Indulging inaccuracy I'm picking apart my friend Lizzie
Throw another word on me and watch me hurl it back
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me- You're sipping a cup of pity
Aw!
Did I forget to mention I'm the centre of attention
In my universe my pain's my pension
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me-You're sipping a cup of dreams
Yeah!
Soul sloshing-don't shush me
Just listen to me -pretty little kitty in the sky
The bass of my laughter-my gut is the speaker
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Sweet is my surprise!

Self involved security, yet you are such a part of me
And somehow what we do seeps into me, seeps into you
It's subtle-it's creepy knees
It's condescension versus humility
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me- You're sipping a cup of pity
Aw!
Did I forget to mention I'm the centre of attention
In my universe my pain's my pension
I know you! (I swear I do)
You're just like me-You're sipping a cup of dreams
Yeah!
Soul sloshing-don't shush me
Just listen to me -pretty little kitty in the sky
The bass of my laughter-my gut is the speaker
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Sweet is my surprise!

Wonderfully danceable pop with an appropriate song title and group name.
pretty poor IMHO.

Wait a minute... I gave this a 6 some time ago. Must revise! What was I ON?!?!?
It's like Ani Defranco with Erasure or something like that.
yikes...and a 1 for cover art
Incredible dreck. But catchy!

VERY awesome bass line...very clean post-production...
I usually really like Erasure, but I'm not so crazy about the new singer.
I really like her voice. Sort of like BjÞrk except it's good, with some depth and personality. A bit of finesse and strength.
Great afternoon pick-me-up set Bill! Keep it coming!

All is revealed. There has been no gay like happy for many a year. They stole that word all those years ago. But what the hell. Predestined by nature, the word I mean
I like this. Quite a lot. Nice bassline.
I don't hate it, but I don't really like it. Different, but the same.

You mean gay like happy?

Without the vocals this would do fine as the background music for some video game.
I hear Yazz upstairs at erics, or old Erasure, OMD some great retro Synth going on there
ahh, I needed a little happy bebop. And it happens to be a female vocal I can handle.

i still stand by my statement here! this is becoming an indie pop commercial hell!
Great, fresh and funky pop. Love it!
Erasure meets Nelly Fertado?? Sounds great!
The keyboards in this must be Vince Clark... just sounds like him, like an Erasure, old Depeche Mode, Yazz...
Firs time hearing this one and I like it! Half of the appeal is the song's title.
Its probably already been posted, but couldn't bother reading through the 4 pages... Venus Ho-Hum

Here, here. I enjoy reading the diversity of opinion about the diversity of music played on RP. I would only add that not only should we refrain from personal attacks, but also from decending into racial, religous and political feces slinging. There are many other forums on the web for such debate. To me RP is about musical and artistic expression and critique. Rock-on!

There needs to be diversity, but also quality control. There should be a few songs with attitude, and some stylish stuff that we listeners can claim is proof of our ultimate coolness, And there should be some stuff that is perhaps not so iconoclastic, but just plain appealing music that a lot of people can get. The point is that ecelctic radio is not any one of those things - it's all of it. Please relax and let us enjoy this groovy little diddy that maybe doesn't quite beam with the intellectual accumen that you like - from whoever it is that you do like. I for one find that the song carries me from here to there, and doesn't make me wonder if there is something better on another station somewhere. The depth of the negative comments on this particular Venus Hum song up here seem just a smidge over-dramatized. Perhaps a little posturing for effect. While it may not be the best song you heard today, other people have different favorites, and whatever we do let's not make eclectic radio into something smaller.
Less thinking/talking...more listening..

overplayed here.
Trustocity, I'm with Melissa on this. You can sign for yourself, but leave me out. I really like this song, and I'll like it more the next time I hear it. :)
Hey, I agree with the "chill" comments. I've never heard this track before. I've been working intently with RP on for about 1 hr and this song made me sit up, say, I like this, dial in the web site and find out who it is. I may not want to hear this song every day but I like the groove, the texture, the spirit. Thanks
It's funny, back in the day when I was working with Kip and he played some of his music at the store - I hated it. I wondered how far he would go in Nashville trying some sort of Pop/Techno collaboration with a happy-happy, joy-joy sound. I just didn't get it. He had to ride his bike to work, rain or shine, because he had no car. He and Tony put themselves into serious hock to put together their first demo album. I actually started to feel bad for him because day after day, year after year they kept at it never loosing faith that someday they'd make it. Then bang - they did make it, I'm listening to Kip, Tony, and Annie on RP and I couldn't be happier for them. They definitely earned it. Their music sorta reflects their attitude and tenacity. I've become a fan.

