Well the sun is burning down on the pavement
Money in the bank
I ain't gonna save it
Jenny's coming by
Hope she makes it
Jenny's coming by
And I sure hope she makes it

It's a summertime thing
Summertime thing

There's a party next door that sounds like it's cooking
I poked my head over the wall
Took a look in
There was a five piece band
They was really rockin'
Aww, looked like some kind of family reunion

Hey - It's a summertime thing
Summertime thing
Summertime thing
Summertime thing

Well that summer heat has got me feeling lazy
The air is warm and the sky is hazy
People getting down, getting crazy
Aww, people getting down, getting stupid, getting crazy

Hey, hey - it's a summertime thing
Summertime thing
It's a summertime thing
Summertime thing

Go ask your dad for the keys to the Honda
And can your sister come along, how could she not wanna
Put the Beach Boys on, wanna hear "Help Me Rhonda"
Aww, put the Beach Boys on, wanna hear "Help Me Rhonda"
Roll down the sides we'll drive to the delta
Take off our clothes and jump into the river
Ain't nobody around
Ain't nobody gonna see us
Aww, take off your clothes, jump into the river

Hey, hey - It's a summertime thing
Summertime thing
Summertime thing
Summertime thing

Check out Green on Red. CP was the guitarist
That guitar lick is definitely from the opening of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth"... and that's not a bad thing.

as summer songs go, I'll take this any day over that poser Kid Rock's mashup of Werewolves of London, Sweet Home in Alabama and Night Moves

Well it is the Sweet Jane chords.  Lou had probably heard them somewhere before.  This song ("Summertime Thing") sounds like a beer commercial or something, I don't think Lou was going for that.

LOL, the state of New York used this song in a commercial last year to promote summer tourism.
Yet another cool and talented musician churning out lotsa great tunes, but not getting the recognition he deserves. Kudos to RP for getting his music out there!

Something about that slide guitar and those deep, husky, sexy vocals... Gotta take a deep breath and get it together, because this song just drags me into another place where I could live forever...  What an incredible musical experience.  Loves me my Chuck Prophet... {#Sunny}

but days are getting longer in February and the promise of summer is there. In August the days are shorter and 'winter is coming'...

CP is a wonderful songwriter and very personable on stage. He and Stephanie, along with the Mission Express, put on a damn fine show every time.  Great to hear him on RP.
His tone reminds me of Beck.  Beck coming down with a cold.
Chuck rocks and puts on a very good live show.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I've got to beware

Think it's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Enough margaritas and this song would really work.
@mandolin It seems to happen every year ;)
This is really nice...
...summre again already?..wasn't it just summre last year?..

But this song is perfect for today in San Francisco - going up to 70 today, sunny, breezy.

And here we have -10 C / 14 F, clear blue sky, bright white snow about half a metre deep, and the trees are all covered in glittering white frost. Not really a summertime thing. But for my fellow RP listeners on the southern hemisphere it is of course a different story!

it's a high of 34 in Philadelphia

We saw Chuck play at a small club about a month ago. I was fortunate enough to run into him before the show and we swapped greetings and small talk. For some reason, later during the show, he pointed me out to the crowd and said I had been his little league coach.
I never did figure that one out.

I liked this song.

redtex:  You are probably old enough to be his little league coach; Chuck is an ordinary guy with a terrible memory for faces.

How about "That Summer Feeling" by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers?

ugh.. either sing or talk, one of the two. I'd have to put this in the "meh" category.
Heard this song while shopping at JC Penny's That's right...I'm a big spender. Anyway, sometimes great music comes out of strange places...keep your ears open.
Who cares if it isn't summer anymore? It's still pretty warm outside and Bill has got me back in Summer mode with his sequence of Sunny...Summertime...Things. Can't wait to see what's next!
great song. great live performer .. already have his November show at IOTA in Virginia on my calendar.
"Stop listen what's that sound..."
You probably also know his: I Bow Down and Pray To Every Woman I See
Wow, I wondered what happened to Bruce Hornsby...no, wait...
I like this song. It's catchy.
Summertime thang!
The name "Chuck Prophet" makes me lmao. Very decent tune IMO.
Ignoring the relative worth of the song completely -- Did he actually sing "Gina's coming by --hope she makes it"? That would make me so happy -- I've *never* heard a song with Gina in (pronounced "Jenna" : https://www.lintqueen.com/story.shtml)
Loving this again today - thanks, Bill!!

This guy had a concert a few years ago in Tampa that was something else. When he's on, he's really on.

This song is a few years old... I've been trying to find the artist info on it recently but could not recall who sang it... Cool tune.. I liked it the first time I heard it. Trust me... it won't be in an AE commercial.
It sounds nice....but by next summer, it'll be in an American Eagle commercial.

well put...I agree!
This a very solid CD from start to finish.
A very original sound to my ears. Nice to hear it again. It's close enough to summer; I need to listen to this a little more now.
