The under and better side of 80s music is still not known to the masses. It was easily the most prolific and creatively diverse period of modern music. The 70's punk scene cracked the music establishment and the 80s forced it open. The creativity went well beyond the new wave music presented to the masses. I was lucky enough to have one of the best college radio stations at my college and got to hear nearly everything out there. I had truly hoped commercial radio would open up in the 90s but alas it still, as always, gets run over by the greed of industry and the short-sightedness of people put in charge.

Brilliant!! My scary weekend is made. Saw Bauhaus in a reunion tour in Toronto a few years back. Suburban dads there with kids, goths, such a mixed crowd. Missed them in their hey day.
Do miss the days CFNY in Toronto used to play their New Years countdown. It was #1 for years.

Back then Seattle had more of an earthy edge to it, and it was a far friendlier city too — not to mention easier to drive in. Kind of a seedy neighborhood then full of edgy artists, Queers and winos, now all trendy with multi-million dollar condos. Sigh . . . .

The live version of this song is a definite 9. This one, on the other hand, only gets a 6 from me. Too much studio trickery, and not enough raw energy.
By the way, in Plan 9, after Lugosi died, much of his part was played by Ed Wood's dentist--a man who was about a foot taller than Lugosi.
Anyway, I think Bauhaus were just riffing on the irony of a guy who made his career playing the undead, actually dying. There's not a real connection to Plan 9 in the lyrics.

The live version from their album "Press The Eject and Give Me The Tape" is superior to the studio version as heard here, but I will take Bauhaus and Peter Murphy anyway RP sees fit to distribute it.
