There’s an airline plane
Flies to Heaven every day
Past them pearly gates
If you want to ride this train
Have your ticket in your hand
Before it is too late.
If the world looks wrong
And your money’s spent and gone
And your friend has turned away
You can get away to Heaven
On this aeroplane
Just bow your head and pray.

Them’s got ears let them hear
Them’s got eyes let them see
Turn Your Eyes to the Lord of the skies
Take that airline Plane
It will Take You Home again.
Yes, to your home beyond the skies.

Well, a lot of people guess
Some say no and some say Yes
Will it take some and leave some behind?
But you will surely know
When to the airport go
To leave this world behind

Oh, a lot of speakers speak
And a lot of preachers preach
When you lay their salary on the line
But to bow your head and pray
Is the only earthly way
That you can fly to Heaven on time.
That you can reach Heaven on time.

Your ticket you obtain
On this heavenly airline plane
You leave your sins behind
You have got to take this flight
Might be daytime, might be night,
But you can’t see your way if you’re blind.

Quick - grab the keys before the toddler takes our car out for a spin. You make me laugh. Control men? How's that working out? God may be a myth as you suggest but you are no theologian. Merely a low information pseudo intellectual mimicking 14 year old boys on Reddit. If you have something other to offer other than banal slogans, I suggest you do that instead of insulting millions of people of faith.
a really fine album to drive and sing with
A 9 bump up to 10.

Same thing for  Dylan and Springsteen by the comments on any of their tunes.

Wilco no, Billy Bragg yes - I've seen and heard our Billy and have a lot of respect for him, but Wilco make me hit the mute button.

Funny how BB doesn't really play on this tune.  9!  And I like Billy!

Love this one. Both of the Mermaid Avenue releases have some great material on 'em.

Now THAT'S funny.
Excellent transition from Crash Test Dummies, God Shuffled His Feet!
They played this one on the landing in the summer! (alderney landing that is!) One of the best concerts EVER.
Love the song. Was surprised at first to find it written by Woodie Guthrie but after listening to it and reading the lyrics, not so surprised. He spoke to the spirit in us all in a way not seen since the depression.

Agreed- I've had this disc for, what, 7 years and I have yet to hear that song without tearing up. The most beautiful and painful lyrics I've ever heard. Ever. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I recall hearing/reading somebody from Wilco saying that they felt they had to record it just because the lyrics were so beautiful.

This one rolls along quite nicely.
Come on kitty! Git 'dat plane! Bad kitty!
Billy Bragg legend, indeed! ...Tweedy's working on it. But this piece of work they did together, WOW! talk about sweet! both albums are amazing ...check out "A Man in the Sand" a documentary about the making of the albums!
Dang that was good! Never heard it before!
nice combo! cute kitty!

Billy Bragg! Legend. Enough said.

...yeah..and all those old fogey black guys who play it you are so ignorant and actually brag about it...if Bill is god, then you will be catching thunderbolts one time soon
these are woody guthrie songs, right? i read that dylan actually went to woody's house to get these songs to record, but woody wasn't home...so years later we have billy bragg and wilco doing them.

I myself detest the music snobs that abound on RP, but saying jazz sucks is simply wrong. Krall is not my cup of tea, and you can argue against Davis (I wouldn't but you can) but to blanketly (is that even a word) say that "jazz sucks" is just wrong. btw, I don't mean to call you a music snob, but I think I might have.

I agree. Tried to upload it, but unfortunately it did not make it.

i second that...it is a really lengthy song, but the sheer emotion behind the lyrics make it glorious. RP needs to play it!
Oh, I can't believe I missed this! What a spectacular song, and even better live. Hope to catch it next time.

Thanks for the input, I have the first volume which has provided many years of enjoyment. I guess I should get this one too.

The lyrics are Woody Guthrie - perhaps you're hearing that in Dylan :-)
