Take a walk down memory lane with me
Past a watermelon stand on the way
Thinking I had everything we'd need
On Martha's Foolish Ginger

You were late, how could I forget
What you said, the part about that
Love taking over your life
Was not in your plan

If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
Who knows what I would have done
If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
Who knows what I would have done

Through the cliffs out of the bay I went
From the starboard side I could block my
Visions and my passions
They keep me awake

If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
Who knows what I would have done
If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
Who knows what I would have done

A familiar voice, "Hi, surprise
I've been searching trying to find you"
I couldn't speak my hands reached
For Martha's Foolish Ginger

We talked until the moon came up
About how life without love
Isn't worth very much
Then I played this song

If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
Who knows what I would have done
If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
Who knows what I would have done
What I would have done
What I would have done

"Memories that we have yet," you said
"To make like our Burning Bed"
Love, don't mistake that it wasn't safe
On Martha's Foolish Ginger

after seeing her in concert Monday night, I was motivated to return to the record, and was thrilled to see that hearing them live gave me a new appreciation for the album. Particularly wonderful are "Barons of Suburbia" and "Marys of the Sea." THIS song, however, still remains the weak link and will always be skipped by me....!
I agree... I love Tori; she's my favorite artist and my own muse... but this song is not her best, by any means.

I used to love Tori Amos. But her new "adult contemporary" flavor makes me nauseated. I respect that artists need to change, and she is no different... but I wish she'd stopped while her music was still good and not just a bunch of high-pitched, tame melodies with nonsensical lyrics. I think having a kid changes everything. You lose your edge. She and Sarah McLachlan need to form a club. Depressing.
ug. I always have to turn down my sound when Tori is playing, way too sharp and piercing for my taste. And this song is definitely not one of her better ones...

I have the album, and it's not bad... but I would place it as her worst (not counting the cover album Strange Little Girls). Mostly that ranking has to do with how good the other albums are, not with anything "bad" as such here. But it *is* a bit bland, and very uneven. Some brilliant songs (Parasol, The Power of Orange Knickers) are mixed together with some b-side -quality stuff (Ireland, Original Sinsuality). It's sort of like Kate Bush's "The Red Shoes". Not a bad album in any sense, but just not up to the high standards set by the previous ones.
I liked Little Earhquakes quite a lot--even saw past the Kate Bush comparisons, but after Boys for Pele I think she has been floundering a bit.

oh, I bought it. It's just that it's a different (more mature?) sound for her and I really miss the Tori angst/fire. It's on a couple of songs at least. Not this one...
That's it! (looks for emoticon where Smiley hits the nail on the head)

I THINK THE NEW CD IS PURE GENIUS . HER LYRICS ARE BEAUTIFUL & HAUNTING. WHEN YOU LOOK PAST TORI'S SOMETIMES PIERCING VOICE, YOU DISCOVER A POETIC GENIUS THAT USES MELODIES TO ACCENT HER MESSAGE. HER MUSIC , IF YOU CARE TO LISTEN THAT LONG, IS A MUSICAL JOURNEY... I CAN'T SAY THAT THERE'S EVER BEEN A SONG THAT I DIDN'T LIKE... I KNOW ,I KNOW, I'M A TRUE TORI DEVOTEE.
She truly is a talent. Only problem is that her composition and arrangements are so HEAVY that all my thoughts are a jumble after about 30 minutes of listening to her music. She needs to lighten up and have some fun.

I love Tori. Always have and always will. But these tracks off the new album are scaring me a bit...a bit bland, no? Guess I'll have to wait until I can spend time with the album myself before I can really tell. Other Tori people, any insight so far? (and please, no "Tori always sucks" responses! We are well aware of how you feel!) =;

First I've heard from the new album... if this is any indication... it's a good sign!
