Well they're not local here, so I'm happy.

better than a wet one...
Just raised the roof rating from a 7 to a 9
Horrible lyrics.

not the greatest- but hey- gotta help out the homeboys from the commonwealth a little...
Feel I have to counterbalance on this one - it's uninteresting predictable pop. Zzz

I'm also with you on this one. Got this album!
This is a really great song outta nowhere!

I likey also!
It's not bad, except the whole "shutcher mouf/raise the roof" part is just so......annoying. costs them 2 points at least.
This is NOT awesome.

Totally agree.
He's a mean mutha- shut yo mouf!
Really like this song a lot. It's my wife's favorite from the band too. It's a great song for driving with the windows down. I'm surprised to see some of the negative comments here- maybe it's the winter blahs talking.

It isn't going to change the world, but this song does change my mood for the better whenever I hear it so I like it. Your mileage may vary. Batteries not included. Void where prohibited.
Call for Luka Bloom...someone's trying to steal your "sound." Actually, once the lead singer does shut up, it goes up a notch or two in quality. But that's not saying much.
Wow. Surprised to see this tune getting the pummeling it's seeing. It's a nice little pop tune, nothing revolutionary, but good nontheless.
Hijole carnal: estos pinches son bien malos, guey!
This guy should take his own advice: "shut your mouth".
I like Carbon Leaf, however, this isn't their best work. I don't hate it though. ...kind of reminds me a bit of the Connells.
I've liked a few of the Carbon Leaf songs I've heard on RP, but this is not one of them.
Seems everyone hates this song... but I don't think it's so bad. Not great, but sounds good as part of a mid-day mix. Of course "Raise the Roof" is exactly what they are NOT doing in this song.
Can you say "blows" , as in, " this blows".
Carbon Leaf is touring small venues with Blues Traveler now. Saw them both last night in Boulder, CO. They are just so great live (not Blues Traveler).
lock up your heart but keep the key within reach. gag.
This sucks gigantic ass
Ah, nap time. Boring...
SHUTcher mouth.

Ditto. Boooooooooring.
Not great but certainly not sucko-barfo. Sound like a group from Minneapolis called Daisy Head Mazy.
C'mon guys lighten up. Its good music to write to. Quiet, cheery, you don't have to drop what you're doing and pay it attention one way or the other. A keeper.
Dunno what's worse. The title or the lyrics. It's a tie - Sucko-barfo.
Kinda Collective Soul (yawn) meets Big Country, with disastrous results. Decent at best.

you know -- i think that's exactly what's giving me the yucks about this song too. they always sound like they're trying too damn hard to be inspirational.

Not sure how you can claim that this is overplayed since CL only gets played about once a day. That's way less than some other artists on here. I'm glad to see that RP has stepped up their airplay of many of CL's songs. Another thing, if you have the ability, go see them live! This is one of those rare bands that is so much better as a live experience. As we have recently seen, there are quite a few "artists" out there who can't really sing in person.
I completely agree about CL being better live. Don''t care much for their recorded stuff, but they blew me away when they performed in Richmond a couple of weeks ago.
Beavis, this is the worst thing I've ever heard.
No.
Not only did we have to listen to this boring song and group, but we had to do it twice in the course of a few hours!!! BOOOOO@!!!!
i'm glad i'm not the only person having a really adverse reaction to this song, and the singing in particular. this song gets more irritating with every listen...
Unsubstantiated, personal, subjective. Of course. But this is definitely one of the top five worst songs I've heard on RP, ever.
Sounds like poorly done Train. Maybe a little repetitive?
Snore. :verysorry:
Ho-hum. Nice bit of flange on the guitar solo bumps it from a 5 to a 6.
They're so damned earnest.
Ya gotta go see the Carbon Leaf/Big Head Todd and the Monsters tour when it comes near you--and it will--they're traveling all over the country in the next two months!

I like this more everytime I hear it (and I hear it quite a bit here). :P
these guys and josh joplin... not good for me.

Dubious distinction? I think so..
The chorus in this song is hurting my head...

Don't like this much. That guitar is annoying.

Can you say "OVER FREAKING PLAYED?" Nice song from a tight band. I like them better without the Celtic overload sound. When you raise a roof, does it go off to college and pay its own rent? I hope so.
Over played? I guess I don't listen to RP that much...'cuz this is the first time I have heard it, other than the other day, when I bought the CD. I mostly listen to atlantabluesky.com, which is were they play CArbonLeaf, but not this perticular song. AND I have NEVER heard a CarbonLeaf song on L.A. radio. And I probably never will. I like the whole CD and I like this song. "Raise the Roof"...party on. pbm
Raise the roof- raises the bar.

I couldn't agree more. RP seems to be on a Carbon Leaf kick lately... everytime I hear an annoying song, and check to see who it is, it seems to be these guys. Enough already! :P

yeah, me too. Right now I'm
I like it, like an uppertempo transformation of REM's "Sweetness Follows", which shares chord progressions and especially instrumentation.
Quite like it.

I could tolerate this song the first time, but everytime thereafter, I've gone to NPR or BBC.
Did these guys OD on Ridalin or something? Their other stuff is so much better...

Wrong on both counts. They're not pretentious and the song is not meant to be "fun" (see canna's on-target analysis). BTW: How does one conclude that a "rock band" whose influences come from Irish pubs and the hills of the Blue Ridge is pretentious?!?

it seems as though they are playing this song looking out into the audience where everyone has their arms above their heads pushing up to the sky and swaying back and forth, except the song sucks and that's not going to happen. I was thinking about buying this album until I heard this song.
Cept, while that actually does happen, that was never the intention - it actually makes the lead singer cringe when the audience does that ;) To me, at least, the song's about literally raising the roof, making impossible things happen - without a roof you can see the stars, and then the sky's the limit and anything goes... but not in a celebratory way, more in an inspirational way. Do you like their other stuff? You might wanna check out Echo Echo (previous studio release ) or 5 Alive ( live 2 disc set ).

I think that's the point. this is an ok song by an ok band. I saw them live, but wasn't impressed. they're ok, but I'm not drawn to thier music at all
As soon as he says "raise the roof", all I can think of is a bad white rapper song. If that one line was different, it would probably sound much better to me.
This is really growing on me nicely

Fear not! It will grow on you - and then some. They've gone further toward mainstream but have maintained their creative sound (albeit a little less Celtic). I got Indian Summer on the day of release and had your same inital reaction. After a couple listens though, I couldn't take the CD out of my player (or get some of the catchy tunes out of my head). Its now my absolute favorite CD and I recommend it to everyone. If you buy online, check out "Life Less Oridnary", "What About Everything", "Gray Sky Eyes", and "Let Your Troubles Roll By". You won't be disappointed :) Bob
