Guess you had to be there, and I was.
This really stuck out on the airwaves compared to the rest... :)

Except maybe Svetlana playing bass while the surf music plays.  Check out the Messer Chups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkmQPOY6cKc if you want more surf music.

Did Nirvana sample this?

  +1 for the SS reference !! {#Cheers}

Duane Eddie - A genius. If you trash this tune. you have no idea when it was made and the revolution that it started.
All of you doubters...stay with U2!
Or maybe, One Direction is more your speed{#Cheers}
Key changes in songs bug me. They basically say to the listener, "Well, that's all there is. So we're just gonna play all the same stuff again, but a half step higher. Maybe it will sound new to you again."

Respect to Duane Eddy. Still, key changes are mostly disappointing. :-)

Back in 68 whenever Rebel Rouser came on  my 66 GTO I would stop on the accelerator and kick in the 3 2 bbl carbs and take off
Thanks!

You mean the Yakety Sax tune he used for so many skits.

Ha!  All that trailer needs is a Visa/ Master Card sign on it and it would fit right in on Highway 95 in Nevada.

True story; My wife and I used to drive 95 from below Las Vegas to above Reno.  On one of the first trips along that long lonely highway as we went by the "Pink Lady Ranch" my wife commented, "What a nice name for a ranch, but I wonder why they accept Visa/MC."  I just kept my mouth shut for a minute or so and then said, "I don't know, maybe on the way back we can stop in and see what they are selling."  She made the standard half approval noise and we kept on driving.  Then about 10 miles down the road she smacked me and said "You knew didn't you!!"  At that point I couldn't keep a straight face anymore.

We didn't stop on the way back...

Your wife sounds like a very sweet woman. A little naive maybe but...
I'm waiting for this to show up in a Tarantino flick.

Well, YOU'RE still alive - shouldn't we afford the same mercy to classics? This is Duane Eddy - if one of the founders of rock and roll offends your tender sensibilities, I suggest (very respectfully) that you go listen to some FM station. Any one will do - they all sound the same, but it probably won't matter to you.

Ann could be brutal, huh?
Oh yea. 'Saxy Cowboyz'
5th Form Thursday lunch at Dartford Tech 1961 we had a music club, this was always played by Perkins. Always.
Makes me think of Benny Hill.......
That's the way RP the original version.

Unlike the Eilen Jewell that preceded it.

First song I ever tried to play on a friend's dad's guitar 50 years ago. Sucked then, suck now, but still enjoy trying.

This predates the "surf" genre probably by a good five years. No matter. Still a 10 in my book.

Thanks for including Duane Eddy on the playlist. Another great jukebox tune.
My wife is always critical of singers who resort to reverb to cover up their weak voices. I used this tune to prove that sometimes reverb is a good thing.

Hell, a great thing!

Great tune!{#Bananajam}

I love this and love the 'Stereo' symbol on the album cover. Go Duane!

Yay!  Chair boogie!
Good follow-up song would be "Hag" from the Breeder's "Last Splash" album. Check it out, similar guitar riff. And a cool song, I might add!!
Just when you think you've heard it all on RP, Bill comes up with another nugget. Great! Thank you.
This is great! Grew up listening to this. Mom still has the original vinyl.

Correct, he set up a recorder at one end of a huge vessel and played his guitar at the other end - gives it that almost reverb sound, which is actually an echo that bounces back to the mic.
Very cool. But, given that description, I'd say that's more reverb then reverb in that it's the actual recording of sound reflection as opposed to the modeling of it in digital or the faking of it with springs/plates.

I don't believe so. It is not listed on the soundtrack if it was in the film.

Great era for music. This ranks up there with rumble by Link Wray for bad ass 50's instrumentals.

psh, I think this song rocks my socks.

I thought this was a bit cheesy when it was first released. It still is.
Any music from the 50's and early 60's (well almost, I have to draw the line at Pat Boone and Anita Bryant) is always appreciated. Keep it coming! Am I the only one who hears parts of "CC Rider" in this?
Is it okay to admit that I only heard of Duane Eddy through Art of Noise? Back in 1986. Darn, it's a beautiful day out, this is playing, and now I want to go surfing, though I never have before. Surfed, that is.
My upload--thanks to B&R for adding it! A famous rock instrumental, often covered by other artists, though Duane Eddy was the *original* king of twang. Duane was one of the first rock stars of the lp album era; this is from his first and most highly regarded lp. His guitar sound is of course also very influential--you hear its echoes in everything from Santo and Johnny to Calexico.
