Nice sound — as noted below, whispy little faux singing a'la Bjork, but nice nevertheless. This is the singer that did Gollum's song at the end of Peter Jackson's LOTR: The Two Towers when Bjork wasn't available. She's also Icelandic.
THAT'S where I've heard her! I'm really glad they used Torrini instead of Bjork - I suspect Bjork would have lent too much power to what should be a tender, tragic song.

Why are so many female singers afraid to actually sing? A little bit of the whispery vocals is OK, heck, even Bjork does it to an extent, but this is getting out of hand.

That whispery singing style is nothing new - it's certainly older than condenser microphones. Think Billie Holiday, Julie London, or Peggy Lee, among others. Every song does not need to be belted out as if sung by Ethel Merman.
