I lost myself inside someone else
I couldn't see the lines between her and me
On a darker road, the fear I've shown
With eyes of stone, he walks alone

What are you afraid of?
All the years fade away
What are you made of?
From the ties that hold us down
What are you fighting for?
To feel them all
What are you dying for?
To be free

Who tonight will change your life
To jump on a plane and land a
Thousand miles away
Just to see what we came to be

[chorus repeat]

Inside my eyes

There's no chance of losing
When there's no chance at all
As time goes by, I forget why
From a distant view it might still be true
There's a part of me that lives for you.

[chorus repeat]

LMAO - another Herded Rubism.....
Hearing this in the background while working in my garage I guessed... Janes Addiction...no not quite Perry Farrell so maybe The Shins or Broken Bells... not really James Mercer so who the heck and so I gave up and looked at the monitor and it said West Indian Girl. Well being a fan of the other bands  mentioned I really like the sound of this band and will look forward to hearing more from them. You listening BillG?

And 17 years old already. The song I mean
6/8, 3/4, 12/8, ...., now I no longer feel quite so 'dumb'.

The answers to my initial question about the time signature are most appreciated.  RP: Buenísimo

I've actually noticed the opposite to be true.

How'd that release date work out for you?

Actually, I think it's more complicated than the previous responses said.

I think it's 4/4 time, however, each beat is then played as a three beat triplet (I guess that could make it 12/12 time).

If you listen, taking each triplet as one beat, you can then hear the longer 4-beat phrases/bars in the song.

What complicates it is that the middle beat of each triplet is quieter, so you end up with:

1-pause-and / 2-pause-and / 3-pause-and / 4-pause-and...

It's very clever, and I love the result.

Actually it's more like a 6/8 beat.
Always amazes me when Bill plays something I completely missed 16 years ago. Thank heaven I’ve found RP now!

What you describe is 12/8.
I think it's a swinging 6/8

Thanks Proclivities.  Intuitively that sounds right.

Interesting song, in that I feel compelled to stop and listen.

Sounds like 6/8 or 3/4.   Similar strumming pattern to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" - which is 3/4.  Cool tune at any rate.

No JA or PFP on RP.   WTF?   {#Arghhh}
dumb question:  what is the time signature in this song?
Okay that opening guitar riff is being used for a program on Public Radio and I cant place it and its driving me crazy.
Love this now as was & ever shall be... A balmy night, skyed up on Golden Goat, drinking a brace of O'Dell's Runoff Red IPA; perfect!
perfect psychedelia. pure bliss.
I am hearing something from Elbow here, I think it's "The Bones of You" from Seldom Seen Kid.  Even lyrically it resembles it in places, to my ear.

ps I think Mr Garvey may have enjoyed this album some four years or so before he penned his work.  erm ....

pps I think this a superb track.
Everybody in my homeless camp loves this song...
{#Frustrated}
Skeptical at first, but firmly enjoy this now.  Very nice.

PSD is just a click away. I, for one, like this and am well pleased it's played here but there is no reason for you to be subjected to it if it offends.
A solid 9!
What am I afraid of?  I'm afraid this is going to go on any longer than it already has.
Still on a healthy rotation after many years, even on my personal devices.  And, sure to induce hallucinations, similar to Owsley's concoction of the same name.

It;s great !!!

Annoying!!
Lovely segue from "Life on Mars".  Thanks, Bill!  And the Bowie influence is very evident.

WHY do I not own this song yet?
Can't believe it has been SEVEN YEARS since this first caught my attention hearing it on RP — and I have loved it every time since.  Just fantastically atmospheric and breezy, like a sunny tropical day...

