if we can call them friends we can call them on red telephones
and they won't pretend that they're too busy or they're not alone
if we can call them friends we can call
holler at 'em down these hallowed halls
just don't let the human factor fail to be a factor at all

don't
don't you worry
about the atmosphere
or any sudden pressure change

'cause I know
that it's starting
to get warm in here
and things are
starting to get strange

and did you
did you see how
all our friends were there
drinkin' roses from the can

how
how I wish I
I had talked to them
and wished they
fit into my plan

and we were tired of being mild
oh so tired of being mild
we were so tired

I know we're gonna meet someday in the crumbled financial institutions of this land
there will be tables and chairs
pony rides and dancing bears
there'll even be a band
'cause listen after the fall there'll be no more countries
no currencies at all
we're gonna live on our wits
throw away survival kits
trade butterfly knives for adderal
and that's not all
woah!
there will be snacks, there will
there will be snacks!

is this kid's music?
this guy is a talented musician, for sure, but this belongs on nick jr, along with his "dr string" song which is already there.  {#Cowboy}
Andrew Bird is an artist much better enjoyed live.  His music just does not seem to translate well when recorded.  I saw him as an opener and liked him much more than the artist he opened for.  He is an amazing performer.
Lyrics are straight-up retarded.
Does not sound like Slayer
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!{#Dancingbanana}
I'm sorry, I just don't like this guy's music.  I've given him the BOD, but this is inane childish crap. . .

For what it's worth, Scythian Empires off of Armchair Apocrypha will only reinforce what seem to be the polarized prevailing attitudes about Andrew Bird: 1. He's an uber-talented musician with a penchant for catchy, unique lyrics. 2. He's a pretty versatile musician who can cherry pick weird phrases to cover up for the fact that there's no there there.

or, 3. He's simply a run-of-the-mill musician who writes lyrics and sings.

This keeps coming close to being on the verge of being a good song but keeps shying away instead

As long as there will be snacks, it's all good.

He sounds like himself....and they (Rufus and Andrew) do sound similar.
Sounds like he's trying to sound like Rufus Wainwright...
Also, he under-enunciates his words as if he's on quaaludes and has a mouthful of cottonballs.
Is it just me, or does this remind you of Talking Heads?

I'd have to be in the latter group. I can't find anything special about his songs at all. In the same category as Sufjan Stevens... I really can't figure out what all the fuss is about.

Well, I'll give him this: He's produced a masterful example of the word banal with this "song".

I gave it a 6 instead of a 5 because I like the cover art.
Reminds me of Red House Painters.
speaking of snacks....his new album "Armchair Aphocrapha" (think that's how you spell), is totally snackable...get into it!!!

Really digging this one. First listen for me and I find it most excellent...don't know why. Also, he has a bit of a Lou Barlow quality to his voice, no?
I kinda like it!
cool cover – not sure about the song, though. I think I'll start with a 5.

No, but I would want them to spell his name correctly. And I'm not being sarcastic. Irony is overused. It's too often employed, as in this case, to falsely imply depth. I mean it.

You would prefer a t-shirt advertising a beer, softdrink, sports team?

did somebody say xylophone?
This song smells of The Postal Service, Death Cab, etc...maybe it's the xylophone, maybe it's the sickly sweatness of the music, maybe it's the way it makes me want to strangle small creatures...
A nice sheen of apparent depth. I give it a 2.

How can you fail to be kooky, if you really intend to? And if it isn't, then how do you know that's what he was trying to do? Isn't it just as likely he intended to be dead serious? Oh yes, and I am also partial to snacks. I am going to look for one right now.
snacks...excellent! the singer sounds (to me) quite a bit like the guy in Red House Painters, esp. at the beginning of this song before it speeds up. that's a compliment, I love the RHP.
Tries oh so hard to be kooky. Fails.
LOVELY! My friend saw Mr. Bird with Ani a year or so back...she played this CD for me, and raved about what an amazing musician he was. (If I recall correctly, she said he played all of the instruments you hear in his songs). Awesome.
Yeah...thanks for playing this! I never heard of this song (or this artist, for that matter) but this is rich, strong, and alarming...and well sung. Sounds like our global warming future to me. Maybe. Not sure. Probably have to hear it a few more times. I could be projecting... littleRoom wrote:
