And so begins, begins our odyssey...
And we begin, begin our odyssey...
And so begins, begins our odyssey...

The aria is bleeding and the boyish voice is leaving.
I've been an evil tenor, I filled the innocent's doe-eyes with glue.
You're my only softness, you're my only pleasure, it's true.
And I never want to be your little friend, the abject failure.

And so begins, begins our odyssey...
And we begin, begin our odyssey...
And so begins, begins our odyssey...

The chrysalis is breaking and the superego's waking.
I've been a gloomy Petrarch, with a quill as weepy as Dido.
You're my mousy aesthete, you're my buoyant cherub, it's true.
And I never want to be your little friend, the abject failure.

The aria is bleeding and the boyish voice is leaving.
I've been an evil tenor, I filled the innocent's doe-eyes with glue.
You're my only softness, you're my only pleasure, it's true.
And I never want to be your little friend, the abject failure.

Reading this in Feb 2023, and was completely smacked when Helchat writes that this is new.  Life is funny like that.
Of Montreal is an American indie pop band from Athens, Georgia

Portugal. The Man is an American rock band from Wasilla, Alaska

DO NOT BELIEVE THESE BAND NAMES, PEOPLE
Always pleasantly surprised to hear Of Montreal on RP.   RP blows eclecticism out of the water.
nice guitar

we need more

Funny lyrics, but too cutesy by half. What's with "Alabee" in the title when they're clearly singing "Odyssey"?

Well, I wasn't planning to look at the lyric until I saw Shimmer's posting by chance (I'm tryin'a work, dang it!); so this 16-years-later response is per the great oracle Wikipedia:  The title of "So Begins Our Alabee" refers to the couple's daughter, Alabee Barnes...  An interesting odyssey, indeed, and quite far along by now!
When did not being able to sing become the signature sound requirement for the alt-electronic scene?

Totally! This would have been right at home, pumping out of the Scirocco as we cruised the Mall. See ya at Orange Julius!

Agreed. Of course, I really enjoy the other tune RP plays by them called Wraith Pinned To The Mist & Other Games. So I suppose I just dig their sound!
Yea, me two!! ">

I keep thinking of that song "I think I'm turning Japanese"

it's like combining elements of every crappy 80s synth band into one painful retro song. i hear it all in there: OMD, ABC, human league, the fixx, etc...
Oddly appealing.
OMD reborn
oh man this SUCKS!

Snappy! Outstanding.

More strangely retro pop.
Sounds like something old, but it's new......
The track reminds me of New Order a bit. Please play 'Wraith' again soon as well.
I originally started to like it, but on second thought it was not very good. It's over now, so let's get on with more music...
