I Agree!!
"Say it ain't so, Joe."
I first heard this song on one of the Trance Planet CD releases (vol 3). I think it may have contained a translation of the lyrics. Love this song.

Listening to this just brings to light how much it still smarts that RP saw fit to kiss off my Savuka & Juluka uploads...cool Zulu folk that was not good enough...?
Have you considered that not doing so was probably not the fault of RP?  A royalty fee is paid by RP to every artist and/or their label for work posted.  If permission cannot be granted or is found for certain songs then 'no playeee'.  Oh, the world is cruel, I know.

There are about half a dozen people on this earth who can sing this well.  Wow...
This may be one of the single most brilliant vocal performances I have ever heard.  The sincerity in his voice is incredibly moving.

While it's not necessary to understand the language to appreciate the music, I would dearly love to find a transcription (NOT a translation) of the lyrics somewhere.  Anyone out there know of one?

There are at least two versions of this song readily available on CD. One where Wazimbo is accompanied by acousic guitar and another featuring more of the Orchestra Marrabenta Star De Mocambique, including bass, drums, horns, electric guitar etc. You can hear samples of each at Amazon.com: With acoustic guitar With Orchestra His record label has a mini biography and an early album available for purchase.
...so nice to hear on a calm morning... ^_^ ...by the way, this is the version from his album with orchestra marrabenta de mocambique, in fact i believe there's only one studio version out there... ...rebecca or bill must have stripped down the full artist field at some point for being too unwieldy; it was all there when they accepted the track into their library...just as well, really, since this particular track's just a one-off late night session wazimbo recorded by himself as a b-side...

How about the lead singer from Jane's Addiction? That's the voice that came to my head as I listened. StellarSwarm wrote:
Is it just me, or does it sound like he's singing a Pearl Jam song in a different language and key? I think this guy's voice is better, but definitely the intonation sounds very Pearl Jam like to me. This is what Eddie Vedder would sound like as a tenor.

Agree totally! Good music doesn't need lyrics to be understood, it has a power that transcends words.
perfect song for beginning an autumn day...
The words might be beyond me......but his voice just soars. Thank you for a truely lifting song this morning.

I am not sure any white boy could belt out this tune. A good bechmark for the soul singer.
What a racist thing to say. Try starting any sentence "I am not sure any black boy could..." and see if it strikes you as something a thoughtful person would say.

Nwahulwana = Nightbird There is another version of this song available somewhere featuring his group Orchestra Marrabenta Star De Mocambique. This has been one of my world music favorites since I first heard it back in 1998.
Beautiful!
Dreadful.
I got a Popssssscicle in m' bassssement for ya , Chrisssss.
Muy Bella
This one just made Bill ten bucks. As I listened to this I realized that there is no way in the world I would be exposed to this much cool music without RP.
Too Long

Isn't it a little early to be smoking... and how come you're not passing it around.
That was nice. You can play it as often as you like, please, Bill

Agreed. First time I hear this song. Just hope that the repetitive guitar accompaniment (that I like for the moment) does not get me eventually.

So nice!
I bought this song from iTunes immediately after hearing it for the first time.

Not sure what being or not being white has to do with belting out this tune. I'd lay odds that it has more to do with coming from Mozambique and learning how to sing in that style then the color of his skin.
