Well, now then Mardy Bum
I've seen your frown and it's like looking down the barrel of a gun
And it goes off
And out come all these words
Oh, there's a very pleasant side to you
A side I much prefer

One that's laughs and jokes around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen, yeah
To get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Aw, but it's right hard to remember that
On a day like today
When you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on

Well, now then, Mardy Bum
Oh, I'm in trouble again, aren't I?
I thought as much
'Cause you turned over there
Pulling that silent disappointment face
The one that I can't bear

Well, can't we just laugh and joke around?
Remember cuddles in the kitchen, yeah
To get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it's right hard to remember that
On a day like today
When you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on

Yeah, I'm sorry I was late
But I missed the train
And then the traffic was a state
And I can't be asked to carry on in this debate
That reoccurs, oh, when you say I don't care
But of course I do, yeah, I clearly do

So laugh and joke around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen, yeah
To get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it's right hard to remember that
On a day like today
When you're all argumentative
And you've got the face on

mmm cake-y :)
I like this cd, but this is one of my least favorite tracks... But the lyrics are pretty funny. "Oh, but it's right hard to remember That on a day like today when you're all argumentative And you've got the face on"
Dig it!!
this track is cute. i heard an excellent remix of this with some other pop tune over top. it's rather enjoyable, honestly.

It would sure beat having to hear this....Bob Rules! He's Batman you know?
As overrated as hell!!!! "Dancefloor" is incredible - the rest next to disappointing! Stingray!
thanks for the explanation... Arthur_Two_Sheds wrote:

"Mardy bum" is colloquial ( northern ) English slang and translates as an affectionate term for a close friend who is being short tempered or angry. The word 'mardy' means (sort of) angry, and the addition of the suffix 'bum' reduces the impact of the adjective and adds a degree of familiarity to the phrase. The girl in the song is angry at the man for being late and his litany of excuses cut no ice with her. He is acknowledging her feelings and trying not to provoke her further. In my experience, the phrase is mainly used in Yorkshire. I used to live in Sheffield and one of the joys of listening to this band is the unashamed use of local references which take me back to when I used to live there. Isn't learning about another culture a journey of discovery?
I wish Massive Attack would do the same thing and use expressions like "'ark at 'ee", "allrights me luvver" and "gurt lush".

What is this crap??
It's weird to hear this after Rosanne Cash.
More crud from this bunch, Bill? Do we have to listen to them 2x a day? I know I can hit the mute button, but really, this group is rubbish and only deserves an eclectic 1x month play.
Hey! No smoking!
vocals by Brad Nowell
One of the smarter songs in a long while -- great lyrics.

I have an alternate version of this song which is louder than this one which I like a lot more than this version. I'm ranking my version at an 8. This RP version gets a weak 7.
Great call, I was wondering why I was marginally less pumped to hear this song. Only marginally: 9 without question.
not appealing at all musically...

Yes please.
Didn't like the first single (something about looking good on the dancefloor)...but everything I've heard on RP is growing on me.

meh...I don't get the hype.

I want to see what this guys come up with next... considering their age. very talented folks.
Sounds like The Strokes on this one...
These guys get a ton of hype and put together a good album. No better than either of The Libertines first two though, and quite similar...
Personally, this band are perhaps the most over-rated thing to appear this year. Very disappointing, but this track stands out as an insight into how people really speak in Britain. WOnderful lyrics and a great riff. The only decent song on the album.
sorry i just have to hit the kill button on this wreck
Can't get enough. Just you wait, the more you hear the more you'll be crying out for their next release.
These guys got a rave review in The New Yorker. I'm liking them, but not knocked out.
I'm liking a whole lot of these guys.
They're obviously Northern for using the word 'mardy' :D

Can't believe I never heard of these guys before. Once again, thanks RP for broadening my musical horizons.

Wow folks! Decent constructive communication! I like this song much better now!!
I just read something yesterday about how hugely hyped this band is in Europe. I was thinking I hadn't heard of them yet. And here it is! Seems ok, I'll need a few more listens I guess.
