Hush now, don't you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over... or has it just begun?

There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly you hear and see
This magic new dimension

I...will be watching over you
I...am gonna help you see it through
I...will protect you in the night
I...am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity

I can't do this
Visualize your dream
Record it in the present tense
Put it into a permanent form
If you persist in your efforts
You can achieve dream control
Dream control
How's that then, better?
Help me

If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once, you learn
You're safe from the pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but...

I...will be watching over you
I...am gonna help to see it through
I...will protect you in the night
I...am smiling next to you...

I was sure this was Pink Floyd when it first came on the radio. Mystical like Pink Floyd and the singer sounded a little like Roger Waters. Took forever to learn to sing AND play this song on the guitar!
I ain't askeert!

Indeed.  Troubadours.  Who knew?!?  😉

I'm guessing Bill's done this before, Sounds of Silence followed by Silent Lucidity.  Pretty good combo too, both in context and music.

Exactly brother!!

Pretty defining song/album for my high school experience. I think it's stood the time better than most 90's metal.

Of course, if you listen to the spoken word bit at the end, it gets pretty hokey. It reminds me of "Dinner for Schmucks":

"I have something better than mind control...BRAIN control!!!"

This song was never heard in the '80s. The song was released August 20th, 1990.  It was released as a single in 1991 and charted at #1 that year in the US, where it received a ton of airplay at the time.   Silent Lucidity was easily one of the biggest hits of the '90s.

"Silent Stupidity"  A 4-year-old could have come up with that weak pun.

You're being a bit nit picky there, eh? The power ballad trend peaked at the end of the '80s. '91 is just a little past that point.

Dismissing a song because some kid made a pun of the title is pretty absurd tho. I'll agree with that one.
This is giving me Pink Floyd.. awesome 8!
everytime i hear this song --  immediately think of pink floyd's comfortably numb.
Please follow this with Charles Dumont! Such a perfect mix. I mean from aside the obvious, Queen. ;)

I never really had a problem with this song, though I knew it was just an obligatory rock ballad that seemed mandatory in the '80's. But a girl I knew once referred to it as "Silent Stupidity" and it was over for me and this track.

In my opinion, one of the finest songs from early 90s. I've listened to it over and over again and still gets me chills. GREAT!

Was this really considered "Heavy Metal" back in the day? Sounds more "aluminum"-like to me.

Yea, Queensryche were kind of "Metal" when they came out in 1983, which is why we, my friends and I, bought in.  They were a bit too prog for me, even though I love 70's Prog rock.  This tune is good, but like most radio songs was played to death.  This is hardly rock, too.
I think is an absolutely beautiful and moving song about "somebody close to you leaving the game of life."

Well...{#Yes}{#Roflol}

This was huge, though, when it came out (in '91 actually, not the 80s). Queensryche won some music award for this.

This was song was of an age that's come and gone (like a lot of ponderous Yes songs from the 70s that someone had previously compared to this one). You get to go back in time when you listen to "Silent Lucidity", but you don't have to go. Your current musical bearings and appreciation would be lacking something if "Silent Lucidity" got winkled out of your long-term memory, though.

(OK...not a lot of something...could fit in between your molars...but still).

Oh and look: three songs later and Bill is playing Yes' "And You And I" from  '72's "Close to the Edge."  Dewd!
thanks Bill
EEEK, this is not nice!!! {#Naughty}
Wow, this sends me straight back to college. The roommate who turned me on to this, also turned me on to _Nevermind_... a momentous year...
é muita linda! thanks RP (y)
Wow, an unexpected  blast from the past.  Always liked this song.

One wonders if Kiss' "Beth" is coming up in the rotation...
{#Music}
More Queensrÿche! I guess I have not quite been on RP long enough to hear this here. Pretty much burned up the groves on my Empire vinyl.
Wow shocked to hear this on RP (seems like it might be played once every 10 years or so though...last comments from 2006), takes me back, the 80's were high school for me and I actually paid money to see Queensryche live (big mistake, it was in a small arena and just shrilling sounds bounced around, my ears hurt for days).

LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! (love the band, too...more, please)

Bill, you rock dude! Thx
Ick. Songs like this are why I listened to punk rock in the first place...plus the beginning seems to be Pink Floyd copy.
Aside from the fact that it was played to death on commercial stations, it's nice to hear this song here on RP. Personally, I'd prefer to hear Empire from the same album this song was on, but this is a nice break from some of the other genres played here. (Particularly the genres I don't care for. )
Haha this is AWESOME! Long live the 80's and rock ballads....
get the lighters out folks...classic
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved Bill's comments on this one. I do believe there was a clause in every 80s hair metal band's record contract stating that they must produce at least one cheesy ballad that sounds nothing like the rest of their songs.
This tradition dates back to at least the 70's with bands like Aerosmith and Kiss. "You See Me Crying", "Beth", etc.

Quite a heavy album for this crowd, but Seasons in the Abyss is still a great listen!

Yup, this is kinda akin to Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan, or Led Zep's No Quarter. The band rocks, and rocks hard, but this is probably their slowest, pop-iest material, and not really a good indication of their real range of musical expression.

Wait, I meant Jet City Woman... that's it. Still bad late 80's, early 90's hesher music but at least I never minded that one quite as much. Probably because it reminded me of LA Woman. Just a guess.
wow! surprised...but I've always really liked this tune.

MAKE IT STOP!
Bill threw this in to see if we are paying attention! Gotta stir up the pot a little sometimes.
Echos of Spinal Tap The group "Yes" but more pondering self-importance and less listen-worthy IMHO, of course...
Total suckage - I'm forced to give it a 1

Man, I love Wikipedia: wikipedia wrote:
Queensrÿche frontman Geoff Tate stated, "The umlaut over the 'y' has haunted us for years. We spent eleven years trying to explain how to pronounce it."
And I don't know about you, but wouldn't "Röck Döts" (with or without umlauts) be an excellent name for a rock band?

Hilarious! Second only to FSM as my favorite Wikipedia entry.
Operation Mindcrime was a fun album. I'd love to hear some stuff from that one.

Looks like I was the first person to give this a 1. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. Bob

This is a surprise!
this is great. One of the few songs from a metal band that I like! I was going to upload this a long time ago but thought... NO WAY...it will never get accepted.
Here's one I haven't heard in ages. Never thought I'd hear it here, either.
Haven't heard this one in a long time. I was never a Queensryche fan, but this one I have always enjoyed.
Holy hair band, Batman! What a flashback to 80s big hair radio, which my hometown station embraced for far too long. Oh, and nice umlaut
