I count the tables, she counts the trees
I tell stories, she speaks of everything she sees
I'm in the shade, she's in the blinding light of heaven

A fire raised by paper boats
But now she stands before me opening the buttons of her coat
I find myself wrapped in open arms of heaven

She's giving me everything she owns
Electricity

I hear his work, these idle hands
I turn my back, while she's done everything she can
I've lied awake eaten by the poverty of anger

She's giving me directions home
I don't see a thing
Except this gentle glow of haloes

He told me of the grace I lack
He clipped my wings but now my strength is coming back
I lay my case before the open heart of heaven

She's giving me everything she owns
I don't see a thing
Except this gentle glow of haloes

Brilliant. Would love to hear the live version of this from the "Damage: Live" album.

And more Sylvian any time!

Loving RP, as always!

They did indeed collaborate in the film "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence"  Bowie played one of the leads, and Ryuichi Sakamoto also played a major role in the film and wrote the music for the film.  And he composed the song "Forbidden Colours" which was performed by David Sylvian.  So everything connects in this world.

I agree that I can hear Morphine.

OK, yeah, I can hear some Edwyn Collins.  Good stuff.
Simple Minds, anyone?

I'm guessing that's Fripp making those wonderfully dissonant guitar noises.

and me too
Rather pleased with myself that I recognised this to be David Sylvian. That's all.

Robert Fripp - pure genius.  This could have been the musicians in the recording studio circa 1983 waiting for David Bowie to turn up.

The Producer says from the mixing desk room... "Guys, sorry for the delay...Bowie is on his way but can we have a run through this while we wait... David (Sylvian) can you sing it for us... Robert... let it rip... when you are ready guys... 3-2-1.. take it away...".

This could have been the unofficial bootleg result.

It's kind of surprising that Bowie and Sylvian had never collaborated on anything, especially since they both had worked with Fripp.
Somebody tell me what mix this is? I thought I was a Sylvian completeist!
how about adding “Red Guitar” to the RP playlist Bill? Please!

I agree with the poster below. Way too little DS on here. Of all his choice tracks, this one doesn't even closely represent his oeuvre. Nonetheless, I heard his voice and was drawn to comment on here. I'll take what I can get. Definitely some "Dead Bees On A Cake", or "Secrets Of The Beehive" is long overdue. Some track suggestions:

Krishna Blue
Wanderlust
When Poets Dreamed Of Angels

And don't forget his time with Nine Horses:

Darkest Birds
Snow Borne Sorrow

Just sayin'......

Wanted to re-post......dig Sylvian!
Right on!  I've long wondered why we don't hear more David Sylvian and/or Japan on RP.  Surely good enough, surely not mainstream, and surely can fit in with the other entrees.  Judging from the fact that the likes of Muze and The National can make it onto the rotation, perhaps DS & Fripp are just too far ABOVE the bar to be considered. {#Ask}

One of the greatest!
Wild, how much he sounds like Mark Sandman of Morphine on this track. Blazing hot rock, for sure. Frippin' amazing guitar! Jam, RP!

O yeah! The Snow Borne Sorrow CD, really love that one.
The very first second the music starts I immediately ROBERT FRIPP!

Rain Tree Crow just blows me away - one of my absolute favorite albums for turning off the lights, turning it up, and letting the amazing music and recording quality just flow through...
I wondered why this song isn't on my copy of Everything and Nothing. Oops, I don't have the limited edition, UK only version. In the process of looking, I found the CD A New Dream, David Sylvian and Robert Fripp live in Tokyo, 1993. Great stuff.
Sounds like Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac...
Ditto Dinges! I just melt every time I hear his voice
Good to hear something from Davis Sylvian! Used to be a fan, also of the Japan-period.
Esp. like Brilliant Trees and Secrets of the Beehive
This is Rock! Isn`t it?
This is GOOD

I heard that the original members of Japan were chosen for their cheek bones, rather than any musical ability.

Surely not true in Sylvian's case ...
What? I'd vote for more anything that DS is involved with, how do I do that?

Only two DS tracks and one DS & RF track actually in the library so everyone can suggest and even upload all you want but I think there's a pretty stiff defence to get past if you want to hear more of DS on RP. Me, I'm a fan of DS but I'm also a fan of Bill & Rebecca so I'm cool with whatever gets through and whatever doesn't. Trying to get an upload accepted is like trying to solve a puzzle and I quite enjoy the challenge, miserable failure that I've been at it so far :).

Well it seems that the submissions get voted on by our fellow listeners though perhaps B & R have a final veto? Anyway - I guess David Sylvian just isn't that popular. Though, IMHO, there are easily 10 tracks of his over the years that should be in steady rotation here...

Great to have some Sylvian on the playlist. Absolutely great. Still, why is there no Can at all?

I would have expected to hear Japan on RP. Come on Bill, it's definitely needed on the playlist.

I had no idea that RP had any Sylvian, let alone Japan on rotation... Awesome! So good to hear this. What about some "Secrets of the Beehive" Bill?
What a great voice!
What a terrible set !!
Yeah — what a cool, Frippin' groove, thanks!
Gots to hear me some Dead Bees on a Cake!

Funny!  I checked the track listings to see what Roxy song this was after about a minute....recognize Sylvian and def. Fripp now that another minute has passed!

Good stuff!

Bill Play "Darkness Falls"! from Sylvian and Fripp

Bump!

Great tune Bill! Love David Sylvian, but have not listened to much of this newer material. A solid 9 from me. Thanks! Fripp is definately on this track.

Thx for the history, Bargamon. I was unaware. The first few bars pricked my KCprog ears to look it up. Now I think I hear Levin on stick. what is going on here?

Great stuff!

Work with Fripp on "Damage" might be one the best by either.

Sylvian Did not want to be in a "band" so he rejected Fripps overtures to be in King Crimson.
Damage was with the Crim's band and sounds about right.

Very cool.
I love the cover art. Nice eyebrows.

Added later.... I see others have commented. Good sound, especially with the KC-like guitar work.

David Sylvian, disturbed and content at the same time. He makes it work together quite well!

I have uploaded Nine Horses - Wonderful World from this indeed excellent album, but it's taking ages to reach the playlist.

...wow, this is david sylvian?..
Cool, and better yet, not played into the ground!
This sound is not dead yet??
Yep, like Roxy Music in bad form

God, where's he been all this time? Japan!

Yep, like this all right! Sounds a little Roxy Music ish....
Saw David live last year in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Very good performance.

Yes, it appears that Mr. Fripp put the eyebrows on this dog.
Fripp on guitar?
I hear alot of David Bowie in this, especially from "Low", very electronic. Never heard this guy before, but then I can say that about alot of the stuff that's played here. Hell, I keep coming back so even if this is not a "hit", something is bound to be. Like : Porcupine Tree Nick Drake Elliot Smith Gomez I could go on all night.
will it never end??