A vocal cord?
Is this a redo?

what a GREAT chorus!!
Wow!  Really retro!  Love it!  Sorry, ran out of exclamation marks.  Must restock.
I first heard this band at the Outside Lands Festival in SF.  Great song!
I enjoy this song - It relates to the fear that binds us from our own freedom. Peace

I think they are still forging ahead without Mariqueen who married Trent Reznor and then they formed How to Kill Angels, then she had a baby. I know too much
Very refreshing after that Avett Bros dirge.
Did they break up? I saw them live once and it was great.....

what a find. great stuff!
I like the lead guitar.
One of my favorite songs discovered on RP from back when I first starting listening.  Loved it so much I went to see them perform at the Casbah in San Diego — great show in a small, packed venue.  Got to talk with a couple of the band members before the show, great guys!

No comment! Just missed this one.

Funny I hop onto the forum, and I see my prior comment that you replied. Kinda ironic that my brother was in Vegas this past weekend and got to see Beatles Love. I'm green with envy.

will never tire of this
I really like it too...
Once again i'm convinced RP is psychic...I was just listening to this song in my car over the lunch hour!!

If I ever get to Vegas, we should hang out

Excellent album—does not take brains to listen to, just ears.

Love this album and this song. Still in regular rotation on the pod.

Wish they would make a new one.

hippiechick - I was thinking of buying this album but knowing you love it....I now hesitate... but I shouldn't - just because you don't like David Byrne....

Hey Ross - believe it or not — they are from (or at least the leaders are from) DETROIT
Love this album and this song. Still in regular rotation on the pod.

Wish they would make a new one.
I'm hearing a little Alex Chilton in the vocals mebbe.....
kind of whiny vocals but a nice song, well produced, nice mood
this is really, really good.
Strong 8!
good god this is good!

I had to buy it... so I did.

Thanks again Bill!
Never heard of this act before, great song.

Great album, one of the weaker tunes though.
I absolutely love this tune. Figured some day I'd hear it on here! Is the rest of the album equally as good?
groovy
wow! this song made me think of Tripping Daisy, a band i saw a lot when i lived in Dallas in the early 90s... the Oragoogle tells me they begat Polyphonic Spree and The Secret Machines! well how about that.
Yes! I'll play this when I sail off into the sunset.
Just saw them in San Diego a couple weeks ago. Singer has an amazing voice, uses it like another instrument more than anything else (kind of a shame too), but a lot like Elizabeth Fraser aka Cocteau Twins. Band was tight, very solid. Overall a really good show.
COOL! Thought it was Mazzy Star for about a second there. Ah, this is nice tune. :-)
Nice song- always brings a smile!
I always crank this way up!
I still like this song more and more every time I hear it ... Sounds fresh and nostalgic at the same time.
I'm afraid of only two things – nuclear war and "Carnies" - Circus Folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands.
What a cool song, I hadn't heard it before.
Zzzzz....Zzzzzz
Cool stuff. new to me. i love that.

I was thinking Jane's Addiction... a radio station here in philly uses the intro for their I.D. bumper. Very cool tune.
great stuff...
Yes, folks, this was a Seattleite after 9 solid months of drizzle, but now in Sept. sunshine the world doesn't seem so bad, eh Trill? A bird-of-paradise album cover for RP! KSTrillian wrote:

Love this album. Wish they would release something new.
This entire album is excellent. Thanks for turning us onto it RP.
I didn't know this was actually a full-length song. All I've ever heard were the first few bars when I stream WXPN (It's the intro to their plea for support).

This is the only song I enjoy off the album... and I've given it more than just one listen.
Damn, this one just went up a notch to an 8. It always makes me happy. =)
Outstanding sound!
Thanks RP!
I'm ready for some new stuff from them.
surely one of my favorite rp songs.
Do I hear Perry Farrell...
Good groove.
There is something quite likeable about this song. Think her voice is quite unique, in a way.
Such an enjoyable tune, especially the refrain part, when this woman sort of screaming :)
I ALWAYS CRANK THIS WHEN IT COMES ON. WELL DONE MUSIC.
This cd gives me a California feeling (that's a good thing!)
Bill, The last 25 minutes of music has been heavenly! Keep the audio ecstasy streaming into my ears.
I like this actually. The guitar work at the end is pretty good.
