Strange, I've seen that face before
Seen him hanging round my door
Like a hawk stealing for the prey
Like the night waiting for the day

Strange, he shadows me back home
Footsteps echo on the stone
Rainy nights on Haussmann Boulevard
Parisian music drifting from the bars

Tu cherches quoi (What are you looking for?)
A rencontrer la mort? (to meet your death?)
Tu te prends pour qui? (Who do you think you are?)
Toi aussi, tu detestes la vie (You hate life too)

Dance in bars and restaurants
Home with anyone who wants
Strange, he's standing there alone
Staring eyes chill me to the bone

Dans sa chambre (In her room)
Joëlle et sa valise (Joëlle and her suitcase)
Un regard sur ses fringues (a glance at her clothes)
Sur les murs des photos sans regret (on the walls some pictures without regrets)
Sans melo?, la porte est claquee (without melodrama, the door is shut) ?
Joëlle est barre (Joëlle is gone) ?

Grace Jones' version is better
I agree @captanne. Nice version, but it would be great to hear some original Grace Jones on RP @Bill!
Just checked, and it looks like you've only got Walking In The Rain in your library. A couple more like @captanne suggested or Slave To The Rythmn would be good.
How come you folks never play the Grace Jones versions of these songs?  She does an amazing rendition of Libertango and of Pull up to the Bumper and of Love is the Drug.  You only play other covers.  :-\

It's not that this isn't nice - it is.  I just miss the Grace Jones version of anything on RP.
Grace added a certain sharpness to the song. Not that this is bad, just like Grace's version.
It added a nice touch to the movie Frantic as well.
Sounds like one of the songs they play during a Cirque du Soleil act.

I have the Grace Jones version, but on first pass I prefer this one.

"Icemang" was responding to the "blackjacquesshellac" post, which was written in French.

A lovely interpretation of an Astor Piazzolla tango.
ouch!

Add me to the Grace Jones' version is far superior chorus.

It seems to me that I owned a copy of this track, albeit by another, before KMacC, in the early 80's. I've been wrong before, however.

Maybe just not Miss Grace Jones. Her version is the perfect one for driving along the Corniche.

Love Kristy - but really love the version by Grace Jones!

EXCELLENTE interprétation
Her voice and style was so mesmerizing. Such a loss that she died in such a freak accident. RIP Kirsty.
Tish... That's French!
yes, mysterious, sexy, and edgy.

Viva la Grace!

yuk
Classic... very smooth. Our lose of a wonderful artist, Rest in Peace Kristy.
I find this adaptation of Piazzolla's music every bit as good as Grace Jones' version-more classic, less spooky.
She also did a lot of backing vocals on Smiths tunes, and a few other artists in her circle. A very interesting and unique songwriter, but sometimes her records didn't as good a production as needed.
I find this totally lackluster. Grace Jones' version of this was sexy and mysterious and puts this one to shame.

Very sad, but I must ask, would that not be a swimming accident?

Agreed, R.I.P Kirsty
Grace Jones' version remains the pinacle, for me.
Hm.... I expected this song to be sung in French.

Both are dead - maybe that's the connection...Ok bad joke. Would have been cool to see how each of them evolved. Micheal especially.

I still prefere Astor Piazzolla's version!

When I heard this I was thinking that great Grace Jones record, Warm Leatherette. The song that sounds similar is Pars, I believe, not this. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

And that means what? Because she's dead we should cut her some slack? A boring song is boring regardless of the present state of the recording artist.
Anodyne!

Grace Jones really did a great cover... Cold and nightlike, amazing (Jamaican) musicians as well, and a killer production... Of course, there's no accounting for taste... :)
Unmistakenly smooth.
No question about it, it's along way from Croyden to Cozumel. RIP Kirsty......
Oui, Oui!

Mexico in general and Cozumel in particular are very dangerous for divers, from what I understand. I am a diver, and in our little "community" the phrase "diving in Mexico" is associated with careless dive operations and needless accidents. I have heard stories of people left behind by dive operations that treated divers like cattle (took on dozens of divers on a boat with no supervision and no system for making sure that they came back with everyone they went out with). It is sad that she decided to dive there, and sadder still that they have not caught the perpetrator.

Great song, nice atmosphere
Until today I only knew about Grace Jones' version, but this one is pretty slick too. I think I prefer Grace's rough edges, but I will have to hear this one some more before I know for sure.

This is actually by Sharon Shannon featuring Kirsty MacColl and is available on Sharon Shannon's album ' Libertango'. The album incidentally also features two tracks with Sinead O Connor on vocals - a nice album especially if you like Irish trad music. Sharon Shannon rocks!

Whatever. The music is actually very nice, guess I am just not fond of MacColl. Still, checkout the Piazzolla or the Grace Jones versions...
This marks the first time I've ever been turned on by a song.
Nice, but I'd rather hear Piazzolla...
