I was just a boy when I sat down
To watch the news on TV
I saw some ordinary slaughter
I saw some routine atrocity
My father said, don't look away
You got to be strong, you got to be bold, now
He said, that in the end it is beauty
That is going to save the world, now

And she moves among the sparrows
And she floats upon the breeze
She moves among the flowers
She moves something deep inside of me

I was walking around the flower show like a leper
Coming down with some kind of nervous hysteria
When I saw you standing there, green eyes, black hair
Up against the pink and purple wisteria
You said, hey, nature boy, are you looking at me
With some unrighteous intention?
My knees went weak,
I couldn't speak, I was having thoughts
That were not in my best interests to mention

And she moves among the flowers
And she floats upon the smoke
She moves among the shadows
She moves me with just one little look

You took me back to your place
And dressed me up in a deep sea diver's suit
You played the patriot, you raised the flag
And I stood at full salute
Later on we smoked a pipe that struck me dumb
And made it impossible to speak
As you closed in, in slow motion,
Quoting Sappho, in the original Greek

She moves among the shadows
She floats upon the breeze
She moves among the candles
And we moved through the days
and through the years

Years passed by, we were walking by the sea
Half delirious
You smiled at me and said, Babe
I think this thing is getting kind of serious
You pointed at something and said
Have you ever seen such a beautiful thing?
It was then that I broke down
It was then that you lifted me up again

She moves among the sparrows
And she walks across the sea
She moves among the flowers
And she moves something deep inside of me

She moves among the sparrows
And she floats upon the breeze
She moves among the flowers
And she moves right up close to me

Easy Peasy!. . . to quote, a Souf' London vernacular

and apparently - here is the translation

"That man seems to me to be equal to the gods
who is sitting opposite you
and hears you nearby
speaking sweetly

and laughing delightfully, which indeed
makes my heart flutter in my breast;
for when I look at you even for a short time,
it is no longer possible for me to speak

but it is as if my tongue is broken
and immediately a subtle fire has run over my skin,
I cannot see anything with my eyes,
and my ears are buzzing

a cold sweat comes over me, trembling
seizes me all over, I am paler
than grass, and I seem nearly
to have died.

but everything must be dared/endured, since (?even a poor man) ..."

I’m gonna give this one a 10
You took me back to your place
and put me in that diving suit.

Ok. I'm listening now.
Wat een takke nummer grrrr
Amazing talent. Rich music. More Nick please.
I would really like to hear somebody quoting Sapho in original Greek. (old presumably).
I generally prefer Nick's older work but this is one of my favorites. That piano is just infectiously happy. {#Daisy}

Just stay seated and keep that arm down!!  ;-)

I really like this too....other than the trouble this album gave me when ripping (my own CD) - first w/ the '/' then w/ the LONG track names....UGGG....at least the track is excellent to listen to, and it garners an 8.4 rating from me....almost ready to bump to 9....almost....

Long Live RP!!

60 years old and his latest, Skeleton Tree, proves he's getting better with age. Such a fascinating, talented artist.
Always fun.  The lyrics are the bomb.
Re: that piano thing in Nick's and Elton's songs, check out Procol Harum's "Still There'll Be More" on the 1970 'Home' album.

Saw him last night at the iconic Massey Hall in Toronto...has to be one of the best lives shows going!

Very fine song- the lyrics are a hoot.
What a set! Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Ray and Dick Dale and now Nature Boy.

Great big YAY on a cold, wet Melbourne Sunday evening.

I love this song. The lyrics are beautiful. 9>10.
My, this follows Elton John really well.
Is there any other song that uses "wisteria" in it? No? I didn't think so.

Rocks with a David Bowie vibe
Love this song

My only regret about this song is that it is too short ... is there a longer version—perhaps live? {#Cheers}

Epic imagery and energy. Reminiscent of so many other tunes and the feelings they represent, yet all of it's own.
About time to up this to 8.

YAY! GREAT GREAT GREAT TUNE!!!!

Lyrical and musical roundness! Great tune dude!—bumped it up a notch! {#Dancingbanana_2}

Indeed.  The title of this is poignant in light of the recent tragic death of Nick Cave's young song.  So sad.
Rest in peace, Arthur.
If I were granted a wish to be able to perform a song as a rock star (and also to have the talent to do it of course) this one would be high on the list.

Few songs on RP have lyrics that are as ingenious, witty and evocative. Original Greek. Just brilliant.
Brilliant lyrics. Lovely tune.

digging it

How the heck could 12 people give this a 1?!!? And more importantly, what are they doing listening to RP?

a) Because one listener's Godlike is another's Sucko-Barfo - musical taste is gloriously subjective.
b) Liking a particular song/artist is not a precondition for listening to RP - see (a)

I think that this is the dog's bollox, but I can well understand others thinking it's a dog's dinner, and fair play to them.

And yes this song look like Bowie
I LOVE THIS GUY
Are the lyrics a salute to Leonard Cohen?
In this one, Nick sounds like Bowie.
And then, Bill plays "Heroes".   :)    {#Notworthy}
Most of his other songs I have heard here on RP leave me cold - but this one I like.
 lasker98 wrote:

Well, I think 1 is a bit severe, but I don't get this guy at all.  I don't think I've rated any of his songs more than a 5.  I do love RP though.
I miss Beez and Blu. They always made this song somehow better. And it's a great song without them. Just better with them.

My favorite Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds song.
One of my alltime favorites.

{#Guitarist}Excellant! Bass backup 10+.
Darn, this song always makes me wish the scale went above 10. {#Bananapiano}
One if my favorite band names....this is one of his better songs, or at least more mainstream
Happy song, miserable Nick. Not a good combo, shame.
Not a fan of Nick - but I like this.
high quality music man, enriching!

It sort of has the tempo and phrasing of "Solitary Man" in parts, but so do a lot of tunes.  It wouldn't surprise me if Mr. Cave listened to Neil Diamond, but I'm not sure about how much it influenced him.

Absolutely stunning - Nick Cave is definitely one of my all-time favourite artists. Such menace and such a great driving beat.
