Every day she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair
It's just another day

Slipping into stockings
Stepping into shoes
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat

It's just another day

At the office where the papers grow, she takes a break
Drinks another coffee and she finds it hard to stay awake
It's just another day (Du, du, du, du, du)
It's just another day (Du, du, du, du, du)
It's just another day

So sad, so sad
Sometimes she feels so sad
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams comes to break the spell

Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays
But he leaves the next day, so sad
Sometimes she feels so sad

As she posts another letter to the sound of five
People gather 'round her and she finds it hard to stay alive
It's just another day (Du, du, du, du, du)
It's just another day (Du, du, du, du, du)
It's just another day

So sad, so sad
Sometimes she feels so sad
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams comes to break the spell

Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays
But he leaves the next day, so sad
Sometimes she feels so sad

Every day she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair
It's just another day

Slipping into stockings
Stepping into shoes
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat

Oh, it's just another day (Du, du, du, du, du)
It's just another day (Du, du, du, du, du)
It's just another day

I like this song because you can tell he wrote it on the guitar,
The comments in this thread are hilarious.

Come on, Paul is a 'popster' and this song is a little 'sappy'.   Still enjoyable though.

———————————————

I admire Paul McCartney because he is a class act and incredibly devoted and respectful towards his fans.

Great song! Interesting chords and production, fine playing and singing, even a pretty good lyric. Looking back, seems like it was still very easy for Paul to come up with gems at this point in time.
If that is Linda Mc. doing the harmonizing vocals, she's doing a wonderful job.
Oh all these memories... {#Heartkiss}

fab4fan wrote:All that may be true but the song is still only worth a six!  Different strokes, I is a different folkie        {#Roflol} :verymad: Paul McCartney is a "sappy" Popster? NO he's the same great *rocker* who even Ozzy Osbourne calls a genuis, the same Paul who had John Paul Jones,Pete Townsend,John Bonham and David Gilmore play with him on two songs on the last Wings album,Back To The Egg in 1979! They also played with him in the last Wings concert in December 1979.Pete Townsend and Phil Collins also played on his 1986 album Press To Play. This is the same Paul who wrote what many people have called the first true heavy metal song,Helter Skelter.
It's also the same Paul who wrote great rock songs like I'm Down which was a pretty hard screaming rocker for 1965,and a great blues rocker She's A Woman with a loud chomping guitar, his prominent bass, piano, and his hard blues rock voice, from late 1964. The same Paul who wrote the great rockers,Jet,Band on The Run,1985,Juinors Farm,Helen Wheels,Let Me Roll It,Give Ireland Back To The Irish,Rock Show,Letting Go,etc, etc! It's also the same Paul who was just featured in a Billboard Magazine tribute with Keith Richards and Pete Townsend in it,and Keith Richards picked Let it Be and Pete Townsend picked Eleonar Rigby as Paul's best songs and Keith Richards said he wishes Paul would write more like this!
It's the same Paul who Mick Jagger used to hang out in his music room all of the time of in 1966 and 1967 and Marianne Faithful Mick Jaggers former girlfriend is quoted in the authorized Paul McCartney biography Many Years From Now by Barry Miles, as saying they always went to see Paul because he was Paul McCartney and that he never went to visit them, and she said Mick was threatened and somewhat jealous of Paul but Paul was totally oblivious to this. It's the same Paul who has two solo albums,McCartney and Ram that Rolling Stone.com calls excellent and underrated and calls his great Band On The Run and Tug of War albums Masterpieces! I'm really glad to see The All Music Guide rated many of Paul's albums highly and the members on VH1.com and AOL Music online gave all of Paul's solo/Wings albums a 4 and 5 star rating! It's the same Paul who on AOL Music just won in a Battle of The Bands Rock Icons Paul McCartney vs Mick Jagger! Paul got 53% of the vote Mick Jagger got only 47%!
His new album Chaos And Creation in The Backyard has gotten great reviews from Rolling Stone,Uncut,The All Music Guide,The New York Times,Billboard, etc, etc and from most people who have heard it and it's now the number 1 selling album on Amazon.com! Paul plays most of the instruments himself and he played every one on his first solo album,McCartney in 1970 and then again on McCartney 2 in 1980.
Also Guitarist Hugh McCraken who worked with Paul on his 1971 album Ram which sessions Another Day was recorded from, said Paul is a genuis,he sees and hears everything he wants.Dixon Van Winkle who was a young staff member at A&R Recording then, says Paul is such a great singer, and that he knows that the vocals they cut at CBS studios are Paul singing live right of the floor with the rhythm section into an RE20 which was a relatively new mike at the time.He said he was in love with the song Another Day and told Paul to release this as the single and so he did.Tim Geelan the CBS staff engineer at the time, said working on the song Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey was one of the highlights of his career. He said Paul was a great producer:thorough, businesslike and loose at the same time,he says Paul was absolutely the best, and that he was impressed with his musicianship and command of the studio.
Also John was one of the ones who left The Beatles and was more into his relationship and work with Yoko and he said after their manager Brian Epstein died he knew deep inside that The Beatles were finished! It's also the same Paul who there is an excellent web site about called,The Evolution Of Rock Bass Playing McCartney Style and in it Stanley Clarke,Will Lee,Billy Sheehan, and Sting all say what a great melodic influential bass player Paul has always been! The Rolling Stone Album Guide also calls Paul a remarkable bass player and calls John and Paul the two greatest writers in the history of rock!

