Love spreads her arms, waits there for the nails
I forgive you boy, I will prevail
Too much to take, some cross to bear
I'm hiding in the trees with a picnic, she's over there
Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

She didn't scream, she didn't make a sound
I forgive you boy, but don't leave town
Cold black skin, naked in the rain
Hammer flash in the lightning
They're hurting her again

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister
Ain't no king man she's my queen

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister
Ain't no king man she's my queen

I have a dream, I've seen the light
Don't put it out, say she's alright
Yeah she's my sister

She didn't scream, she didn't make a sound
I forgive you boy, but don't leave town
Cold black skin, naked in the rain
Hammer flash in the lightning
They're hurting her again
Oh Oh

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister
Ain't no king man she's my queen

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister
Ain't no king man she's my queen

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister
Ain't no king man she's my queen

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean
The messiah is my sister
Ain't no king man she's my queen

Let me put you in the picture
Let me show you what I mean

The messiah is my sister

Hmm, riff reminds me of a Zep one

Hmm, sounds very much like an old LZ riff
Anyone else hear the Joe Walsh / James Gang slide?

Autotune n 1994?
Not in 1994.
...okay: I had to look it up  "Introduced in 1997".
Admittedly, I thought it dated from years later.
Even the "Chez effect" already guess back all the way to 1998. Feels like yesterday.
What a band!  Superb!

Alot of people criticise this song for being too repetitive. So be it. So be it. So be it. I still think the guitar work is incredible. Supposedly, the inspiration for the lyric, "Let me put you in the picture, let me show what I mean, emesara (?) is my sister, man she's my queen" came from a bar brawl Ian Brown saw. The instigator was a woman who was demonstrating to a guy in the bar who just wasn't getting it, why he shouldn't hit on her girlfriend. It's good fun.

Agreed, guitar (and rock tune) is great - on the song's inspiration; what are your sources? Lyrics express more than a bar brawl (you must know, musicians also read a lot for their inspiration).

Check this out (from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...):

"In 1995, guitarist John Squire said the lyrics were inspired by British author Rosalind Miles' 1988 book The Women's History of the World.[5] The book examines the roles of women, their representation, and their power through history"

great bass, tune has a seventies vibe to it
The bass line and repetition at the end always reminded me of "Jesus Christ Superstar"...to say nothing of him singing about "the Messiah" over and over.
Did I just hear you say From Manchester in London
Reni is astounding!
Good Tune!!

Goosehumps on me back with this  -- so sweet
This song is a 10 after about 3 notes.

Also just delightful to play on Rock Band.
Great tune!!
This track has swagger!
A song like a giant rock !  Fantastic rhythm and also kicking ass !

The pronunciation is due to an Intrusive R (Wikipedia)
What's a messiaher?
Saw them live at Reading festival in the UK, musically superb but Ian Brown's vocals were shocking... the recorded version still gets an 8 from me though :¬)
AMAZING guitar work!  this one never gets old!  Total 10!
what a great jam, even after 26 years it's still fresh!
This track is good, but nothing can outshine Stone Roses magnum opus, called Foz

Love SRV's work... but this is pretty different from most of what he did.... with the possible exception of the Voodoo Chile nuance... but that was really Henrdix not SRV.
diggin the amped up progressions segues. next up should be The Cult Wild Flower into LZ  Moby Dick...
So much sound that is tossed away in the radio versions.
Love this one!
I rock out to this in the car at least once a week.  Nasty!
Also, that chorus can be an evil earworm.
repeat  stuff,  repeat stuff,  repeat stuff   JFC  Stanhope said it best
Yeeeeeah!  Absolutely loving the guitar work!

There is a real early Led Zeppelin vibe to the instrumental backing.

The guitar and drums proves this band was not just a bunch of stoners.

In the context of the lyrics it seems relatively coherent: a female martyr/messiah/queen entity apparently.
Think of Jesus as a woman and it makes sense

If it's intended as a statement of theology, it's a little dodgy or at least wildly unorthodox—but who cares?  Those badass electric guitars are good enough for me.

                                        F I N E
Put me in the picture. Just stop singing.

This is a prime example of how you take an old enigmatic Blues-print and frill it on ALL THE WAY OUT with blistering feedback & jam...
Soft, lame vocals but great groove.
I love this combination: energeticaly music and Friday {#Dancingbanana_2}
Oy, stop singin thru yer nose ya whiny lil putz!
This song is pure showcase for the raw, unbridled genius of that Squire Guitar!  Jam some SEAHORSES, Do It Yourself!

That is funny.  And then my mind starts thinking about how I would write the code to avoid that infinite loop.  I'm a dork.
This is good.
Try "dancing" to this song by pretending you are walking  on a tightrope. Try it, it works.

Thank you! I was clicking thru the entire Led Zep library to try and figure out which song they ripped those licks from.  I can't stand this song because it starts off with some great, familiar guitar licks and then comes the wrong (and lame in my very personal & humble opinion) vocals and melody. It was driving me crazy. Homage maybe, but I think Page would have a suit - though I don't really advocate that sort of thing since most music is derivative anyway.

I don't know if any lawsuit would get very far over a three- or four-note riff, but you never know, stranger things have happened.  This song seems like it has more in common with Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" but Page "borrowed" a lot of his riffs and progressions over the years too.  I'd guess it's an obvious homage to both tunes - they weren't trying to fool anyone.

{#Roflol} As GB Shaw apocryphally said: The US and Britain are two nations separated by a common language. Or Oscar Wilde: "We have really everything in common with America nowadays, except, of course, language."

Me, I can't get over youse across the Pond calling one of your top universities Noater Daym. Damn Yanks: learn how to speak French ;-)

Funnily enough, these days, because of English becoming a lingua franca (sic!) worldwide, it's evolving into many separate Englishes, some of which are barely comprehensible to us Brits. So feasibly a Brit could go abroad to, say, Malaysia in the not too distant future, have a native speak to her in a Malay version of English, and not understand what's being said. A bit like what's happened to Spanish - Argentinian Spanish sounds, to my amateur ears, to be a very, very different creature from Castilian Spanish, and may not be comprehensible to a Spaniard.

Aren't languages wonderful? :o)

Not mad on the lyrics either - tried very hard and failed with the second album - all the Roses hero worshipers I knew at the time of it's release were disappointed with the poor effort. Little bit too up 'emselves maybe?
I knew I'd heard that Gorillaz song somewhere before and now the light dawns on me. I never did get the Stone Roses or any of the Madchester scene. My bad, I know. Does anyone have a two sentence revelation to wisen me up?
