Vacate is the word...vengeance has no place on me or her
Cannot find the comfort in this world
Artificial tear...vessel stabbed...next up, volunteers
Vulnerable, wisdom can't adhere...
A truant finds home...and a wish to hold on...
But there's a trapdoor in the sun...

Immortality...

As privileged as a whore...victims in demand for public show
Swept out through the cracks beneath the door
Holier than thou, how?
Surrendered...executed anyhow
Scrawl dissolved, cigar box on the floor...
A truant finds home...and a wish to hold on too...
He saw the trapdoor in the sun...

I cannot stop the thought...I'm running in the dark...
Coming up a which way sign...all good truants must decide...
Oh, stripped and sold, mom...auctioned forearm...
And whiskers in the sink...
Truants move on...cannot stay long
Some die just to live...
Ohh...

Excellent segue from Simon & Garfunkel’s live version of American Tune!  Well played RP!

Couldn’t agree more!
I’m not into shelling out good money on a live album only to hear half wits screaming their fucking lungs out😒
wow...not a good version of this song imo :/

KUDOS to stagehands!!!   They  make music happen!!!  They  build the the stage, assist the sound and light companies (doing MOST of the assembly work)  & last but not least, assist the riggers, suspending  the speakers and lighting system from the ceiling!!!

Right?! I was at a Paul Simon concert at Wa Mu Theater in Seattle, soaking in the 'The Sound of Silence' when some Yahoo just had to yahoo for all of us to hear.  It's The Sound of f***ing Silence for God's sake!!
Love, love, LOVE this live version!

I agree.  I try to avoid live recordings, usually sub-par overspeed performances marred by screaming.  But to me what's worse is the pandering to the crowds by bored singers.  Given all that there are some bands that are only at their best live.  But there is no reason with direction mics for the crowd to be this upfront.

That is because they added a special "crowd mic" to the recording!  It works for some bands and not others.  Emerson, Lake & Palmer's Pictures at an Exhibition had a good crowd mic!

Zenhead, it is obvious the drugs are having an effect on some in the crowd!

I see where you're coming from, especially from a listener of a live recording point of view. But as an amateur rock musician, stirring people enough to cheer me on while I play is pretty cool. Granted, for other, quieter genres like classical, maybe not so much. But Pearl Jam definitely qualifies as rock, and I'd hazard a guess that McReady probably dug it.
Eddie's vocal is bigger than life

Your problem may be more with the mixing of this live album. Ever been to an early 1990's Pearl Jam (or similar) concert?  The entire thing is loud.

The "quiet parts" are just the parts where, if you scream as loud as you can, the stranger that you are crammed nuts-to-butts against just might hear you.

It can be annoying sometimes but on other occasions, like this gig, it works wonderfully well. At least that's my opinion.

To my knowledge this is from the Benoroya Hall live album, not from Rearview Mirror. And opposite to what some people say here there's no ukulele in it. The part that drives the audience wild is an acoustic guitar solo.

By the way, Black from the same album, is some of the best examples of what an audience during a live performance can add to a (already marvelous) song.

The guitar solo on this is sooooo good. Turn it up to 11 and rate it the same.

I remember when this band broke out.  I was a college freshman - this was their time.  I've been saddened by all the deaths of musicians of that era. I'm so glad that this band still sustains. Vedder very much reminds me of Neil Young.
Great version, great band!

It's funny about vocalists. Dig it: Vedder, Mickey Thomas (Jefferson Starship/Elvin Bishop), Steve Perry (Journey), Bill Champlain (Chicago), Philip Bailey (Earth, Wind, and Fire) were/are all hired guns for bands that had outstanding instrumentalists, but lacked a powerhouse vocalist. My favorite example of this is Big Brother and the Holding Company. They were a hippie-dippie jam band until someone recommended Janis. The rest became history.

It's a good thing that Vedder fit in with Pearl Jam. Who knows how they would have fared otherwise?
PJ must be an acquired taste...I am getting it, at least the acoustic versions
Yech, Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam in the same hour?   What have I done to offend you, RP? Thank God for PSD.

I agree about Vedder's singing, it's okay but Pearl Jam does get boring espicially with the amount played here on RP like just 4 hours ago

Sorry but that is just your opinion. You cannot generalize it. The music was always be and always will be about personal taste and matching energy. Nobody can tell you "this is good" or "this is bad". If some song makes you happy than it's good ,and that's it. {#Wink} Just listen your heart ,not the critics, even if they comes from big musicians or other eloquent people.. (sorry for my english)

I gave the song a 4, but the crowd sure seemed easily impressed. I imagined they'd yawn if they heard Peter Ostroushko on the mando. They made a lot of money though so they must be good.
Hey Acceptable is good enough. I'd rather have acceptable than barf in my shoes.

I'm wondering how well Vedder's solo ukulele work is going to be remembered.

I'm very sure the ukulele is fun and all, but Eddie Vedder is no Kamakawiwiole.

It did take a long time for Pearl Jam to really click for me.  I always liked them but I was a half generation older than the average fan and I let that bother me.  Now I think they are in, say, the top ten of the most influential groups of the rock era.