I agree with some of what you say. I like this song quite a bit. However, perhaps the mark of a good artistic effort is that it is stirs persistent commentary rather than fading into oblivion. I never got the "getting music" concept. I get opening oneself up to new things, but ultimately either you like it or you don't. The comment section is just that, a comment section. Some are more thoughtful and some are knee-jerk. We can all tell those apart. In a forum like this you have to expect both - but certainly it's ok to express both enjoyment or disdain.
A really fun tune. I like hearing it. That is all.

Reading over these comments I am floored at how many thumbs down there are over this song. Its a happy song, upbeat...with some interesting quirks thrown in-great dance music. At least its a step above the Sky Sweetnam, Lisa Marie, Britney crap we are force fed on regular radio....regular radio? What's that?Radio Paradise is King!!

I dunno...I'm the opposite. for reasons I cannot explain, this song's sounding better to me as time goes on. It's purely meaningless pop/dance pablum, but I can't keep from tapping along with the song. Maybe it's because Annette Strean looks cool in her nerd-chick glasses. I dunno.
This is awful, not only that but very annoying.Does this whole venus hum album sound like this?If it does, nothing should be played off of it ever again.Radioparadise is too good of a station for this.

Luckily there aren't too many tunes I have to mute that play here on RP. This is one that I will certainly mute from now on.
No thanks. Well, I needed to get up and do some things anyway.
this reminds me of the happy happy joy joy episode of ren and stimpy. forced fun.
I completely <3 this song! It's fun and upbeat...like a poppier bjork...good party music or cheer me up at work music!
I like.

This is offensively bad. It's al lot of really childish words and melodies dressed up with a truck load tasteless synthesizers. I think the dictionary definition of trite sums it up quite nicely. "Lacking power to evoke interest through overuse or repetition; hackneyed."
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnot really.

There appear to me two versions of this album out there. One is more electronica, the other more pop. I was hunting around on iTunes and they both came up and they sound different. Anybody confirm this?

AWESOME BAND! (Saw them when they opened for BMG in L.A.) Very good in a Bjork/Yaz/Erasure kinda way...
How, and more importantly, WHY?

Don't despair. This is the weakest cut from an otherwise good album.

Says it all, though one can feel lost in such a nightclub wìth music like this too (or without, for that matter).
 this song was not necessary at all...
before the vocals kick in, sounds a lot like poi dog pondering. i kind of like these vocals better than poi too.

It's as if Bjork found her pop-alter-ego. AS IF!
The techno sets do nothing for me. But I'm sure others do. So enjoy them while I take a break.
Hmmm... needs further analysis before judgment....
I really dig this song.
Yeah!! Oscar is right!! This is like David Bisbal sister!
I saw Venus Hum in NM last year...she has great stage control...not to mention a vocal range that is all over the place. cute as a button when she smiles. my wife didn't like her?? great show!

I hate ABBA. I love this. Please explain this to me.
Kickin' tune. Her voice is great, I find myself transfixed on the tune whenever it comes on. She is hypnotic. I tried to check out the vids on their site, but I could not get any to work. Does anyone know of a source of their vids on-line? BV.

Precisely! This one pulls out all the kitschy stops! ABBA might've sounded like this if they cut an album these days.
VH opened for the Blue guys in DC. Annette and her IT group playing Macs. Her voice soared up, around, and through Warner Theater. Their CD is a permanent fixture in the car where I can sing along at the top of my lungs... imho, she sounds like an amped KD Lang.
not so good.
Bjork meets Depeche Mode (with Vince Clark) and Stock, Aitken & Waterman... still Oh and a bit tubthumping
