Saw him in Chicago in 1984. He was fun then, and he's fun now. People that don't get his ideas probably think Andy Kaufman wasn't funny either. JR is just like a folk oriented Jimmy Buffett. A lot of misicians singing about day to day stuff. JR does it well.
'Roadrunner' almost says it all about Jonathan - the Lou Reed of pop silliness. As a Boston native, I drank the Modern Lovers tongue-in-cheek cool aid early on and therefore can be forgiven. And I say roadrunner once Roadrunner twice I'm in love with rock & roll and I'll be out all night

I love Lesbian bars a whole lot more than I do this tune!
Doesn't rise above the category of Novelty Song, and not a very good one, at that.
What a great song
I seriously couldn't get through the whole song. I am writing this after I switched my browser to KZAM to get rid of it. Wow, what a horrid song.

I seemed to have little trouble with a 2...perhaps you should try it? This is so poor, it's funny. Am I missing something?
Goofy! I love what his wordplay! I've never been into JR's music, but I can still appreciate him...

I don't get it. With the countless talented musicians in the world, guys like this get recording contracts? Sheesh. Sixth-grade stuff like this is one of the reasons I got out of the music business. Being good had no bearing on being successful then, and apparently that's still the case.
it's okay. there really is room for everyone.

He's had steady work for 35 years. Maybe you should recalibrate your talent meter. -------------------- I bought the Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock & Roll (way back when) and the chapter "New Wave: America" led off with a photo of Jojo doing his dorky dance. Then they talked about bands I'd heard of. Took me a while to get the significance of that, but eventually I went and bought some and sure enough, a lot of the music I loved could be traced back to him and his take on his influences (Velvets).

So long as my wife and I can dance here, too!
this is pretty funny and all but there is so much better stuff by jonathan richman that could have been played.

A trip to Charleston made me love JR. I love his song to his wife (Closer) and all of his other fun amazing brilliant songs! I had the opportunity to see him earlier this year and I am so glad I did. He sang in 3 languages and was so much fun! This song brought down the house.
nice groove, and off kilter lyrics = interested, and I dig it.

good thing you did get out of the music business... have you even heard of the Modern Lovers?

Very strange yet compelling song. Don't really know what to make of it. Are the lyrics about the first part and the second part about his evening at the bar or about his song? I guess it doesn't matter. I'm just happy he got a chance to dance.

Such a sweet song about tolerance and freedom of spirit, as only Jonathan can sing it. My darling maryte's upload; thanks to Rebecca and Bill for adding it! "There's something about Mary...that they don't know."
Not tolerance, dear - acceptance!
