I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

Oh well

And when I talk to God I know he'll understand
He says, "Stick by me, I'll be your guiding hand
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to"

Oh well

GOOD TUNE!!  I never heard it before.  That is why we come here. Thanx RP!

I love Joe Jackson. This the first time I've heard this. Where the hell have I been?

Just what I thought. The only trouble is that it's too short as I found it by hitting the PSD button when Bat For Lashes battered my ears, and now she's back, wailing away like a banshee on a reality show.....{#Grumpy}

just another cover... very original not
Good Version!
And still good for 2008. keller1 wrote:

I am enjoying Joe's aggressiveness here. It's not going to outshine the original, but has a few more balls than that tepid Kottke version. And the segue into Pipeline: very nice!!

It's like Law & Order gone hard core! Shweet...
What about Alvin Lee!?!?!! Smokin' hot version!

best version of this - hands down. Joe is the man.
Joe's show at the Recher Theater in Towson is in the top 5 of my favorite concerts. As someone who grew up in Towson - when he played Hometown I nearly lost it.

This is a nice cover but it won't replace Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac's original version.
Indeed!! It loses points from the start for the cheesy keyboard sound doing the main riff.
I think either Bill or Rebecca likes to collect versions of Oh Well like baseball cards . . . I like a lot of Joe Jackson's stuff, and have always loved Oh Well for the guitar riff and the lyrics. Not my favorite version, but I give Joe a seven for a good effort and a good choice of cover.
Way cooler than the horrid Leo Kotke version Why Leo?Why?
Joe Jackson is the man. Great cover of a cool tune.

Oh well, he can't sing, isn't pretty, and his legs are thin. And we didn't ask his opinion of us, either!
Ditto.

I couldn't have said it any better. Please make this stop. otoh, Jimmy Page/Black Crowes covered it nicely, and I've heard bootlegs of Tom Petty's cover during his recent tour.

Ripping segue to Pipeline in the end. =)
This was the first version of this song I ever heard. Love it!

Great artist wasting his time on a decent cover of a time worn classic rock lodestone. . .
Just started to write the same thing except this isn't really even a decent cover.

I see the other complaints below concerning Joe doing covers. Personally, I think this rocks. Joe always pays homage to some favorite artist of his and covers a song whenever he's in concert. I always look forward to this part of the show as it gives a glimpse into Joe's interests and tastes. To me he's one of the greatest musicians working today.
What he/she said. What's interesting about this particular segment, re the complaint about too many versions of "Congo Square", is that RP also plays both the Fleetwood Mac and Leo Kottke/Mike Gordon versions of "Oh, Well" as well as Junior Brown's version (in his "Surf Medley") of "Pipeline", but not The Chantays' (not The Ventures--sorry, Bill) original. For my money, you could play Joe Jackson all the time without wearing out your ears--well, at least not for the first run through...

because...listen carefully here...THIS ROCKS!!! holy frijoles, jumpin joe sounds mighty fine here.
Boy howdy! I hadn't heard Joe's cover before, and this is a fave song. Leo Kottke's cover is also great. (and Bill's segue into SRV's 'Pipeline' was superb)
The transition into Pipeline rocks as well.

And why are we listening to Joe doing covers instead of his hundreds of other fine originals?

We are listening to this because of the ripping bass line. It rocks.

Laughter and Lust is one of his best works, IMHO. Thanks to whomever uploaded this. Nothing better than a cover that pays sincere homage to the original.
Couldn't agree more! An unfairly overlooked gem.

Excellent version-love the percussions in the background
I dunno. So far, no.
Definitely like this version.

Whoa...I think I'd rather hear Kottke's terrible voice over the WAY better musical background. I can't give this higher than a 2, because it sounds like a record pressed in cheese.
bery bery interesting
Vastly better than Kottke's aberration.
"I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin..." fairly accurate statement, joe, my boy... but a cool version, though...powerful - way better than leo kottke's!!
