I heard that you were drunk and mean
down at the dairy queen.
there's just enough of you in me,
for me to have this sympathy
and take it in stride.
I know I had mine,
and you were as kind,
I am told.

ain't it funny how we lose one day
and a lifetime slips away.
I'm looking back on us that way-
something I never thought I'd say.
I take it in stride.
I know I had mine,
it was good for a time,
I am told.
it was good for a time,
I am told.

the love you gave was not for free,
but the price was truly fair.
I never felt so glad to be
so well spent and so beyond repair.
I take it in stride.
at least you were mine,
if not for all time,
enough to hold.
or at least, enough for me to hold you.

now take good care that you are true-
you said you found it hard to do.
and find that bit of faith that sets you free
from having everything to prove.
and you take it in stride
and know you got mine,
and it's good for a lifetime or more.
I love you more and more.
hey I love you more and more.

I'm finding there can be great emotional release in unreservedly hating something that has little direct connection with my life. The music of the Indigo Girls - digested in that brief moment before the mute button brings things back into perspective - provides just that kind of relief. Thanks I Girls! I feel better already!

Boy, is this song on the heavy rotation.

This aint' no 10.Sorry there sugar.
I agree not 10...maybe a 7, and that is feeling generous
Drinking at the DQ...much better than the average Indigo Gals song...
One of my favorite Indigo Girls songs of recent vintage
it's steadily going down in my ratings. Sorry.
Not a big Indigo Girls fan here. However, this song is just great. Gets better every time I hear it.
There's so much sweetness and affection generated by this song in the notes below, it can't be all bad. For me, though, it's more than a tad adodyne.

That's YOUR opinion there, sugar.
I'm with gypsy on this one, I gave it a well-deserved 9.

My second favorite Amy song from this CD - it just rocks.