yes that is her, and I agree, she did a lot of great harmony with Wings.

I mean really. It's been close to half a century, and people are still bickering about "who broke up the Beatles"?!
The Beatles were great (the greatest?) while they lasted.
If they'd stayed together their music would most likely have suffered, so let's all be happy for the incredible music they made, and, you know, move on.
It must be Paul MCCartney day....still this is one of my all time favorites of his!! Thanks Bill

It was more complicated than that. I don't like Yoko either, especially nowadays, but she's not all to blame. They each had good reasons to want to move on, and the reasons had less to do with any woman than it did restlessness and the urge to do their own thing.

I can read about Paul's reputation and accomplishments, but let's listen to this song on its own...and give it an appropiate rating because it really does suck.
This sucks.

Gotta disagree. One of Paul's best solo songs ever and worthy of being on any Beatles album. (And, true to form, a wonderfully melodic bass line.) Besides, you said Cream's Badge (which I love) is on your "absolute short list of greatest recordings, ever." and that has the confounding lyric…" I told you 'bout the swans, that they live in the park. Then I told you 'bout our kid, now he's married to mabel…" What the hell is THAT?! You have to be careful picking on questionable lyrics in rock songs…the damn things are in some of the best songs ever!

What horrible lyrics...a sad girl in a dead end job waiting for a man to come along and rescue her, presumably because she can't help herself? Haven't we progressed past this? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the transforming power of love, and I'm married to the best man on the planet. However, the story of this song drives me nuts, precisely because I've been there, waiting...waiting...and waiting for someone to come along and make my life okay. Sorry to all for the rant, but this is (obviously) a hot topic for me.
Joyful?
god-like melody. Simply amazing

It may be pop, but it's godlike pop.

I'm still living it ! This is one of my all time favorites!!
This is a great sounding song,I love the Hawian sounding guitar in it and Paul's bass plus his melody and harmony is great as usual! I hadn't listened to this song for over a year and I started to listen to my All The Best Paul McCartney album, and I like this song more than I ever did! The guitarist who worked with Paul in recording this said he was in love With Another Day and told Paul to release it as a single. :)

Uh...it's a song - not the meaning of life. He paints word picutres, apparently very well, you got it. Allow for some artistic license here. Besides - do you really want to rag on a Beatle? Joyfulchristine wrote:

I hope I'm not crucified for suggesting that Paul might have a deeper point to make--no one seems to think he's capable of depth--but the way that verse sounds to me, he's portraying the misguidedness of the girl's "man of her dreams" scenario. In the song, the guy's a dud. He "leaves the next day," and she ends up even MORE depressed. Or, he could've written lyrics that say, "Unfortunately, she tried to fill the void with a man, which is never a good idea," but instead, he told a story, which is something he does very well. I mean, did you even listen to the song?

Hmmm. While I understand, even appreciate, your POV, methinks this is Sir Paul's second take on a theme that actually meant something to him--i.e., Eleanor Rigby and "all the lonely people". Ordinarily, I'm less than kind to SP's lyrics and thematic choices--all the depth of a mud puddle, but I'll give him this one. Hope your life is okay...
i would absolutely love to see "she's given up talking" from driving rain...

Because it perpetuates the "yesterday" notion of the female as powerless to create her own happiness. Well, you asked. :)

No diss from me. I love this song and always have. (I am addicted to blindsiding minor keys.) As for commercial radio, what station is playing this? I'm there! Certainly not the Boston classic rock stations. It's AC/DC all day, every day.
my upload, yay! my apologies to those who think it is too commercial, it's a great special song...
It would appear that Bill only recently added this song. I like this song. I have fond memories of times hearing it on the radio back when. I expected to be the usual "disses" here about anything that ever got heavy play on commercial radio - maybe it's just because it hasn't been played much - I'll wait.
This is the first song I ever learned to play on guitar!
