If John ever said this it was during the bitter period shortly after The Beatles break up. He praised *many* of Paul's great songs and he loved Here There and Everywhere,he even almost recorded with Paul and Wings on their great 1975 Venus and Mars album but he went back to Yoko instead after they had been seperated for a year and a half. He also said in a 1980 interview that he really liked Paul's 1980 song Coming Up and that hearing it inspired him to write music again!

If it's the "exhortation" before the guitar lead, it's "Take me back, Jimmy" (as in "back to Junior's farm", and referring to Jimmy McCulloch, Wings' lead guitarist at the time.)

A fun song and one not to be taken seriously. I agree, he kicked ass at Live8. My condolences to the people of London and England on the cowardly terrorist attacks in the beautiful city. I hope that G8 will be able to carry on and do the work that they propose on doing despite this attack. Life is precious and not to be wasted.

He was absolutely top-notch last week at Live8. He played 'Drive My Car' and 'Helter Skelter' The band rocked like you wouldn't believe, and the drummer was awesome !! Then he played 'Long and Winding Road', which is pure schmaltz, but it worked perfectly in the context. Great stuff, Macca !!

Most of Paul McCartney's/Wings' music has stand the test of time pretty well, I think. Mainly due to the quality of the (catchy) songs, of course, but also because of the crystal clear production, the LOUD bass and things like that. Quite some Get Back in this one (but he's entitled to use that ). physicsgenius wrote:

I pretty much agree with that, but it was especially the combination of talents (including that of George Martin and the recording team) and characters and also the sixties' spirit that made them so special, I think.

As for George, how bad does a record need to be for a record company to not produce it, when the artist is a BEATLE? He's always admitted he was the weaker songwriter, even if he never admitted he actually learned his craft from the other lads. That is to say, many of his lyrics were weak -- in actuality, it took ALL FOUR to create the "musical hook" to which physicsgenius refers. Can you fathom all that music without Ringo's backbeat?

I don't know, I've always thought Paul was disappointing post- Beatles. And I thought his stuff, and that of Wings, became progressively worse as he/they went along (example: Silly Love Songs or whatever that song was called) Comparing the solo works of George and John with those of Paul, well, at least to me, there is no comparison.
