I need love, love
To ease my mind
I need to find, find someone to call mine
But mama said

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
You got to trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

But how many heartaches
Must I stand before I find a love
To let me live again
Right now the only thing
That keeps me hangin' on
When I feel my strength, yeah
It's almost gone
I remember mama said:

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

How long must I wait
How much more can I take
Before loneliness will cause my heart
Heart to break?

No I can't bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that I, I can't go on
These precious words keeps me hangin' on
I remember mama said:

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

No, love, love don't come easy
But I keep on waiting
Anticipating for that soft voice
To talk to me at night
For some tender arms
To hold me tight
I keep waiting
I keep on waiting
But it ain't easy
It ain't easy
But mama said:

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said to trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

well, maybe.  great songs and singing craft and performance chops.  But they didn't write their own tunes or play the instruments.  Motown, though, likes what you say.

Why the gun? What possible relevance does this have - at least from a European perspective.

I wouldn't worry too much.
It'd take him 15 minutes just to load that antiquated musket.
Probably longer than it took him to butcher this classic tune.
A treasured staple of my high school dances.  Nice memories ... but so, so naive to feel these lines so deeply at age 15:
No I can't bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that I, I can't go on

Yes!  Some A side mowtown is priceless, and I would think some B sides would really appeal to the RP universe.

One of the best things about Radio Paradise is that you never really know what genre is coming next. To be critical because you feel that any given song does not fit the "format" is absurd. Some better than others, but to suggest that a song "does not belong" says that your taste is perhaps a little narrow and needs to be broadened! I couldn't disagree more strongly. This song sounds good today and even at that it represents an entire genre that has lead to so many excellent developments. I love it! I gave it a 9.

And yet three of your highest rated songs are Miles Davis, Neil Young and Beethoven... I'm not sure how Beethoven qualifies as a 'NEW great sound' but you might want to rethink your criticism.

To people who have heard a lot of good music during their lifetime, those songs are annoying immediately. It's disposable music, which is evidenced by the fact that in my country, you don't hear any of those songs older than 6 months on the radio anymore, ever. Nobody wants to hear that stuff anymore, because it's no longer 'hip' and often, that's all there was to it....
Well said. The more records sold, the more commercials that air, the more crap that is recorded....on and on and on.
Stefen wrote:
Why is it that decades-old fempop is okay but current fempop is not?
I guess because this is old and has attained the status of "elder stateswoman." I really don't see much difference between the merits of this song and just about any Top 10 hit from Britney Spears. Both are fun to listen to and dance to, but lack any real artistic merit beyond that. Like candy--it's fine every once and awhile but I wouldn't want to consume only that all day long.
say what you will - The Supremes rate (in my book, anyway) as one of the top girl groups of all time. Fun, fun, fun. Now, everybody, get up and dance!

This comparison disregards the piles of trash that was produced back then as well, thrash that we don't remember because of the exact same reasons you put forth about current music. Certainly, it is easier than ever to mass produce trash that make pleasing but forgettable noises to kids. Nonetheless good tracks keep popping up and they will be ones that we play in five or twenty years, still moaning about the modern noises in corp radio.

You're joking, right? If not, you seem to be missing the whole point of Radio Paradise. If you want to hear music like that, just tune in on any commercial stream or FM radio station. Of course they won't play anything older than 6 months ~ 1 year from those artists, and I'll explain why. Most current (fem)pop, at least from the 'artists' you mentioned, is shallow fluff designed to sound good to teenagers the first 2 times they hear it, and then become annoying very quickly so they'll want to buy new singles often. To people who have heard a lot of good music during their lifetime, those songs are annoying immediately. Nobody wants to hear that stuff anymore, because it's no longer 'hip' and often, that's all there was to it. Seriously, if Bill would play "Wind it up" from GS, all other songs would need to be re-rated to 10 to keep the rating system in equilibrium, or he'd need to add a "-10 - I want to kill the DJ for playing this" rating.

Good Heavens! That has caused me to reduce my rating on this song from 9 to 7. Anything that contributed to "Abracadabra" being written is a crime against music. I love much Steve Miller, but "Abracadabra" is a strong contender for the worst song ever award, imho.

Perhaps it's a mistake to equate all pop songs sung by female singers? The motown sound marks a distinct and interesting period in american music and maybe Bill likes it more then some of the current artists you named.

I've never been much of a Diana Ross fan, but I do love the music on all the Supremes songs. This gets an 8 because the Funk Brothers rule and Florence Ballard deserved a better fate than the one she received.

Same here. Hearing them singing made me think that there are many other songs from, for example Motown classis, but only few are played, like Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, George Benson etc. I would love to hear more smooth tracks from the 60's and 70's.
