When you gonna grow up
Momma always said
Are you gonna walk around with a silly grin
And a bubble on your head
A spaceship landed by the mall
There was a big parade
Everybody got laid
And they burned all the books and the Chevrolets
They grow so fast they never crawl

If you get tired of satellite flyers
And fame has let you down
Under the wire and over the moon
I'm around

When you gonna grow up
Momma always said
But I just wanna walk around with a dollar bill
And a coat that never sheds
A spaceship landed on the water
It was a holiday
For the underpaid
Everybody got a haircut and lemonade
And they smiled just like it was their father

If you get tired of satellite flyers
and fame has let you down
under the wire and over the moon
I'm around

Play me a groove one for my radio one for my love
That came and went
So many stories, hey man I'm sorry.
Joe, this is just a song to pay the rent

...When you gonna grow up

This song needs to be revived. It was SO good!
was the spaceship from Planet Claire?
Love this song and artist! Spaceship is quite different from the other tracks on his debut album "The American" but they're all very good. He's yet another talented that got picked up by a major label (in this case Arista) that didn't understand his music. They overproduced Spaceship, gave it a bizarre, flashy video, and packaged Angie as a pop star. He's really a very talented singer-songwriter with a gift for hooks, and when Top 40 radio didn't embrace him completely, Arista dropped him, but retained rights to his wonderful debut album, which is out of print. If you find it at a good used CD store, or on eBay, it's a good get. He does shows in the southeast pretty regularly and he's quite a showman. His cover of "Rocket Man/Major Tom" is worth the ticket. Check him out! Alright, enough cheerleading from me! (Can you tell I'm a huge fan? :-)
Dude, what the hell is this crap? I'm not busy shopping at Target or anything right now.
And both are from Georgia .... Ximinez wrote:

I thought this was a Weird Al song at first. Staying at 2.

I like the completely silly lyrics. They make no sense in any external way, but they're amusing. "Everybody got haircuts and lemonade"? What? Still, it makes me laugh.
The vocals have probably been "tweaked" in post-production, but I think they're pretty flippin' sweet nevertheless. Especially the last chorus. meydele wrote:

And meydele... I couldn't agree more. Don't hate on music that knows it's pop!
Sorry ... This is borderline Backsteet Boys ... or is it 'Boyz'? ...

Totally. I kept trying to figure out what song he was mocking. Then I realized it was too yucky to be a Weird Al song. Gotta say there are elements of this song that are completely indigestable.
If you are a teenager and like this spoken-syn-monotone-lyric sound, check out Deadsy "Mansion World". Or don't.

When I was a college DJ at WRUC, I used to program sets like this one: Peter Schilling - Major Tom Angie Aparo - Spaceship BT - Satellite Jefferson Starship - Have You Seen The Stars Tonite Ah, paradise!
Great sets indeed, so much so that I thought BT and Angie Aparo were the same one!
Not only is the running theme cool, but that was a seamless segue from BT's Satellite to Angie Aparo's Spaceship. I liked BT better, but this is Decent. I don't know==It just seems a little over-contrived to sound textured and seemed to backfire. (unintentional pun :)) And since we've had this line-up before I can only hope to hear Major Tom next, since I happen to love that song!
He played a show in Augusta a few months ago, no one showed up. But he wrote a recent Faith Hill hit, so don't worry about him.

His voice reminds me of Francis Dunnery at points in this song...... Any idea what has happened to this guy?
