What remains of the day remains to be seen
By the TV that we never turn on
Each other's enough I never had it so rough
Ever since I been gone

White noise swells in my head
Making me worry it's the summertime
But it's the dead of the fall it's the dead of the night
Hell yes I mind

CHORUS:
I would give anything not to feel so jagged
I'd give anything not to feel so jagged
I'd give anything not to feel so jagged

I couldn't drink enough to make this make sense
But I think I'm gonna give it a try
There's no settling down there's only driving downstate
So I drive

REPEAT CHORUS

OUTRO:
I'd give anything not to feel so jagged

Rhett Miller and the Old 97s never disappoint
He just means he could really go for a blunt, right?

I won tickets to see Rhett and the '97s play in Minneapolis 2/20/11, but having to commute from 2+ hours away decided to cancel the trip.

14+ inches of fresh snow and 30 mph wind gusts played a role in that decision.

You should forward this on to Rhett at his site—maybe he could swing by Central Minny with the boys and play a make-up show for you at some point.

Denton was home to Slobberbone too.    Must be in the water....

Love the 97s. Terrific band. Classic American rock, updated.

Yeah, that crunchy guitar gives it a C.H. feel.

The guitar sound and solo are similar to that Crazy Horse sound, but the vocals and the over-all melody are very different.  Good tune.

Awesome stuff! My favorite Dallas export and fellow Texans - the always great Old 97's!  RP needs more tracks from them - especially from the "Too Far to Care", "Wreck Your Life", and "Hitchhike to Rhome" albums.

Great album.

It does sound like Neil on guitar. Maybe that's why I like this song so much. Reminds me of when I worked at an Indie record store here in Portland and these guys did an in-store when touring for this album. Nice guys.

yeah, Ken rocks this tune. I'd love it a bunch if I could mute Rhett's vocals from it.

Old comment, but I see you're still around. Was that Music Millennium on 23rd? Man I miss that place. So many great artists performed in that comfy space, like they were in your living room (and free!).

that'll get your toes tappin

Oh Yeah - EXACTLY what I was thinking.  Oh this sounds great!  and then ewwww.
A little sandpaper should do the trick...
I was really identifying with the song, when I thought the line was "I'd give anything not to feel so jackassed".

I've never heard that phrase, Kurt. It's a goodie. Is that yours? Nice turn of words. Alt Country got passe as a buzzword anyway.

I think I saw that mentioned in the No Depression magazine a long while back. It describes this type of music the best.

im pretty sure i declared this my anthem a few years ago when things were getting rough in my life. I used to jam the song in my iPod while walking between classes. I think it really did help. Havent listened to this since then. Apparently, I still really like it.

every time i hear old 97s here, i think, why isn't there anything from Rhett Miller's solo efforts The Instigator or The Believer? probably my fault as i haven't uploaded anything to the LRC, ever.
Go 97's. Rock w/ Billy.
7 > 8 I really really like this song!!

Anything by Old 97's! One of my all-time fave bands. Seen 'em a few times since they're from Denton (north of Dallas) and gigged here a lot back in the day. Love these guys. c.

Roseann Cash's "Burn Down This Town" would be a good follow-up.
I don't see a lot of live shows, but I broke cover to see these guys.
Positively serrated.
Ahhhh.....just that opening riff alone... Everyone sing at the top of your lungs..."I......WOULD GIVE ANYTHING..."
Gonna have to drag this CD out and listen to it again. And again, and again...
An outstanding, energetic live band. Do *not* miss them if they come your way.
Never cared much for the Old 97s, but this one gets me movin'. Nice Neil Young guitar track holding the whole thing together.
Thank you Bill G and Rebecca!!! Doesn't this ROCK?? Stephie, I dedicate my upload to YOU baby! Seeing as Rhett is your betrothed and all...
