Lonely boys and your lonely girls,
Here at the end of the lonely world,
You're finding out if there's someone to cry about.

Lonely girls and your lonely boys,
Playing alone with your lonely toys,
Well don't be blue 'cause there's no one to play with you.

Get a grip on yourself you know you should,
I got a grip on myself and it feels good,
Get a grip on yourself take my advice,
I got a grip on myself and it feels nice.

When the lights come on and the party's through,
There are always a few with nobody to do,
Well now don't despair, you'll eventually get there,
And meanwhile all of the lonely ones,
Here's what to do while you wait for the sun to rise above,
The loneliest kind of love.

Get a grip on yourself you know you should,
(get a grip on yourself)
I got a grip on myself and it feels good,
Get a grip on yourself take my advice,
(get a grip on yourself)
I got a grip on myself and it feels nice.

Well it feels nice,
Yeah it feels nice,
Well it feels nice,
Yes it feels nice,
If you're looking for someone to get a grip on you,
First you've gotta get a grip on yourself its true.

Get a grip on yourself you know you should,
(get a grip on yourself)
I got a grip on myself and it feels good,
Get a grip on yourself take my advice,
(get a grip on yourself)
I got a grip on myself and it feels nice.

Well it feels nice,
Yeah it feels nice,
Well it feels nice.

This is nice, but their song "chemistry" is a lot better and really deserves to be on the RP playlist. Great lyrics.
Bill, are you trying to tell us you're lonely in that sound booth?

Masturbation should be like meals, 3 times daily!

Nothing wrong with being icky!

Didn't they do "Across the Great Divide," "Closing Time," and "Chemistry"?

Greasing Wheezer?

I love it!!!!!!!!

nailed it.

Mute. Mute. MUTE!
Bill, hilarious after Satellite Mind!

I heard you flog through the wall...?
oh come on people!  I have trashed a few songs played here  ,  but I like this one .  sounds like bare naked ladies  , it just flows so well ,, I like the simpleness of it  ,,, no big airs or " look at how intellectually moody I can be " crap ,,,,,,,,,,, many of the best songs  are not complicated full of wasted noise or pretense ,,,,,,, so get a grip !  lol
Amy!  River!  Get A GRIP!!

Get a Grip
POSSIBLE THE WORST SONG EVER PLAYED ON RP
Get a grip on yourself SEMISONIC!

Oh come on!  You can just hear that big booming voice, "I touch myself when I think about you.  I gotta tell ya!  I touch myself." {#Roflol}
extremely good advice in this song—-you already listed "Dancin with Myself" right?

How about some Dan Wilson off his solo album. It has 4 or 5 songs that would sound good on RP.
A song that manages to be happy, bouncy, and icky, all at the same time.
Polishing the porpoise

Another in the list of songs about self-gratification!

Get a grip on yourself. This is childish. A 2 from me.
Pure pop pleasure....they could be singing about algebra and it would still sound good.

No, waxing the bishop

Stupid.
Pure pop for wow people.

How about some Dan Wilson from his album last year? Free Life would be a good choice. He does not get much play time. He wrote a lot of the music for the Dixie Chicks last album and then released his own album. So there is life after Semisonic
Why is this the only Semisonic song on the playlist?

OK so we're agreed then its about spanking the monkey

No. It's about tickling the pickle.

Add Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes to the list...

It would be really nice to hear some of Dan Wilson's solo album. There are some really good songs like Free life and Breathless on that album.

Yes. Bill should do a new set: Get a Grip I Touch Myself The Boy With the Arab Strap
Cool! I'm very glad to hear Semisonic on RP. As usual, the band demonstrates a somewhat off-center sense of humor. I like it. More, please.
This would go well with the Divynils' I Touch Myself.
hahaha, he's right, it does feel good oh such innuendo! Scandal you talk.
I really needed this song about now. Thanks!!!
I uploaded "Down in Flames" a while back. It didn't make the cut. I think that one is their finest moment. It rocks really good.

Hey! I've got that LP.
Oh yeah. Add this one to the list.
lol, this entire post entertains me, and that album cover is BAD!
Semisonic had like one radio hit does not make them too "mainstream" for Radio Paradise, so get off your indie high horse. I like them. But wow, I never realized how dirty that album cover is. And I can't believe people are on here mocking Borat AND Freddie Mercury. Shameful! :)
I stand corrected. icky, icky, icky... I guess you have to be of the necessary persuasion. "peterbuilt" indeed.

Speaking of innuendo, the video is also quite fun, and as silly as the song. :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrdZNNG4S8g

Way ahead of you. . .
As it turns out, there are FAR more songs about self-abuse than I would have thought. . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_about_masturbation

Dan Wilson's come a long way - from working at the Walker Art Center to accepting a Grammy with the Dixie Chicks. Hope these guys record again!

"Wiggley Fingers" - Patty Griffin. Probably the best song about masturbation ever written. She rhymes "St. Francis Xavier" with "unspeakable behavior", and she ends the song with a howl that will stand up the hair on your neck. C'mon, Bill - sounds like a great idea for a set.
From: Billy Bragg - St Swithin's Day "With my own hands When i make love to your memory It's not the same I miss the thunder I miss the rain" He almost makes it sound romantic, doesn't he!
I totally second this!!! I've asked Bill to look for some Trip Shakespeare - they were GREAT! And Semisonic's first album was really really strong. bc wrote:
Well, it's ok, but doesn't compare to their first album, and doesn't hold a candle to Trip Shakespeare, which contained 2/3rds of Semisonic. bc

I read that book and really enjoyed it. The writer was the drummer for Semisonic. He does a good job capturing the modern realities of trying to "make it" in the music industry and what it can do to your perspective, your sanity, your soul... I am not, however, a fan at all of this band or their sound...
"I got a grip on myself and it feels nice". This guy needs a girlfriend.
Get a "grip" on yourself? uh, are they talking about what I think they're talking about ??!!
