How young are you
How old am I
Let's count the rings
Around my eye

How smart are you
How dumb am I
Don't count any
Of my advice

Oh, meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I might dare

Call me on Thursday, if you will
Or call me on Wednesday, better still
Ain't lost yet, so I gotta be the winner
Fingernails and cigarettes, a lousy dinner
Young, are you?

Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare

Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare

How young are you?
How old am I?
Let's count the rings
Around my eyes

How smart are you?
How smart are you?
How dumb am I?

Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare

Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don't care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare

Just a thought, Bill and Rebecca, play Pukka Orchestra " Might As Well Be On Mars". A local Toronto band that had a minor hit in the '80's. Great tune that deserves a listen

Or if the Replacements make you think of Toronto why not ask for Change of Heart or Scott B Sympathy who are more Replacements like ...

No
Great song on a great album!  Thanks RP.

Interesting article on some Twin Cities landmarks wrt The Mats.  One of which is the house on the album cover.

Most excellent album. Play more.
And solo Westerberg  for some nice pop.
This song makes me impossibly happy - and that's saying quite a bit!

No kidding.  I still have a few audio cassettes of Weasel shows. The disappointment I felt the first time I heard WHFS was no longer was huge.

Then you were probs listening to Aqua man doing 11 at 11 with Catherine hangin' around...later, maybe some Damien. Gawd I miss that station!

That's what I'm talking about. Life bops on down the street, regardless of wretched days/anniversaries. Hopefully this one will help folk find what they are looking for.
Weasel was one of the greats!  WHSF was the kind of station that Bill would have loved I bet.

Soooo long since I have heard this little gem...{#Bananajam}
"How young are you? How old am I? Let's count the rings around my eyes." Has to be one of my all-time favorite lyrics!

Love this!!
Wow, cool retro rock groove set this morning... Polecats from '83, this gem from '84; takes me back to living on The Hill; Party Times!
The first song on a crackin album.  Makes me jump around in my seat looking forward to the rest of it.
Such a breath of fresh air when I first grabbed the vinyl and cranked it up - just because of the ballsiness of the album title, and someone had told me that they were good.

Saw them a couple of times, but that was always disappointing.

Yeah, it sounds exactly like it, especially that guitar riff and the tempo.  Call Yoko's lawyers at once!

And that part where they hit a note and play music and stuff, same!

Had forgotten this song from the days when it got a lot of airplay. In retrospect always liked The Replacements but never realized that the various tracks I liked were from the same damned band. Oh ye tricksy Replacements. Off to buy the album.

One of The 'Mats best songs for sure.

This just doesn't do it for me. Sorry. Like the Replacements, but not this song so much.
Great band, great song, great sound.

Have you heard Westerberg's Ten Songs.  Talk about inconsistent.  Grandaddy is a brilliant solo but ten songs is awful.  But god I love them.  When the "mats" (as in the "placemats" a local joke at the time) played in San Diego in the early 80s they did a legendary show and end up up at a friends house for a house party and ended up screaming at the moon on the lawn and passed out on the couches.  And I missed it because of a pressing personal issue.

You're 4 songs light on your album title.

I recently listened to this again, and yes, it's wildly inconsistent, but there's some decent stuff on here, and I surely would not call it AWFUL...

Westerberg

Damn right they were consistent!  Name another band that got so much great press every time they put out a new record and sold so few albums.

gawdamn. awesome.

I wouldn't call their live performances consistent. they were probably the most erratic band i had ever seen, some of the best shows i've ever seen and some of the most horrible shows i've ever seen. it depended on how the alcohol interacted with their minds and bodies that night.

There's no mass appeal

Carton's asleep at the wheel

Yesterday's trash

Too bored to thrash

I love this band, too, but I have never felt Paul Westerberg's solo stuff had the same consistency - some great occasional songs, in my mind, but never got me like the band as a whole, sadly.

It takes a lot of talent to play this sloppy and still sound tight.

You've got that right, RadioDoc. They were one of the best live bands I ever saw, drunk or sober. Long live The 'Mats! {#Wave}

Love this song. It's in my workout songs in my ipod. I never get tired of it.

Hullo, boys, where ya been?
my favorite band of all time. as a group and individual releases. except tommy stinson with guns and roses. but.. anything to make money.
Yeah! Good college memories with this disc.

Perfect, bright and lovely - one of a handful of perfect pop songs!

Would that make it a Not Not Joke? (sorry, trekhead, I just wandered into your domain) Certainly likeable, anyway. Nice album title, too.
More 'Mats and Westerberg, less Elvis Costello.
Always fun, always welcome, always uplifting!
is this where Spoon gets their sound? I like both bands, by the way...
Minneapolis bands are the best!!
just brilliant!
I absolutely adore this song! Time to chair dance!

Here, Here! BTW, The 'Mats "Best Of" CD is now out! A good place to start for those who don't know about them, and another way for us diehards to contribute to Paul's IRA.
A great toe-tapper! Would love to hear this one in the rotation more.
This one is a classic. As a general rule I hate bandwagons of all stripes, but I am a devoted and diehard 'Mats fan.
Westerberg and the Stinsons were great! fun fun fun!
Proof that ALL 80's music doesn't suck. An EASY 10 for me.

It's such a sweet, sweet love song - my favourite Replacements song...
Love this song. When I was in high school, there was a radio station out of Westcon University in CT called WXCI. It was an old-school alternative station (before grunge), playing Replacements, DB's and Pet Shop Boys before they got big, etc. This song always takes me back to those days, but doesn't feel dated.
Pete Buck of REM on the mandolin. I'm trying to get over the Replacements fixation I had in my 20s and 30s, but it's not easy. They were a great, great band.
This is one of the greatest songs of the 80s by the best songwriter of the last 20 years - Paul Westerberg.
who said the 80s were a barren wasteland musically? this is flippin great!
A fondly remembered anthem from my high school days. Excellent excellent excellent!
this was my favorite album in 8th grade, it sounds just as great now. super!
first heard this song in high school....ahhh, such heady days :)

My exact sentiments. And I remember hearing this on the radio, when mainstream stations still put a few hours aside for alternative (meaning quality) music.
Ahhh...happy flashback to younger days. It still wears well.
most any Replacements song (esp. this one) = 10
The Paul Westerberg's band...Yeaaahhh!!! Anywheeeere is better than here... It sounds a bit Glam and I love this!!!
How cool! I uploaded this a couple of years ago, but it was rejected. Guess Bill changed his mind. They also played my Jeff Black song early tonight. DO I feel the love or what? :)

my favorite song of theirs, I think! :)
YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAA!!! I was just about to switch the volume down and try to work-- Yea Bill a gem from one of the bast pop rock albums of all time
WOO HOO! I saw the Replacements in a Chapel Hill NC dive when this was new. Westerberg introduced the song by saying "this is one you're supposed to like."
