They should have understanding (of themselves) first.

Bigotry is more prevalent than  one would like to believe.

That’s okay. Don’t come back at all. No one will miss you.

Nothing better to do than be d*ckheads, is my guess.
beautiful
yeah
This kind of music sounds so much better without Paul Simon's involvement.

Waiting for the break? Not really there in African popular music. There is no chorus, usually. Just the main melody repeated with different words. Reminds me of Indian music that way. Always a surprise to *not* hear the "And When I touch You I Feel Happy Inside" change that you expect to be there as in the structure of Western pop music..

You need to realise that most African music is telling a story not singing a song in the western sense.

Also much of the African music is highly rhythmic for the purpose of inducing a trance like state. So you end up with a popular tribal pattern being used as a backdrop to a popular story, both will be related and the end product  becomes even more popular.

You should listen to some of the music from Dogon tribes of Mali they're very very rhythmic to the point where they get sampled for us in Drum and Bass trax

A lot of Western music didn't have choruses or bridges, especially traditional folk, blues, and country music.

"Guiss Guiss" means vision, and aside from lauding his marabout, Lô uses the song to state his own vision of what's important in life-knowledge of the creator, friends and family, children above all. Lô has long wanted his messages to extend far beyond Senegal's borders, and he's always believed that the key to that is creating an original and inspirational sound. As he told me, "If the music doesn't please you, you are not going to search to find out what it is saying." This spiritual motivation drove Lô in his efforts to create a blend of musical styles that would move his country's pop music ahead in a new direction. "It was hard work," he says now, and the success that work has now earned him must be especially sweet, for above all, it validates his calling as a Baye Fall, a tireless worker with an eye to the next world.
And that's the incomparable Youssou singing BG Vox {#Cheesygrin}{#Cheesygrin}{#Cheesygrin}

You sir, are out of order. There is no place for that kind of talk here. Shameful.

1) click the iTunes link so RP gets some commission.

2) download the album.

3) enjoy a new artist that tickles my earbones.

Hurrah!

That is all.

  You must have big bucks to buy the whole album! I prefer a more surgical approach and just by the song!

As I wus saying... Even if you don't speak the language!

That's definitely Youssou N'Dour on background vocals.
They're both from Senegal, where Youssou N'Dour is of the KING of music, AFAIK.

Speaking of eclectic, RP lost a degree of low-brow idiocy ever since this guy left.

Now why did you have to go and insult "low-brow idiocy" like that?

I can be quite low brow, but I kinda like this.

Yay! I was able to move the rating up a tenth of a point anyway! Hooray for small victories and fantastic African rhythms!!{#Lol}{#Bananajam}

This tune definitely added some warmth and sun to a cold snowy morning...
Very nice!!

absolute genius

Paul Simon obviously borrowed from this style in his Rhythm of the Saints era.

Not quite great but I stay keep tuned to RP for variety like this. Keep it up Bill.
It's the same 20 seconds of music looped over and over again.

Thought so. He's so recognizable -- and the contrast against Cheikh Lo Lo's voice is striking.
Is this the brother of Youssou N'Dour? ...sounds all identic...
I see a lot of really positive comments here. Try upping the ratings so we don't lose it from the play list!!!
That was really nice. Thanks, Bill
really happy uplifting music.Let's have more of the same.
as much as I'm trying to like this... I don't. A 3.
