. Now based in Vancouver, Canada, he's earned a matchless reputation internationally for the excellence of his musicianship and the excitement of his live shows - whether performing solo or with his band Bafing. https://www.alphayayadiallo.com/alpha.html

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up for me too.
Great time to go back and check out a couple tunes I heard earlier.
Sorry Bill, the repetitive vocals were like chewing up non-chewable vitamins.
So much going on in this very rich sound.
I can deal with the instrumental. The vocals just kill it for me.
Wow, it was 1996 and some friends and I were hiding in the bushes at Seattle Center, smoking a bowl at Bumbershoot. We were near the Mural stage and heard the most amazing African music. We emerged from the bushes and were enthralled with this guy's performance for the next hour or so. He had a gigantic band with him and rocked out on a Strat while the rest of the band jammed on a variety of African instruments. Incredible. Glad to be reminded of them!
Nope, not for me. Just can't get into this kind of music.
Nice groove- good beat, you could dance to it. I'll give it a 12, Bill.
Ah I remember this song from 80s. Niiiceee..
