Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove

Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of

Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above

Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn

Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove

Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Love it, Ella Fitzgerald-ish.
Another cover!?!?!?
I had no idea this was a Leonard Cohen track.
Thanks Bill
What a voice and what a gal
If I can get Cohen's voice out of my head I will love this more!
Gosh - what a beautiful voice.  Channeling Billie to me.
Thanks Bill...
involking yet fresh
Thank-you, Madeleine
Beautiful.
Life affirming

Thank You for the info.
Pretty damn photo too.
Most wonderful!
SUPERB!!
What a voice- it's every bit as timeless and towering as the song she's singing. Outstanding.
theres some nice monk stuff going on here
And next we have something from Metal and Peru? Oh... Dance Me to The End Of Language, please!

Wow. What a fabulous rendition of a classic Cohen song. I was working hard and then this song captivated me.

The popularity of this is a mystery to me (although clearly not to others). Skip...
please be over soon!
Love the sound of her 's' and 't'. Shimmying plush percussion. Sleuthing piano.

Both this and Leonard's original are splendid.
Possibly even splendiferous, but I'm not committing to that yet.

Yes indeed. We miss what you added to our music, Leonard.
Wow, love this.

She has turned art from the master into Elevator Music.
Sounds like Billie Holiday singing Leonard Cohen. Too bad Elon Musk didn't choose to make a time machine instead of rockets to Mars {#Hearteyes}
not
How many great songs did Leonard do! Wonderful{#Notworthy}
I usually do not like alternate arrangements of Leonard Cohen songs.  This, though, is magnificent, keeping so well to the integrity of the words/music.

Jazz is my cup of tea, and I hate this
quite likable, I'll tag it with a 7
One of the songs from the excellent film 'V for Vendetta'.
Incredible, evocative, surreal interpretation of LC's brilliant gem echoing the voice of Billie Holliday and the wacky keys of Yo La Tengo.
Well i have to say that it feels strange listening to this now.
Nice but still I prefer Lenard Cohens live version
This and pink martini, excellent

Wow, I thought this was Billie Holiday.
Do I hear some "Salt Peanuts" in this, as well?
Jazz is not my cup of tea, but I love this {#Ask}
Any chance you can add the Carolyn Sills Combo rendition of this song (or anything they play, really)

Always loved this track from 2004's Careless Love! :)

Welcome to the EPCOT Billie Holiday Experience
Blow me (away) again baby. Anytime.
i could listen to more
I still think she is the grand daughter of Ella Fitzgerald.

beautiful ...

edit: I understand Madeleine may be focusing on her own songwriting these days, but it sure would be grand if she were to do an entire album of Leonard Cohen songs. What marvelous interpretive possibilities!

Nicely produced album ... the echoes of Billie Holiday's voice hit a sweet spot! {#Cheers}
Couldn't disagree more. This song demands Mr. Cohen's voice.

Absolutely delicious lyrics. Mr. Cohen.

Never would have guessed that this was Leonard's doing. Madeleine makes this song playful...not sure Cohen could pull that off these days, with a voice that's turned into an ashtray.
I saw her last month at the Montreal Jazz fest and it was a very disappointing show, although her band was pretty good.
LOVE her voice!
This entire album is a treasure! Sound quality is audiophile quality!
I just bought tickets to see her next month in Montreal at the Jazz festival
very BillieHoliday-ish in my opinion...and I like it!
Perfect in every way....The song not your mittens

Glad I read further down the posts before I wrote something repetitive.  I was going to go with mittens, though.

What's a glove got to do with it?  What's a glove but a five-fingered mitten?
Nice version of this tune.
This is so catchy, really like it
Not my taste!

Certainly more enjoyable than famous blue raincoat as done by jennifer warnes. Probably about even with judy collins' version of that same raincoat, in my opinion.

Not really "interpretations" if that's the way he wrote them.

Oh I'm sorry, I've really tried to like her, but since Katie Melua came around this backward-looking jazz seems increasingly pointless. Other commentators have pointed out her similarity to Billie Holiday, but Madeleine Peyroux's incredibly weak last note on this unimaginative rendition of Leonard Cohen's rather enjoyable romp is, in my extremely humble (and prepared to be proved wrong) opinion, a terrible let-down. I truly regret...

I checked out  Katie Melua. She is a very good singer but I don't think she is so good that she make the entire genre pointless. There seem to be a lot of interesting retro jazz singers coming out these days. Many seem to be using different models from the past greats. A lot of them are getting well deserved air time (IMHO) here.
Never actually liked Cohen's interpretations of his own songs.

 Really enjoyed this

 Perhaps without Madeleine, we would have been different (worse).
But she is with us. {#Good-vibes}
Only positive emotions!

anywhere, lady.......great keyboard too
{#Bananapiano} oh yes I do like this....
It's good but it's just not Leonard.
Reminds me a lot of Billie Holiday. Very cool.
ou la la, c'est tres jolie! {#Cheers}

Mniam mniam! lovely voice :)

I want to hear ore of her.  I want her to be as famous as her unique voice demands...

Nicely done. However, did she really add anything to Leonard Cohen's (the song's writer) original version except a female voice? Not much of a novel cover, imo.

They get major kudos, they changed it up a bunch.  The way that Cohen plays it, especially in concert, is almost like a slow polka, almost like a borderline mournful klezmer band.  He keeps it straight ahead 2/4 time and plays it even.  This cover swings!  You can tell Peyroux and her band are really enjoying the material and that care shows!  They've earned a very solid '9' from me!
Touch me with your glove?
any alley, anytime.....{#Hearteyes}

I keep thinking that this is Melody Gardot when I hear her...  But that's OK!
great voice.....{#Dancingbanana}{#Bananasplit}{#Bananapiano}{#Bananajam}{#Drummer}.....hot band
Not my taste, this big band sound!
Just noticed myself swaying back and forth in my office chair while I work on taxes....  nice little escape!

This is another of those artists that I know my parents would love, if they were still alive.  So, I'll just have to love her FOR them.  She's got such a sexy, sleek voice - rich with nuance.  I also love that she doesn't need a zillion instruments - a piano, an upright bass, and her voice are just the right combination for magic.

Yum.{#Meditate}{#Sunny}

Miss you so much, Cynaera...

Yummy!
I love this set.
very nice jazz voice!  very cool song. 9 points :-)
Wow, more, and more again, and then smack with it one more time because, yanno, wow.
I prefer the original version bij Leonard Cohen...
Saw Madeleine earlier this year in NYC.  She opened up for Judy Collins.  Thought Madeleine was the headliner of the show.  She only played about a 40 minute set, and we left after she was done.  She was wonderful to see live.  Looking forward to seeing her again in the future, hopefully as the headliner of a concert so it's longer.  Love her music.

Here french stuff is far better.  I saw her in concert once but she was not comfortable on stage, probably because she was in montreal and she couldn't speak french that well.
