Planet Earth is slowing down
Overseas, underground
Wherever you look around
Lord, take me by the hand
lead me through these desert sands
To the shores of a promised land.

You make me start when you look into my heart
And see me for who I really am.

If you can't change the world. Change yourself.
If you can't change the world. Change yourself.

I didn't care if the sun didn't shine
& the rain didn't fall from the sky
I just cared about myself
From this world to the next
And from the next back to this.
By our actions we are bound.
We're running out of love
running out of hate
running out of space for the human race.
Planet Earth is slowing down.

You make me cry when you look into my eyes.
And see me for who I really am.

If you can't change the world. Change yourself.
If you can't change the world. Change yourself.
And if you can't change yourself....change the world.

I'm in love with the planet I'm standing on
I can't stop
I can't stop thinking of
All the people I've ever loved
All the people I have lost
All the people I'll never know
All the feelings I've never shown.
The world's too big. And life's too short.
To be alone...To be alone.

Some wisdom needs repeating to help us WAKE UP!

It's not Mind Bomb. Still, I like it
Another awesome track from Mr. Johnson, and as pertinent a reminder as ever. His songwriting is fantastic (across the board).

First time hearing this on RP after years; this deserves more air time.

Holy annoying songs Batman! If you see things in the world that you think need changed and are having trouble doing so, then go ahead and give up and conform! What a rediculuous song. At least, this is may take from the chorus. The lyrics are quiet and a bit too mumbly for me to discern. :?

The song doesn't say to conform at all. It's about changing your perspective on the state of the world. As for not understanding the lyrics, uh they're right there for all to read.

....if you can't change the words, take a piss break.... this might be a good time to run to the john.

Maybe it'd be nice if there were more to the lyrics than the same ten words over and over. :headshake:
You aren't listening. There are plenty of lyrics other than the refrain you are referring to.

I agree, maybe it should be "if you can't change the world... CHANGE THE LYRICS"

"and if you can't change yourself, then change your world". Interesting selections from Dusk at RP, I'd think "Slow Emotion Replay" would be a natural. This is a great track with which to end the album, though.
Thank you so much for playing The The. Matt and boys are a rare airplay there days but responsible for some of the greatest music to come out of the 80s. Maybe a little something off Mind Bomb in the future?
I have that disc! "Flesh and Bones" is one of my favorite The The tracks. ScottFromWyoming wrote:
"If you can't change the world, change yourself." The The also appeared, long ago, on an industrial compilation called "If you can't please yourself, you can't please your soul."
